Delicious and plentiful Prix Fixe meal for restaurants’s 30th anniversary! Appetizer, entree, dessert & beer. Sat outside. Went with a friend who used to play gigs there. Love Uncommon Ground!
We love this place! The food is always fantastic. I’ve tried over 10 different menu items and honestly cannot say which one I like most! The drinks are also delicious and the drink menu is always evolving which makes for a nice surprise each time you visit!
Horrible service. Took forever to get a waiter and then even longer to get drinks and food. Was extremely disappointed and not sure I’ll return.
I've tried this place 3 times now and really want to like it... but something always seems to go askew. At least I can say that I gave it a fair shot!
I already knew the food was GREAT from carry out (during pandemic close down). With seating now available, I was thrilled to see that the service and ambiance is fabulous, too!
Staff was friendly and accommodating but service was slow. Beer was good. However, the red sangria had tasted like plain soda water. The food seemed tasteless to me. Very bland. Not a hint of garlic in anything. Would return for the ambiance and beer but not for food.
Overall we did have a great service. But we did have some issues when it came to our service knowledge of vegan, vegetarian and being gluten free. The chorizo was vegan, but it was not gluten free because of the seitan in it.
Other than that little issue which was resolved. It was a great time!
tl:dr - good food and brews, service lacking
Saw that UG was celebrating their 30th anniversary, so wanted to make a stop (a 'stop' meaning a trip from the office near Sears/Willis Tower to the Lakeview location). Their brews were good - I had Perseverance Anniversary Ale (not to hoppy for an Imperial IPA) and Staff Appreciation Stout (tasty coffee flavor) - as was the food (Smash burger with cheese curds).
Service, sadly, was poor. At the core of the issue was that the staff floated - the bartender who originally took my order was called take care of stocking, the gal who covered for him also had to wait tables, so once my food arrived and was eaten, I was pretty much on my own and even though I wanted desert, I wasn't asked. Had to leave after 45 mins (sat at the bar, had a train home to catch), so showed my CC and was cashed out. I did leave a note on the CC receipt sharing my disappointment
I understand that the staff may be stretched and have to cover multiple spots but there should be some non-negotiables. In addition to the bar, on more than one occasion did I see the check-in spot abandoned even though prospective diners had arrived.
One last nitpick - not a fan of the QR-code to access the menu on a smart device.
Until the service improves, it drags down the experience, so I cannot recommend UG nor will I return
Mac and cheese tasted more like wet noodles with a spot of cheese mixed in
Really good food. The chorizo eggs Bennie was a nice surprise! Friend enjoyed the chilaquis. Draft beers are fun.
I am tempted not to rate this place so highly because I would love it to be my best kept secret but I must share. The food was amazing, the drinks were delicious (highly recommend the bloody mary and the ginger martini) & the ambience was so fun. I love the vegetable plants & herbs growing in the area surrounding the outdoor patio. Highly recommend a reservation though - we saw alot of folks turned away because of the wait! We can't wait to go back!
Uncommon Ground is always a great decision!! We went there right before the cubs game and had an awesome time. The food is always amazing and I tried their beer this weekend as well which was seriously delicious!! Can't wait to go back soon!!
The food was AMAZING and our waitress was really kind and helpful! We sat outside and the patio is very beautiful, great atmosphere overall!
Lovely outdoor seating area, impeccable and very friendly service, tasty food overall.
The espresso drinks were a bit on the thin side, the standard breakfast plate could use a second piece of toast, and the French toast with ham and rosemary cheese, while delicious, needs more than one brussel sprout sprinkled over it.
Food was great, service was friendly and responsive
This was a great place to come for lunch prior to a Cubs game. They have a varied menu and something for everyone. I had the ham and cheese french toast and it was wonderful. We'll be back at some point this season.
The food was fresh and original. High quality ingredients! Best Bloody Mary I’ve ever had!
Took forever to get our food and when it finally arrived an hour later, it was wrong (and our apps didn't even come until much later when we had to ask about it a couple times). Most disappointing was that when we started eating we found bugs in our salad (in the lettuce). It was disgusting! So many bugs!!! They clearly don't even wash their vegetables before preparing the food. I will never go back and do not recommend anyone else risk eating food from such an unsanitary restaurant kitchen.
Horrible night to be dining here. 5:45 reservation 2 adults, 1 child. Told when we sat that kitchen was short staffed. We asked for menus, told to click on QR code - our table was missing the tented prompt. Finally brought a prompt and ordered. We asked 3x for cup w/lid for child and fruit cup. After 1.5 hrs and no meals, asked for bill & dinner to be boxed. Carryout boxes were small, portions pitiful. $15 Caesar salad dressed & soggy. $30 Steak was pre-sliced into small strips (although we saw one served and it was whole) - charged us $6 for a few strawberry slices for child. No manager to be found .. wait staff scurrying & confused. So sad they had no back up support. Didn’t even offer to discount our bill.
We reserved 5:30 so we could have dinner before the Cubs game. It took 45 mins to receive our drinks and about an hour for 2 apps. We never had time to order dinner. It seemed they were short staffed in some areas, which we completely understand, it would have been nice if the waiter let us know of the delay upfront. We might have ordered our food right away. Hoping to try another time.
Even though we had a reservation, it took awhile to get seated. There were lots of open tables but a lack of staff at the door.
Nice patio, good beer selection, organic food with solid taste.
My favorite place to eat!! I recommend highly! And return whenever I can!
I was at uncommon ground during the tornado warning last Saturday and they did an awesome job of keeping us safe and made the experience so positive! We got a free brewery tour while we waited out the storm - awesome staff.
Wonderful neighborhood restaurant with outside tables. The service was great, the food came quickly and it was hot, freshly made and tasty. My son had the mushroom ravioli and I had a kale salad with salmon. Will definitely become a regular customer.
I think maybe this place was having a bad night. There was a cubs game, so I was ready for it to be packed and didn’t mind waiting a bit(our reso was at 630, and we didn’t get seated until 645), I was glad it was busy! Once we were seated, we sat for a good 10 minutes before someone ever came over to us… Again - cubs game.
Everything took a long time. Drinks took like 15 minutes, our apps took like half an hour, and during that half hour, the server never came back to see if we wanted more drinks(we did — and water). Food was really good on the plus side.
Then after our meal, we sat with dirty plates for another 20 minutes before our server asked if we wanted anything else? The whole thing was really confusing. The staff seemed really concerned about cleaning all of the dirty tables rather than sure that the people that were there were having a good experience(a manager was rushing around busing tables, but never came to see why our drinks were empty, our dirty plates were sitting in front of us, no one re-filled water…. —then those tables remained empty all night?
I’m going to chalk this one up to an off night because I’ve had a good experience here before. -or maybe avoid nights where there’s a cubs game? Not sure.
Quieter location in Wrigleyville after a Cubs game with good food- nice vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options at reasonable prices!
Service slow, food all came out at different times
Wife ordered the burger and it was served well done, hard to chew and even cut. Food and drink menus were very limited. Service was great and very efficient but if you’re going to charge a surcharge for Covid to the bill you should at least make sure bathrooms are clean and there’s soap in the dispenser.
Great neighborhood spot with a lot of potential! My only issue is every time I go there the staff treats me as though I’m in trouble -like everything is an inconvenience. If even just one staff member shakes off their attitude it’ll be loads better!
Really impressed by staffing level and attentiveness of the servers.
Went for a friend’s birthday brunch as we all live in the neighborhood. We had coffees to start which were good- nothing noteworthy. My friend ordered the chilaquiles which had okay flavor but it was the biggest mound of shredded chips that instantly became soggy. I ordered the eggs Benedict and it had no flavor, barely any sauce and the eggs were fully cooked through to the point of being hard boiled. The uncommon huevos were the best dish but priced at $15 they didn’t have good value. Overall a pretty disappointing experience and because of the endless list of brunch options in the city I will not be returning.
My boyfriend and I decided to have a spontaneous dinner and it was super hard to find a last minute rez on a Saturday night on the second day the city had opened up after covid restrictions were lifted and we stumbled upon Uncommon Ground. WE FOUND A GEM! The food was amazing, the drinks were awesome. All the employees were soo nice and seemed to be enjoying working. The vibes were great and we will definitely be back to try some of the other delicious foods we saw the servers carrying around. 11/10
Food and cocktails were pretty solid! I would definitely go back for casual drinks with friends and to hang out. Not a place where you go out to dinner to get super exceptional food, but awesome place to have some casual bites. Would definitely go again!
Great service and food! Outdoor covered seating. Very accommodating.
It was great going there for the first time. Definitely going back again
Very friendly staff, sweet potato fries and goat cheese fondue was excellent, and the small salad for $9 and the $3 side salads are actually big salads! We will definitely be coming back.
The food, drinks and service are outstanding! Always a great experience.
The inside is pretty lackluster as far as ambiance. Definitely not a date spot.
