The.place was closed on Jan-3, 2020. Is it out of business? Why did opentable allow to make a reservation? Highly disappointed with the app! Didn’t mean to leave a negative review for the restaurant as we never got to experience it. But there was no other place in the app to let them and other diners know that the place was closed and the app still allowed to make a reservation:(((
Restaurant is closed permanently.
When we got to the restaurant, we found that it has been closed down!!!!!
This restaurant is closed. So sad, we will miss it. But open table continues to make reservations
Worst experience ever in New York City the salad had no dressing the dips were no way Greek and we ordered the souvlakia then after 1 hour they told us they forgot so we said don’t worry about it then gave us more pitta bread then charged us for it the dolmades were straight out of a can yuck I come to New York regularly and will never go back again
Excellent food. Hospitality was fantastic.
Food fairly good
Service very nice
3 in our group had gyro dinner - just fair
Had trio of dips - tzatziki not at all creamy
Big greek salad nice
Baklava - excellent, unusually very thick
Met up with 7 friends here for a quick meal. Food was great as always and they were accommodating for those with a theater show time. Would recommend.
Uncle Nick's is an old standby of ours. We've dined there many times, and brought many friends there, and have always walked out happy. Service is friendly and accommodating, prices are quite reasonable, the atmosphere is comfortable and homey, and the food is delicious! We'll keep coming back for sure!
Got together with another couple to catch up and have a good authentic Greek dinner. I used to eat lunch here about once a month when I worked in the area. After spending an afternoon in the City, we walked to Uncle Nick's for a 7 pm reservation.
We started with the Saganaki-Tiri (flaming cheese appetizer -- a must have!), plus the Inopikilia for the table. My one friend wanted the grilled octopus appetizer, but when we saw that octopus came on the Inopikilia platter, we went for that instead. The platter contained octopus (tiny, tiny pieces -- maybe 8 small tidbits) , sausage, keftedakia (meatballs), tzatziki, tarama, scordalia, pita bread, olives, feta, pepperoncini, tomatoes, and cucumbers. Every item on the platter was delicious, except we didn't quite care for the scordalia. My friend who wanted octopus was very disappointed in the tiny scraps on the platter.
For entrees we had spanakopita (very ordinary), pastitsio (delicious), roast lamb shank special (good, but mostly fat and not much meat), and the seafood combo (delicious) which had shrimp, mussels, calamari and scallops tossed with orzo in a tomato, white wine, garlic, and scallion sauce. Again, as with the octopus on the Inopikilia, my scallops appeared to be about 3 scallops cut into quarters and scattered through the orzo.
We ordered (and drank) two carafes of the red house wine which was fine. For dessert we had two orders of baklava, and one order of the famous rice pudding. The rice pudding lived up to the hype, and the baklava is about 6 inches tall and very, very sweet. One portion is enough for 4 to share. Live and learn.
I would say that only one in our party found the food "okay", and we all agreed that some ingredients (octopus, scallops) were barely present in our food. Our waitress (Evi?) was exceptional, friendly, and attentive even though she was just finishing up two very large parties. I will continue to recommend Uncle Nick's.
Food good...not great. Good service and fairly quiet so good for conversation
Great lunch menu. Lots of options at good value. Freah and authentic.
Firstly, the food was very tasty and the portions were a good size. However the restaurant was 3/4 empty and yet we were at a table opposite the bathroom and although the aroma could have been kitchen waste, it could also have come from the bathroom. Either way there were so many other tables available that I can’t find an excuse for our placement.
When the bill came and I tipped below 18% which I believe is my right, the owner actually bought the check back to me and explained that I had to tip 18% and I can change my original amount. When I explained that I was not aware that I HAD to do so and therefore had no intention to change anything......we ended up arguing.
A good meal turned into an unpleasant experience and I won’t be going back.
Our favorite Greek restaurant. Service and food are phenomenal
Uncle Nick's is always my "go to" spot. Everything I've tried is delicious! I've been going here for years.
Very good authentic Greek food, attentive service.
Food service and ambiance was great!
Always reliably good but nothing that’s awesome.
Second time we've there. The food is outstanding. Our waitress was even more outstanding! The other couple with us got lost and everyone was a little stressed out. She calmed us all down with her humor and patience. We will be back next time we are in NYC!
We were disappointed with both the food and the service. We asked for a fish to be deboned and the waiter said he would do it if he had time. The presentation of the food was boring and there was nothing unique or special about the food and sides. We were really in the mood for Greek food and that is why we chose this restaurant. Uncle Nick's was a complete letdown.
Always a favorite. Every bit as good as Avra, even better, but much better ambience and service.
I’m not totally sure how this restaurant calls itself Greek. The Horitiki salad came with lettuce, the slouvaki sticks were actually chicken kebabs served on a bed of rice (??), and the dips were some sort of garlic and fish mixes.. It should be called possibly Turkish but definitely not Greek. Anyway, I wouldn’t go back. The food wasn’t that good.
What happened to you, Uncle Nick's? We would travel to NYC just for this restaurant in years past. Not anymore after our last experience. First, upon entering, we sensed a change. The place was dingy and empty while surrounding restaurants were packed. The food went from amazing to mediocre. The tomatoes were not ripe, yet it was the middle of summer. Our server was good...fast and attentive, but that was the only positive. The bathroom reminded me of being at a gas station....freaked me out it was nasty. We were so sad and disappointed, and will have to find a new favorite place in Hell's Kitchen. What happened?
Food and service are great! This is a go-to place for dinner in the neighborhood. A++++
Always consistent on food and service. Nice casual place to go before the theatre
Whole fish, red snapper, seasoned and grilled should be enjoyed moist and flavorful. Not tonight, even though the restaurant was half empty. The cook left my entree on the grill too long and it arrived overcooked, very disappointed.
Just not good.
Authentic cuisine. Lovely.
Every time we are in NYC, a stop here is a must. Great service and even better food. Thanks
Excellent food and service. Everyone I went with agreed.
Child friendly greek comfort food. We all enjoyed the lamb kebabs and grilled octopus. Neighborhood gem.
Uncle Nick's serves authentic Greek food at reasonable prices. The portions are plentiful, the food is fresh and delicious. I've been going there for years, anytime I am in the theater district it's my go-to for great food.
Food was excellent- swordfish kabobs were not dried out, four dips appetizer was garlicky - but very tasty!
It got a little noisy, but I suppose that’s a good sign.
Not fancy but good Greek food from a big menu. we tried the 4 spreads as an app; enough for an army! Excellent naan(?) which was refreshed when it ran low. Mains were large portions if a bit overcooked: I don't think they got the timing right with our salad. For NYC, very good value.
I’ve dined at Uncle Nick’s many times and it never disappoints. Delicious, fresh cuisine and hard-working staff. It’s a homey restaurant more than a fancy dining experience, but equally recommended for going out with friends or for a date.
Nice restaurant with good food
I’ve been here a few times before. Always good. This time, not so much. Food was just okay. Service was just okay. Saw waiter a bunch in the beginning but then he barely come over. We couldn’t get extra water, the bill, etc. Also, my husband specifically said he didn’t want cucumbers and they were still served on his plate. Seems like the waiter cared more about not upsetting cook then his customer. Not on my list to come back again soon.
Went there Friday evening for dinner. Had hiritaki salad, saganaki, gyros and Greek chicken. Everything was fresh, delicious, well prepared. We had not been there for a while, and we forgot how good it is. We will return!
Arrived for our reservation. Took a seat. The waiter came over flustered and said that they were closing soon and that if we really needed to order, we could only order from a few items. He then emphasized that they were "closing very soon." Don't take reservations at times when your staff won't serve people. We ended up leaving and going elsewhere.
