Uncle Julio's - Austin
Uncle Julio’s menu also includes Tex-Mex classics such as tacos, enchiladas & tamales all with a selection of sauces made daily. Insider tip: order the tableside guacamole. It’s prepared for you at your table; if you like it spicy kick it up a notch with fresh chopped jalapenos.
Uncle Julio’s has a vast drink selection. Try our fresh margarita of the day, made to order with fresh fruit. If you prefer a frozen drink then the Swirl is definitely the perfect choice. The Swirl is frozen sangria & frozen margarita layered together dating back to 1987.

It was my birthday. Destination for the best fajitas in in the Austin area. Consistently great food, presentation and customer service.
Had a great time celebrating our anniversary!
Excellent waiter!!recommend all waiters and waitresses follow his lead. Really good fajitas and margaritas!
Was a little leery about a chain restaurant but was completely surprised!! Food was top notch as well as service! Can’t wait to visit this restaurant again with more people to try the chocolate piñata!! Do not skip the strawberry margaritas because they were amazing and the honey chipotle chicken fajitas with bacon!
Everything was good. The waitress was very nice and very helpful BUT I was upset because you guys didn’t have the piñata
Fantastic spot for Mexican food in the heart of Austin, come here for great value tasty meals!
Lisa, thank you!
I specifically stated in reservation it was for an anniversary & I had to tell my waitress. Very dissatisfied.
Hello, We apologize we didn't meet your expectations for your anniversary celebration. Your review has been forwarded to the appropriate teams at this time to further address. We look forward to the opportunity to serve you again in the future for an improved experience. Thank you, Uncle Julio's
Food was good, made a big deal about it being 30 minutes before closing but they had that option on the app
Server was great-gave us recommendations on things to do in Austin. Food was hot and came out promptly and tasted great! Chips were light and crispy and just salty enough-salsa was fresh and original.
Was a wonderful evening. Was celebrating 2 birthdays. We had the chocolate pinata for dessert. It was wonderful. All of the food was great,no complaints or disappointments. The only thing that was a little difficult was the parking issue. Had to park on Congress and 3rd in a lot. No real biggie. Would totally recommend to friends and family to go..
If you have enjoyed the Uncle Julio"s in Ft Worth or Dallas you will be disappointed in the Austin location. It is still good but doesn't compare to the first 2 or 3 in Dallas /Ft Worth. In a city [Austin] that has had the BEST Mexican food anywhere until recently Uncle Julio's is ok
Hello Billy, Thank you for your business and loyalty. We appreciate and value comments and concerns. We appreciate you taking the time to bring this to our attention, so we can investigate this and take whatever steps necessary to improve. This is certainly not our standard. We hope to get the opportunity to serve you again with an improved experience you expect from us. Thank you, Uncle Julio's
Food was great. Enjoyed how empty the restaurant was 1 hour prior to closing.
All they want to do is serve you as soon as possible and move on to something else. Server barely showed face again after food arrived. Ambiance for a Thursday evening was dead and the a/c is such that you wish you had a down coat. Old and tired place. Boring too.
Hello JN17, Thank you for coming in. Our goal is to provide an exceptional experience and we are very sorry we missed the mark on your visit. We appreciate and value your feedback. We do hope to get the opportunity to serve you again with a much better outcome. Thank you, Uncle Julio's
Great Food & Great Service. Close to the convention center. Made from Scratch Mexican fare.
Don, thank you!
My wife and I had our first date at Uncle Julio’s in Ft. Worth, TX. It has been our favorite restaurant ever since. Living 4 hours away means it is an overnight trip to eat there. The Austin location is only an hour away - very doable in an evening!! Food was excellent and exactly the same as Ft. Worth. Bernice was amazingly attentive to us and very personable.
Only negative is that the six shrimp appetizer that used to be about $10-$12 is now $25 and all they added was a scoop of pico and guacamole. $25 is entirely too much.
Good fine though took awhile to find the restaurant as it’s tucked as part of the corner of a building. Great margaritas and thin chips!
Hello Meme, We appreciate your review and are glad to hear you enjoyed your drinks and chips this visit. Your feedback has been sent to our team and we hope to serve you again in the future for a 5-star experience. Thank you, Uncle Julio's
The food wasn’t that good, fajitas had no taste. Very little beans service, wasn’t impressed at all. The only good thing was the chocolate piñata.

We do hope to get the opportunity to serve you again with a much better outcome. Thank you, Uncle Julio's
Great place but small food selection.
Wasn’t many people there on a sat which was an alarm. Waitress brought our fajitas for two and leaves without asking if we need anything else. Took another ten min to flag her down and get tortillas that she didn’t bring initially. Had to keep flagging her down for drinks etc. Never once apologized and never asked us once if we needed anything else. Would just drop something off and rush away. The place wasn’t even busy. When we arrived we thought of going to iron cactus. Should have went with our gut feeling. Bad 1st experience
Hello Alex, Thank you for coming in and giving us a try. We regret your first experience was not a memorable one. We appreciate your feedback to develop and enhance the entire experience. Your service concerns will be addressed. We hope you will give us another chance to serve you with an exceptional experience. Thank you, Uncle Julio's
The food was good but not authentic Mexican. The margaritas were fabulous and so was the service.
The food was excellent and the staff were great. They had fun with us and were very accommodating with my child. Thank you!
The service was great and the food was good. It was our first time visiting Uncle Julio’s. Our food arrived quick and was nice and hot. We had a little bit of everything..grilled steak and chicken fajitas..the bacon wrapped shrimp.. we also had the veggie quesadillas..and carnitas tacos..as well as the table side guacamole.
The drinks were good also..they have a great selection of Mexican beers. And the margaritas were great.
Overall it was a great dining experience and we will definitely be back again.
Hello and Welcome! We are thrilled you enjoyed the entire experience.
Went for a late lunch so very quiet. Actually caught them at shift change and they were careful to see we didn’t get missed because of it. Recommend the quesadillas.
Good food but very noisy place. Our waitress disappeared once the food was served. We had to wait 15/20 minutes after our meal was finished for someone to take my CC so I could pay and get out. ... but again, good food.
Hello Christophe, Thank you for your business. We are so sorry you had poor service and we completely understand your frustrations. We greatly appreciate you sharing this input as we are constantly working to improve, and this information is extremely helpful. Please accept our sincere apology for your dissatisfaction. We hope you will return to Uncle Julio’s soon for an improved experience. Thank you, Uncle Julio’s
Stopped in for lunch and this is some of the best Tex-Mex food I've ever had.
Jason, that means so much to us ...thank you!
Wait staff did all they could to stay on top of heavy traffic. Bartender was working short staffed and so was wait staff.
We had reservations for 7 at 5:30 and were surprised when we arrived the restaurant was very empty. We started with the tableside guacamole and 2 orders of queso; delicious!!
My son got the Honey bbq fajitas and they were the hit at the table. Steak and chicken fajitas were good; nothing amazing but good. My mom and daughter were the only two that didn’t get fajitas. They had the enchiladas (one beef and one chicken) and were disappointed about the lack of flavor. They barely ate them. For dessert we did the chocolate piñata and an order of sopapillas. Chocolate piñata is amazing and Dessert for 7 made it a good choice. If we ever come back it will be for apps and dessert. Service was great but because this restaurant is so large I can’t account for if it was really busy. Oh, two of us had cocktails; a Mexican martini (served in a whiskey glass because I was told allll of Their martini glasses were broken) it was good but loses its touch coming in a thick low glass. Pina colada also came in a regular drink glass; disappointing!
The food sounded and looked great but tasted horrible! Overpriced!!!! So disappointed!!! Everything seemed as if was straight out of the package and placed on a plate. The chocolate pinata was nice but fruit was bitter and churros were stale! I paid a high price for disappointment. Never will visit again. 😐
Staff were all nice. Guacamole was excellent. Carne Asda tender juicy and great. Overall great food
We had reservations on a Sunday afternoon at 3:30 because we knew it would not be busy, to celebrate a birthday, which was noted in the reservation. Our server took the order, never refilled our drinks and completely disappeared. We never saw her again. Our food came out completely wrong....we asked to see a manager twice.....A manager never came to the table. We paid the check and left, even though 2 dinners never came out. Needless to say, the birthday was never mentioned....There were only 5 tables seated in the entire restaurant, and it was not busy.
Hello Kosher, Thank you for your review and we apologize to hear that we missed the opportunity to provide you with an experience that exceeded expectations for your celebration. waiter gave us wrong check -- should be more careful -- other than that was very good
Great fajitas - even better chocolate dessert!
We went here for Father's Day after attending Hamilton at Bass Concert Hall just prior. Given the lull in the time (around 5pm) for an early dinner, there was not many people in the restaurant. We were seated easily enough and could carry on a great family conversation. Other tables appeared to be doing similar things, and despite each table being loud in and of itself, I felt we could hear each other at our table just fine.
The food: I had honey chipotle glazed chicken fajitas that were phenomenal. They made a special request for my youngest daughter and the rest of my family also had other fajitas. I will say they did a fabulous job with the meal, and our waiter was quite attentive. Sometimes, during off times, waitstaff can be more lackadaisical, but our waiter was excellent.
The dessert, aka the reason we came: I had never been to Uncle Julio's before, but was told of their chocolate pinata dessert and decided I had to come here for Father's Day (I am a bit of a chocoholic myself). Anyhow, this was by far and away the most fun I have had with a chocolate dessert ever. It really is a pinata-type dessert of a chocolate ball that you get to bash open with a baton. We passed it around the table and all took whacks at it and had a wonderful time. I've never experienced anything like it! It was filled with various fruits and mini churros, and everyone loved it! I cannot recommend it strongly enough to anyone who wants to do something different and celebratory.
Great service, great food, fantastic dessert, and a wonderful time - all at a relatively reasonable price (a little on the higher end, 25pp)
It was my first time at Uncle Julio's I wasn't disappointed! Our waitress was outstanding, very friendly kept our chips, drinks ect full. Food was good except the rice and beans were a little bland everything else was great! We got the chocolate pinata it was fun and delicious
Great food and service...amazing experience! Will definitely come back when we’re in Austin again.
Nice place - busy at Lunchtime. Make sure to get a reservation ahead of time!
Didn’t honor the OT reservation. 45 minute wait just the same as those without a reservation.
Hello, We apologize to hear that your reservation was not honored and we look to address this with our teams quickly. We appreciate your feedback and do hope for the opportunity to serve you again for an improved experience in the future. Thank you, Uncle Julio's
Overall service was awesome I'm not sure what my server's name was I believe Ned, I apologize if its not. He was very nice , attentative and was able to provide the best customer service. Food quality was fair loved my cheese enchiladas but the rice taste is not really as good, the kind of beans I was served with the plate weren't very tasteful I should've asked for refried beans. The place is very elegant and staff was very friendly.
Hello CarlaM, Thank you for your review and we apologize that we did not exceed your full expectations. We have provided this feedback to our teams and the recognition for your server as we are glad to hear he was great. We hope we will get to serve you again for an improved experience that is 5-stars. Thank you, Uncle Julio's
Margarita was a sugary prefab mess
Great food!! Really enjoyed the meal and service. Will definitely be back
The food and drinks were ok.
