Umi Sake House Ratings and Reviews
We did the $40 Omakase. It was all amazing except for one clam based one, but at least we were adventurous! The seat bottoms were the same height as our table which was a little different and made it tough on my bad back. Other than that everything was awesome!
Took my wife here for our Valentine's Day celebration. It was a great meal, service was fast and efficient. We were in the back area and it was cold and very loud so prepare for that. The food was delicious as usual and we had plenty of leftovers for the next day.
Must make reservation in advance. I had a party for 8 and am verified via Opentable. I received a verification text from restaurant 2 days prior- which I responded to. Then I had 2 different verification phone calls from restaurant- apparently they were extremely concerned I was going to stiff them. Anyway, we made it. A little crammed inside, and very loud- but place was nice, service was great, and food was pretty good. Not really traditional sushi, so be aware. Great drinks also. I would go back.
Got there 20 min ahead of my reservation, hostess said too early and had to wait for my reservation time. They actually called my name 10-min prior to my reservation then to tell me they can't seat us because it is still early! Then of course we didn't get seated until 10 mi after reservation. Bad customer service .
The place is Super noisy, food is way too overrated. Our short ribs were half burned so I had to ask them to remake it. Seating is way too weird for dinner as the "table" is coffee table height - always have to bend down to eat. Seats are narrow so bumped every time I get in and out of my sofa.
No I will not return. No way!
Always an excellent option. We usually go for the omakase as well as a roll or two, and it never disappoints. This time there was a special of Greek sea bream, and it was amazing! Melted right in the mouth. Also noticed how much attention they paid to a gluten-free customer next to us--while it's not something I would require, it's great to see that there is care in regards to food allergies and intolerances.
The waiter seemed to be a little annoyed that we were only ordering a little bit of food for happy hour and spilled some of my friend's soup while putting it on the table (and then didn't apologize/acknowledge it). Overall, however, the food was quite good: I had a seattle roll and the poke salad!
Great service! Great sushi! Coming from Vancouver where there’s an abundance of excellent Japanese restaurants, Umi is right up there. Looks to be kid friendly too, which is fantastic. Happy Hour selection is fabulous.!!! Thank you Umi for a great experience. We will definitely go again.
I always love Umi, it and it's sister restaurant Momiji are my favorite sushi restaurants in Seattle. The rolls were excellent as always, as was the service. However, and this was by no means the fault of Umi, there was this table of drunk mid 30s white women seated at the table next to me and my dining partner and they were incredibly loud and obnoxious. So much so that even when shouting, my dining partner and I could not hear each other converse during certain parts of the meal because they were so loud. In hindsight I should have said something, but at the time I figured discretion is the better part of valour. Next time though...
To all the drunk white women out there, here's a pro tip: I know you think what you're talking about is the funniest and most awesome thing ever, but I can guarantee you it's not. Have some consideration for those around you and keep it down.
I loved everything about the place except for one thing which is just me being picky. The chairs in the garden room are quite low and the bench seats are not proportional so it makes conversation a little awkward and you end up either propping yourself on the table or slouching back into the seat.
