About Umi Sake House

Umi Sake House is a unique Japanese cuisine restaurant in the Belltown area of Seattle featuring the highest quality seafood available in the Northwest, a large izakaya-style tapas menu, and boasting a sake list of over 60 imported Japanese bottles. The interior is multi-faceted, with a black slate tiled traditional dining room, a gorgeous 14 person capacity wooden sushi bar, a semi private "tatami" room which holds 12 people, a larger 25 person private dining room, an enclosed "back patio" casual dining room complete with tropical garden, a black concrete liquor bar with custom sake cocktails and fusion traditional cocktails, and a "front porch" casual dining area with a daily extended happy hour from 4-8pm. The variety of atmospheres allows for a different experience with every visit, and the vastness and quality of the menu does the same. For the budding sake enthusiast or the seasoned veteran, the sake menu at Umi is bottle for bottle the best found anywhere outside of Japan!

I enjoyed our experience at Umi. The service was a bit slow. We received our appetizers halfway through our main sushi but overall the food was great.

Pretty loud in there and very busy for a Tuesday night. Took forever to get my drink out, and took a while for food to arrive. Wait staff seemed very busy. Really terrific food, great ambiance, very fun and exciting. Love this place, just don't go if you're looking to get in and get out. It's an experience.

Nice business dinner, although a little loud if you actually need to get down to business. Sake list is legit as is their specials of the day. Been here many time and have had a good experience every time.

Delicious Food packed with flavor! I loved the House spring mix salad! The dressing has a bite. Shrimp and vegetable tempura comes out hot and tastes splendid!

The rolls were overpriced and bland and mushy. The fish was decent. Service was pretty bad. It took 30 min for our last roll to arrive. Our actual server was pleasant and accommodating though.

My girlfriend was visiting Seattle for the weekend and it was good ambience for dinner and catch up conversation. We enjoy Sushi back in NY, so it was a good opportunity to show her good sushi and sake in Seattle.

Umi hardly disappoints with its menu items, however this particular night we were forced to wait over 30 minutes past our reservation time. I was thankful we didn't have plans afterwards, so we were able to wait, but it was still inconvenient.

I booked a "date night" to Umi Sake House through OpenTable but the experience was far from what a "date night" should be. We booked for a 7pm and got there around 6:50pm. The girl at the front said it would be a little after 7 because they were looking for a table for us. So we went to the bar. We went back to the front a little after 7 and the girl told us to have a seat and that our table would be ready soon. If I booked for 7pm, I expect to be seated at 7pm, not have to be sitting around for a table. The girl at the front was obviously stressed at how busy it was that she came off very rude. The rest of the service was very good the whole nigh. When we got seated, our table was against the wall and surrounded by the crowd. It was anything but romantic. If I chose "date night" then I expected to have a table somewhere private not in the center of a crowd. That's why I am rating the experience as "fair." However, our food was amazing. The best sushi I've ever had and well worth the money. I will definitely be back.

Went to Umi with a couple of coworkers before hitting the airport - we had to wait a little for a table, but that's to be expected. The food was all fantastic and the service was excellent. My only complaint is that it was a bit cold in there, and very loud; it was hard to hear our conversations without raising our voices. We ordered five rolls and some sashimi which was plenty of food and broke out to about $40pp which seemed totally reasonable. Overall, would recommend.

We always stop at Umi when we are in Seattle. Our first time was 8 years ago, and we visit Seattle at least every couple of years. The restaurant was not as busy our first time, but it has gotten busier each time we go, and the food never disappoints. They also have a great happy hour!

My girlfriend and I went to Umi Sake House for our anniversary this year. I've been there once before a few years ago and remembered having a nice experience. So, I decided it would be a perfect place for our date, and we were not disappointed. The sushi is fresh and of excellent quality, the happy hour deals are excellent for sashimi and rolls, the sake list is extensive, and our waitress was very helpful in helping us decide between a few items and recommending her favorites. The service was quick enough that we never felt like we were waiting, and paced well enough that we had time to talk and enjoy our food without interruption. The atmosphere is pleasant with interesting decorations and ambiance and a moderate noise level appropriate for the setting.
The Crunchy Seattle Roll, Happy Hour Sashimi plate, Mochi Ice Cream Sampler, and Mango Honey Bavarian Creme come highly recommended. It's not cheap, but it is well worth the money.

This used to be my go to sushi place, but the quality has been slipping each time I go. They really need to reboot their process. And their prices keep going up. Overall I'm moving on to a new place.
