I have been going to UMI since it opened. I live in NY but work in Seattle for the last 18 years. The fish is outstanding. Great atmosphere. Never had a bad meal and it is a "must visit" during any stay in Seattle
The sushi was excellent! Very fresh. And the service was great.
An extensive menu with a large range of sushi and sashimi available. The nabeyaki udon was delicious, although my friend's grilled salmon was a little overdone and dry. It was very loud out in the main dining area with many people coming and going.
Umi is a good sushi restaurant that I believe is overpriced. The food is OK (nothing exceptional) for Seattle. They have a good bar and the ambience is good energy. They should offer a seven days a week early and late happy hour. I have had better sushi in many places throughout the Seattle area but Umi offers late night dining options that many of the others do not. And what is this one piece nigiri pricing all about??? This place is good for those moving up the Sushi value chain but not a place that I would take friends or business associates if I wanted to show them what Seattle has to offer from a sushi perspective.
Crazy expansive selections on both food and beverage menu. Enjoyed the variety and overall food was delish. Place was very loud to hold a conversation and tables way too small for a large group with tons of sushi. Makes it a cramped feeling, not great. They do last call for happy hour 15 minutes in advance- that's a bummer.
Upbeat environment and an amazing, dynamic menu. A favorite!
I love this place, def not my first rodeo BUT damn it’s so loud! Lol I couldn’t hear myself or my husband speaking. That being said, I don’t mind the noise cause everything else is super legit. Food is always good and the service is top tier. Our waiter was too nice and helpful. We were seated right away, but absolutely gotta make a Rez! This is hands down one of my fav spots to dine at in Seattle. But this is my favorite sushi spot for sure. I’m not into fresh dig sushi, my other half hates it, but everything else is ridiculous. I would give this place 9 out of 10 stars for sure.
Love it but just too loud
Really helpful waiter - ordered a couple of different sakes and the obekase (chefs choice sashimi) and a monster roll (goldilocks)
Busy and fairly noisy - not a venue for a romantic tete a tete
Here for a few more days and planning to go back
A little too noisy for conversation. However, the service was excellent and the Sushi was outstanding. This was our first visit and will return!
Meh. I bet we could’ve gotten better sushi elsewhere (at least I hope!). This place is too hyped. The Yelp reviews say this place had the best sushi ever, but I beg to differ. Not sure what kind of sushi everyone else is eating, but this place is way over priced for not-fresh stuff.
Chirashi bowl was very tasty with a good variety. It comes at a premium at 50% higher than other comparable bowls in the area. Higher prices expected in Belltown, Seattle.
Food was amazing, no complains. Serer was very slow to take our order and to check on us, not friendly either.
Out waiter Song was absolutely amazing and made the whole night. Would go back just because of him.
Good food. Very Creative and delicious but nessecery authic sushi.
Umi is a perennial winner. I go there quite often. The food is always great. The service equally good.
We had a great experience at Umi Sake House. I loved the ambiance inside - it's very trendy! The rolls were tasty and very big (10-15 pieces). There was good variety of rolls and kitchen items. We also enjoyed the free edamame appetizer. We ordered 5 rolls between 3 people and were stuffed! Would definitely recommend/return.
The adame tasted like fish. Wasn't cooked right either. The sushi was good, but not great. It used to be a lot better.
So good! The spicy ginger tofu was amazing as was the sushi!
Good sushi. Not the best I’ve ever had, but a great variety. Lots of spicy options on the menu, and solid quality. I would go back for sure.
We weren’t impressed with this place at all. First of all, I made my reservation for a standard seating. We arrived 30 minutes earlier, and transferred to the bar. We ordered our drinks and a appetizer at the bar. 10 minutes later, they sent us a text message saying that our table is ready. We rushed our appetizer and head back to the front. They told us that they can give us a sushi bar seating. We had to accept it because we didn’t want to wait longer since we closed our tap at the bar.
Decoration is old. Restaurant needs an immediate renovation. We sat at the sushi bar. There were 2 sections. One section right in front of where we were sitting, closed the station earlier. They cleaned the sushi bar while we were eating our dinner right in front of them.
Sushis are prepared in rush. Ingredients were not so great. Quality in taste and presentation was missing.
This is probably my favorite place to have sushi because the rolls are huge and delicious. My boyfriend and I also joke that it’s “the place with never ending water” because we have never been able to finish our glass without it being refilled, which is great! I would say the only downside is that it is super noisy so it’s hard to have a conversation.
Our family celebrated a birthday at Umi and had a spectacular time. The food was totally delicious and the service was excellent. We will be back!!
Best sushi in the country
Wonderful experience and great sushi. Ordered chirashi and rolls, with both containing very fresh fish. The rice was absolutely perfect. Great service.
So we had a reservation and they seated us two really quickly. The only problem was they placed us against the back wall with a pillar sticking out the wall pressing against our backs leaving us less space. It was a really small table and we ordered a lot of food. The whole time we looked around is to see if it was the only table they had left but it wasn’t so we didn’t understand why they had sat us there. Towards the end of our meal which lasted over an hour, they finally sat someone else down at the tables we were eyeing. It was hard to enjoy our food when we kept having to try to make room.
We did the $40 Omakase. It was all amazing except for one clam based one, but at least we were adventurous! The seat bottoms were the same height as our table which was a little different and made it tough on my bad back. Other than that everything was awesome!
Umi is always amazing. We have hit them up quite a few times, and often make a point of it while visiting Seattle. My parents were thoroughly impressed.
Good sushi generally. But since sushi rolls had been pre-prepared and left in a cool environment these were not great. Tasty but not freshly made.
Took my wife here for our Valentine's Day celebration. It was a great meal, service was fast and efficient. We were in the back area and it was cold and very loud so prepare for that. The food was delicious as usual and we had plenty of leftovers for the next day.
Crystal was our server. She is one of the BEST servers I’ve had in Seattle. She literally thought of all options for our high needs table: gluten free, vegan, etc ....
Fabulous venue! Absolutely delicious, well worth the pricing!
I brought my sister to dinner for her birthday. The food and service were stellar. It was a little uncomfortable to eat at the low table and it was loud for our taste. That being said, I am SOOOOO coming back!
Very fun and hopping place on a Saturday night. Good food, great service.
Wait staff was fantastic. All of our food was really high quality, great tasting except for the Spider Roll. Something was off about that. Regardless, one of the better sushi restaurants I’ve been to in the US.
Must make reservation in advance. I had a party for 8 and am verified via Opentable. I received a verification text from restaurant 2 days prior- which I responded to. Then I had 2 different verification phone calls from restaurant- apparently they were extremely concerned I was going to stiff them. Anyway, we made it. A little crammed inside, and very loud- but place was nice, service was great, and food was pretty good. Not really traditional sushi, so be aware. Great drinks also. I would go back.
So good, go during happy hour. Paid $20 with a $5 tip for me and a date to share 3 sushi rolls. Amazing sushi for an ever better price.
We were sat promptly, and got our food quickly.
Server was attentive, checked in and refilled water multiple times.
Food was great, the baked trio was delicious.
Great food and cocktails at this spot. The menu is a bit overwhelming but everything was delicious.
