Umi Sake House
We were celebrating our wedding anniversary. Food and service was great. There were other large groups here so it was a bit loud. Besides the noise level overall it was a nice experience.
It is noisy and the chairs are uncomfortable, but I get over those two criticisms as soon as the food arrives. Yummmmm
Sad to say that his was our last visit to Umi's for at least 6 months. Moving to the east coast and will REALLY miss this place! You can be sure that we will be gauging all sushi restaurants with Umi's. The only drawback is that it is LOUD and very hard to carry on a conversation. I only wish there were "quiet corners" where a couple could have a decent conversation without "yelling".
the food at Umi was fantastic and we were surprised how large the rolls were too.
I would recommend this restaurant, but it is pricey. The raw fish was fresh and excellent. The mochi ice cream sampler was old and melted when served to us, the outside mochi was stale and hard (should be soft). Sake was very good. Overall it’s a nice atmosphere and a great place to get together with friends.
Well, I was impressed with the rating and the menu looked good, so gave it a try. We were seated right away, and got drinks in about 10 to 15 minutes - which was promising a good experience. Nice touch is edamame to get entreated while waiting for food. However, when what was supposed to be a tuna tower arrived after 55 min wait - was just rice with few pieces of tuna ??? Proper sushi places would mix it for you, or at least bring some sort of spoon if you want to mix it yourself. None happened. And... Really takes 40 min to prepare? Tuna tower? So the place either can’t handle the load or care none of the patrons. The baked trio was not amazing, but real crab meat made it somewhat appealing. Good Poseidon roll, but not OMG for $23... kinda overpriced. The unagi hand roll pretty much saved from a below 3 feedback.
Maybe it was just a wrong day or time, but I wouldn’t come back.
Reference: I have a meal at a restaurant at least 5 times / week. Sushi probably once a week all across the US.
Great food. A bit over priced for the area but was good. We had a larger party and the mandatory 20 percent gratuity was approved but then a bit frustrating when the service was minimal. We saw our server just to take an order and the check. It was also very very loud. We were celebrating a birthday and she brought a candle. But then when she came the person had gone to the restroom and she dropped it and said ‘I can’t stay’ ...what happened to keeping an eye on your table?
Great service and perfect food
I usually love this place but this last time I arrived for my reservation early and they sent me to the bar... that’s fine... but then the time for my reservation came and went and people who arrived after my friend and me were being seated and no one came to seat us. I had to find the hostess to ASK and she looked annoyed and responded in a rude manner. Then she told us only bar seating was available when I had had a table reserved. Service was also slow... took a long time to just get water. Not happy
Went during happy hour. Great food, atmosphere. Would recommend to friends.
Great food and ambiance and great location
The best sushi place in town great food and service. Love it
Great food. Service was quick an attentive once seated.
We had to wait a while for the host, which was okay, however there were at least 5 employees who walked by the stand and didn’t great the 4 people standing there, even to let everyone know the host would be back shortly. It was easy to feel ignored at that moment, as they carried on with getting their paychecks, and continuing their conversations with one another.
One of the best dining experiences we have had. Service, food, and decor were all exceptional.
Food and service wonderful but my friend and I couldn’t hear each other! This was my third time here and the first time noise was an issue.
Umi Sake House is always consistent and excellent!
The plate had sauce stain on it before we even used it.
I refer people to this place all of the time. The salmon sampler is where it's at!
Excellent food and service.
Waitress was awesome! It was really really loud though. Food was good, service great but ambience too loud. Need sound proofing
Love Umi. Best sushi in Seattle.
Service felt pushy. The table next to us was asked to leave due to reservations even though they made one and were just enjoying their time. Our waiter checked for the cards in the bill multiple times before we got around to putting them in. You could tell they were busy and possibly overbooked
I was told Umi Sake was like Momiji, only better prices. While the menu items may be the same, the quality is not. Everything at Umi Sake was just okay. Being used to Momiji where everything tastes so fresh and the service and ambiance are on point, Umi Sake was a let down. If there is a price difference (I do not have the menus memorized.) then it is not big enough to notice or make a difference in the pocket book. However; there is a distinct difference in service and quality. Go to Momiji.
Great food, but the sound in this place is at a level that I had to almost yell at my date to be able to talk. We left to go somewhere quieter. Would definitely go back if it wasn't so loud :(
Overcoming a bad first impression can be difficult. And the first impression I received at Umi Sake House was not good at all. We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation and were told that the table would not be ready until our reservation time. No problem there. But the table was not ready until ten minutes after our reservation time, the hostess provided us no status updates, and there was no place to sit or lounge — we spent close to 25 minutes standing in a congested entry vestibule. When it was time to be seated, we were led into a huge, clamorous dining room, with an atmosphere more reminiscent of a sports bar than a sushi bar. After being initially led to a table near an especially noisy large party, we were given the opportunity to sit at the sushi bar. We accepted; the noise level there, while still high, was at least manageable.
Our experience improved once food appeared. The establishment uses top-rate fish, and the specials we ordered — a salmon sushi sampler and cooked halibut cheeks — were exceptional and were priced accordingly. Don’t expect bargains here, despite the less than refined ambience. The items we ordered from the regular menu were fine, but less noteworthy. In all, excellent food did not make for an excellent overall dining experienced.
Absolutely amazing. Wonderful service. Great happy hour. I thought I had had good sushi until we dined there. Every bite was sensational. Best ever. Get there early!!
I felt like our server hated that she was having to serve us. Like we were bothering her or something. The food was mediocre at best, but maybe my table all ordered the wrong things. I got the three devils roll and it had this disgusting fake strawberry candy sauce on it that made the whole roll taste like chemicals. Maybe I just got the wrong thing but I probably won’t be back. The fish on the rolls also didn’t taste very high quality or fresh
I would recommend Umi Sake to a young friend :) A bit too club-like for our taste. However! The food and service was very good!
So delicious! My favorite is the Ladybug roll. Yummmm!
The sushi’s rice was little sticky. It should be more firmly.
Lots of food for a good price during happy hour. More like bar food than a high end Japanese restaurant.
Waitress took 1/2 hour to acknowledge us, we arrived at 4:45, the restaurant was very quiet at the time. She came seldom to check on us, once our appetizers then forever to order our entrees, and drinks. She went to the table next to our a million times however. Service was awful. I don’t get it, never had this occur to me at all. Not to mention to write a review. Turn the whole experience and our first time there s real turnoff. Not worth it especially for the quality of food. The service turned us off so badly, we didn’t get to enjoy the food, since it was exhausting just getting her attention to order everything from appetizers to drinks, never. Bummer especially since I was really looking forward to taking my husband out for the evening.
It was a great place to eat Sushi in Seattle.
The happy hour starts a bit late 10 pm and th eenergy vibes are amazing.
I dont like fish but the veggie Sushi and crispy ginger chicken is to die for.
Dont forget to order the Mochi ice cream at the end!
Superb! On par with Nobu and Morimoto.
This restaurant is one of my family's favorites. So, I made reservation for family dinner and requested garden seat at reservation. But, greeter did Not gave us the best seat she has.( So many tables were still empty, but, she gave us darkest spot in the garden room. I asked to server to let us move to better seat, and, we got better spot finally). Greeter(lady) needs more customer service attitude to greeting, welcoming, helping costumers.
It was amazing food sorry,we broke a plate.
Loved this place! Sake, sushi rolls, and Udon soup were all delicious. Our server and the manager were so attentive and knowledgeable and the inside lighting and plants were beautiful! The only thing was is that it was a bit noisy with the music and people’s conversation but we loved the fun upbeat vibe! 10/10 would recommend this place!’
Out with friends
We went for an early dinner and managed to get a pretty good value by ordering a bunch off the Happy Hour menu. Service was fast for most items (except for a seaweed salad that was so delayed we ended up cancelling it). Cool atmosphere and very attentive service. The fish tasted great, although they were inconsistent on spiciness for some of the maki (tuna was over-peppery and salmon had virtually no spice). Don’t go without a reservation; by the time we left, a little after 6pm, there was quite the number of people waiting for a table!
The happy hour service was amazing, I was surprised by the amount of variety included for drinks, appetizers, and rolls.
Went in with five people, ended up eating for ten.
