   I took my son and his wife out for his birthday dinner to Umi. We ordered the seven-course Omikase dinner (it comes with an eighth dessert course). Every single course was a delicious and beautifully presented sashimi or sushi. Enough food, but not too much. We all had a cocktail and a glass of wine or beer with our meals. A fun and enjoyable experience. The service was excellent. My only knock is the price - our total bill for our three people was $460, and that is before adding a $120 tip.

   Every bite was delicious…and that’s saying something for 12 courses! Yum yum YUM!

   Beautifully decorated, intimate setting. This was a very cool restaurant with a high level of service. We got the 11 course Omakase. A few of the dishes felt repetitive but all were well prepared & delicious.

   I think overall the atmosphere and service is great. I chose 11 course options. Although each sashimi dish are served with different sauces, I personally don’t find them surprise me in a good way. All the sashimi are fish dishes and they honestly look very similar to each other. There is definitely room for improvement regarding ingredients, dish order and plate decoration. The dessert is chocolate, which I think is too much for a customer who has had 10 courses already. I would expect something refreshing or lighter. Overall, not bad experience but not a perfect one either.

   My girlfriend and I had an absolutely amazing evening at Umi for my birthday dinner. From start to finish, everything was exceptional—the food, the service, and the overall atmosphere. The staff was attentive without being overbearing, making the experience feel both personal and effortless. The authenticity and elegance of the restaurant created an intimate and refined ambiance, making every moment special. Umi truly delivered a memorable night, and I couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate.

   Great ambience and service, but the food was only good, and the price would let you imagine its excellent. It’s not excellent.

   Delicious food, my only complaint is they basically only have two options to try their menu, and you can’t choose differently if you go as a couple (?). Another table got a variety of desserts that were not in the menu, and were not offered to us either (they looked much better than the ones included in the omakasu). Another thing is, the place needs better ventilation: it was smoky and it even bothered my eyes when we got there, then you get used to it.

   Umi is an elegant yet simple experience, you get what you pay for. With what they offer “omakase 7-11 course meal” and not to mention very well crafted cocktails. It is truly the best way to experience sushi & the creativity that comes along side it. Mr. Shu is hands down the best in all of Pittsburgh. I can’t recommend this experience & place enough.

   11 course Omakase meal was excellent. Great service from Danielle with explanations for each course. Celebrating my daughter’s birthday, Umi provided a nice touch with a card upon arrival and a candle with the dessert course. A delicious and memorable meal in a friendly atmosphere!

    Umi is an amazing experience. Ashley was so great. Her sake recommendations were phenomenal. We were able to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday, and like always, the food was amazing. We are still arguing over which courses were the best. The black cod, the King, and Spanish Mackerel were astounding. Of course, the chef spoiled us with some toro for one of our eleven courses.
