Food was incredible and the staff was great!
From the bartenders to the servers and hostess everybody accommodate our needs !
The omikase and the food is ultra fresh and first class. The merging of taste is wonderful and the balance of things to order and enjoy is top of the line for Japanese restaurants. However, the noise level is so loud every time we have visited that the waitresses need instructions on how to project their voices. Impossible to hear them. It is a 10 noise level out of 10. A suggestion might be to rug part of the place or put some soundproofing on the walls. In spite of superior food, we find it mind-numbing.
fantastic! Try the spicy tuna rice!
From walking into the restaurant until departure, Umi is a great dining experience. This was our 4th time and there has never been a disappointment. Chef Ito not only closely watches over the sushi chefs, but gets in and works alongside them. We were able to get seats at the sushi bar and enjoyed our chats with the chefs while watching their talent in the preparation. Our server knew when we needed something before we asked. She was not intrusive, knew the entire menu and conversed just enough to make the experience even better. The seafood is incredibly fresh and the knife skills bring out the very best in that high quality ingredient. I haven't eaten in every Atlanta sushi restaurant, more than several but not all of them. I cannot imagine any other providing a better dining experience.
The agedashi tofu appetizer was excellent. The 5-fish sashimi plate was very fresh and came quickly at 6 pm on a Sunday when all the tables were full. I would certainly eat here again although the noise level is high.
Incredible food, better service. Especially at the sushi bar. The chefs are the best part of the experience... I left with a huge smile on my face because this place just makes you happy.
Always the best! DELICIOUS!
I wanted to recognize our server shanaya (or close - sorry)
She was great offered terrific recommendations and was very attentive and just plain fun to interact with
Dinner was my daughters birthday and she made it memorable
Never disappoints. Been here several times and it’s become a religion. The reason? - it’s the best tasting, best presented, freshest sushi I’ve ever had. It’s an energetic ambiance with similarly energetic wait staff. Recommendations? - Must have the Nigiri and Lobster Tobanyaki. Waygu beef seared on your table with shishito pepper and onions. Yellow tail jalapeño appetizer with Ponzu!
we loved it, food amazing, waiter paul was outstanding.
My husband and I went on our first date 17 years ago :)
Awesome food the best
The most amazing dining experience in ATL. A MUST FOR FOODIES.
Umi sushi is very good but also very pricey. Definite worthwhile on occasion!
First of all amazing restaurant. This was our 4th visit and we will be back. My only knock is on their cocktails. I had both their Moscow Mule and Paloma and I’ll just say they weren’t to my taste.
Lots of hype. Went to check it out but not interested in going back. Big price tag, impersonal service, but great food. They forgot to bring out our appetizer and we were starving. Appetizer was later brought our free of charge. I’d rather have Oku for the price (food quality and price are similar but Oku’s vibe and service are much more inviting).
I always have had great experience every time I visited this restaurant.
I love the service!! they work as a team servicing their customers and also the ambiance is great as usually people who go to this restaurant ate well- behaved so, the experience S a whole is wonderful. I haven’t found a sushi place that brings you a quality food, service and elegant environment.
First experience and last. There are much better options out there. Server was very good and food was good. Tables were too tight to each other.
Umi is always fantastic to go to! There is never a time I do not want to eat here. It is busy a lot so that is not always possible but it is always worth it.
I was delighted to celebrated my birthday at UMI, 2/26/18. We arrived early/5:30 and stayed 2 hours. Every bite was delicious. This is our third dinner at UMI and it was our best, as we're learning the menu. We each started with a bowl of better than average miso soup. We shared the other items. The avocado salad - 1/2 an avocado with wasabi vinaigrette is a must for us. Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice - The crispy rice added warmth & texture to the spice topped tuna. Chilean Sea Bass YU -AN Yaki - Perfection. My favorite entree so far. The chocolate cake with a scoop of green tea ice-cream, served with 1 lit candle, melted in our mouths and is the best of this kind of volcano cake we have eaten, as it was lighter and less sweet than most restaurants serve. We savored every bite of our eloquent meal, because of the superior taste.
We thoroughly enjoyed the shape of the sake buzz. The first sips were felt, floated us through intimate conversation, drowned out the business chatted beside us as it peaked and then smoothly landed us safely back to our dessert. Very nice...
Open Table emails articles periodically. I read one of their articles about sushi etiquette. We learned that we are to use our fingers to pick up the sushi, to feel the texture and temperature of the rice, which the chef takes pride in preparing. This tid bit of info served us especially well tonight when we enjoyed the spicy tuna crispy rice. We understand... Thanks, Open Table.
The place it very dark so have your phone ready to be able to read the menu. We had the Omakase Miyabe. It was amazing. Service was good too.
Amazing as always!
The food is expensive but good however too pricey . The reservation situation is horrendous. We had reservations for 6 pm for 3 ppl , three weeks out, as we were coming to Atlanta to visit our son and knew he would want to go there . However our flight was late getting in and I called to cancel because there was a huge possibility that we would just miss the reservation and because the reservation required a credit card we were told our card would be charged $60 a person to cancel!! That is $180!!!! I said forget we will bust our back to get there , no changing clothes or going to our hotel first . Honestly it’s a horrible horrible reservation policy and on top of it they don’t allow you to take home doggie bags — why is a mystery! So if you go please don’t forget you made the reservation !!
We love Umi. It’s our favorite for special occasions and anytime. Daniel, our server, made several great recommendations that we loved. I’ve been to Umi many times so it’s nice to be able to try new things that are just as delicious as our usual favorites.
We were a little late to our reservation, and once we were ready to be seated we were advised by the host that we had to be done in 1 hour and 10 min. We were barely seated when the server wanted our order. Once we were told they had no to go boxes for extra food and we could take it in a napkin
Not a good experience for an expense Atlanta restaurant that requires a credit card for a reservation
Excellent food and service!
Phenomenal as usual!! We tried the Omakase for the first time and it was exquisite, we received the best cuts, great first time experience with the Omakase I look forward to more adventuring on this well planned menu.
Good dining for quality sushi in Atlanta a little dark but other than that it’s perfect great service and all !!!!
Umi is always amazing! I have been there Many times and the service is always excellent, the fish spectacular, and the desserts amazing!
If you're looking for a nice place with great ambiance and amazing sushi, Umi is the spot. #ruinsallothersushi
This was my 2nd time dining at Umi, and this was nothing less than an exceptional experience. We had a drink at the bar, and our table reservation was ready on time (maybe 5-10 minutes late), but no real problem with that! It's definitely a special night spot, we were celebrating a promotion - quite noisy, but you adjust to that.
Loved the food and the service was awesome
It was my girlfriend's birthday weekend and she loves sushi and UMI rated very high in Atlanta for sushi lovers, so...sushi surprise for her (along with two friends)!
Overall the food and service was amazing. From the two tuna and one snapper appetizers, to the sushi rolls and lobster dish that was cooked at the table, the food was so very good. All dishes drew rave reviews from the three seafood lovers at my table. But...yes, I know it's a sushi place, but I don't eat seafood, so a few more land-based options would have been welcome (so, like in my situation it's an easier choice to eat there when one person in a couple or group does not like seafood). There were three choices: Wagyu beef tenderloin ($145), Wagyu strip loin ($30/ounce) or chicken teriyaki (a reasonable $21). So it was a steak that costs a fortune or something one could get at any corner Japanese joint. Not for nothing, though, the tenderloin was delicious. We all sampled the chocolate bento box and parfait for dessert. Both were fabulous. The chocolate was divine and the bourbon burnt sugar ice cream in the parfait...just wow!
UMI is not very big. The waiting area is nonexistent and the bar area is tiny and surrounded by tables so there is no place to be while waiting for your table (they ran just a little late with the 9:00 pm Saturday night reservation) without being in other diners' and servers' ways.
It was dark (more than one person was illuminating the menu with their phones) and loud, but fun and tasty, so I would take my sushi-loving girlfriend again (but maybe save $124 and get the chicken next time if nothing else land-based was added to the menu).
Umi is an incredible restaurant and serves some of the best sushi I've ever had. It isn't cheap, but you get an experience you pay for.
The meal was absolutely fantastic! I am not a big sushi person but I came her off a recommendation and for my mom’s Birthday because she loves sushi. This place can make a non-sushi person into a sushi person. The flavor was amazing. The service was also top level. Can’t wait to go back!
The best omakase we’ve had in a while! Paul, our server was amazing. Knowledgeable, attentive and courteous! We enjoyed every morsel. Both my husband and I had the miyabi omakase but instead of just serving us identical appetizers, they gave us two variations which allowed us to taste a greater variety. They do d the same for the hot entree and actually plated half and half on each plate! Now that is service! We will definitely be back!!!
