Fantastic Friday night dinner.
Best sushi in ATL! We had dinner with friends from out of town (LA, Chicago, Baltimore) and they loved it!
The only thing I didn't like was how the waiter told us we couldn't adjust the meal. Some ingredients I wasn't too fond of but everything was great.
The best ever.
Great food! Very busy, so reservations are a must. I love good sushi and had the Chef’s choice Nigiri. I’ll definitely be going back!!!
Amazing. The best sushi I have personally ever had. We opted for the premium chef tasting menu and were not disappointed in the least. I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite dish there were so many we enjoyed.
The food is mind blowing. Great cocktails. Eric, John, Daniel, and Dixon are terrific as is the entire staff!
Great service staff and wonderful hospitality and chef staff. Top quality product, however the menu over reaches.... not a big fan of truffle oil and other accoutrements on such a quality product. Feels like I’m eating sushi from 2005, but it’s probably due to the Buckhead demo/palates..🙄
If looking for anything exotic or creative, you won’t find it here due to safe, right down the middle sushi, but executed to the highest degree.
You won’t mistake this place for NYC, San Fran or Tokyo sushi.
too noisy and slow
This is my favorite restaurant. Great food, service and ambiance. The quality of the food is wonderful.
Love, love, love Umi. Food is amazing and atmosphere is upscale but very comfortable. Michelle is the best server!! Our favorite spot for special occasions.
Umi was amazing! Food was great! Service was great.
The tables were a little too close together. Felt like I was back in LA! Other than that, it was fantastic!!!
I will begin by saying I’ve worked in this industry, and actually worked on the opening of Umi. I worked in PR/Marketing with some of the highest profile clients in Atlanta including James Beard award winning chefs, restaurants and food festivals, so I’ll say I know food better than most. With that out of the way:
I went to Umi for a celebration dinner and arrived wearing a long sleeve chambray button down shirt, pressed shorts and loafers. This reservation was made weeks in advance. Upon entering, I was turned away at the door and told there is a “no shorts” policy. At this point, I read the dress code which also noted no sneakers, hats, or athletic wear. Wearing shorts was my oversight, so I went home, changed and came back.
About half way through our dinner, a table was seated next to us and one male was wearing a graphic tee, black shorts and black nike tennis shoes. The other man in this party was wearing a red tee shirt, black jeans and white tennis shoes. You can imagine my surprise 1) that these people were seated when dressed this way, and 2) at the table next to me, no less.
A short while later, a group of 6 arrived and sat behind us wearing cut off overalls and tennis shoes, athletic pullovers and... face stickers and temporary tattoos.
Upon leaving, we asked one of the hosts if the dress code changes after a certain time and she replied that it does not. We reiterated being turned away, driving home, changing into jeans, coming back and being seated — next to people wearing tee shirts, shorts, tennis shoes and ripped overalls. The hostess insisted that this was not true.
Missing the dress code initially was my fault, which is why I thanked them, went home, changed and came back. The rest of the evening left much to be desired while sitting around people who were dressed much more casually than I was after being so inconvenienced. As delicious as the food is, I will not be back to Umi and no longer recommend it.
The entire team at Umi is so professional and warm to all customers. Michelle is the best server and makes each visit better than the next. If I could go here every night I would
Best sushi in town. Service is excellent and the attention to detail in every dish does go unnoticed.
The food is pretty good but it's really, really crowded and noisy. The tables are squished together. And the amount paid is not reflected in the food itself - pretty ordinary sushi. I think it's all the hype that has this place as busy as it is. I won't go back.
I would recommend it only because there isn’t a lot of good japanese restaurants in Atlanta compared to nyc or la. I can’t say I was impressed this time I went, I think I was more impressed when I first went a few years ago, when it was fairly new. I would say if you do not know a great deal about authentic japanese, it’s a good spot. But once you do, it’s just ok.
The food and service was excellent.
The fish quality and available selections were excellent. The specialty nigiri preparations were also excellent. The wasabi was applied sloppily and heavily which was disappointing. The pickled ginger was truly terrible. The atmosphere was typical Atlanta-chic noisy which I find annoying - particularly at a Japanese restaurant. I would definitely return for the fish, tolerating the noise, expecting that the wasabi situation was just one chef having a bad night, and (sadly) never letting my palate be cleansed. It would be nice if they added finger towels for nigiri eaters.
Wonderful dinner at Umi - the best sushi we have had in the US!
Nick was extremely knowledgeable and personable. He remembered our likes and made new suggestions that were on point.
Umi is the best sushi restaurant in the world. Period. Service, quality of food, creativity of chef Ito and his team is astounding. In a word: Excellence.
Always amazing. Never disappointed. Service and staff awesome. Personalized service.
Our waiter Dixon, is perhaps the best waiter I’ve had anywhere in the world. He was Focused on the delighting his customers at every turn.just flat out fabulous service. I highly recommend Umi and try to get Dixon as your waiter if you can.
Always the best. We love UMI. If we are in Atlanta we will be at UMI. The best sushi in the south! Love it!
The food and service were great once we were seated. However, when we showed up for our 9pm reservation, we were not seated til after 9:30pm. It was a ridiculous amount of time to have to wait for our reserved table and took away from the overall experience.
AMAZING! We went to celebrate my birthday and everything was great. The service was outstanding, the food was delicious, the ambience was super. We will definitely be back!
Ordered two Miyabi Omakase. Too salty and not fresh. Restaurant is too dark and very noisy. Overpriced and waste money.
Never disappoints. My favorite restaurant in Atlanta.
Absolutely ONE. OF. THE. BEST!
This is the best sushi you can eat (potentially anywhere). Get the Sanmori & the Japanese Snapper app!
Slow getting in. Had a reservation set for 9:30pm and wasn't seated until about 10:00pm, but after that the service was great and the food was fantastic. The restaurant is dark and calm and very pleasing to be inside of.
Paul is the best server ever. All the appetizers were ordered were top notch. Ive been missing out for too long.
Overall, great spot for date night and if you like seafood. Not many veggie options. Had a reservation for 8.30pm, but did not get our table till 8:50pm. Great ambience and service.
Excellent service and food.
Great food and service. Wine and cocktails are also amazing!!
Deanna was excellent! Loved the Hangar martinis too.
Elegant service, exquisite food at a hot spot in town for anyone with passion for uniquely sophisticated food
The food was exceptional and the service was amazing. Try the special wagyu nigiri, the lobster box roll and the shrimp tempura. So delightful...ideal for special occasions.
My all time favorite restaraunt in Atlanta!! I could eat here every night of the week. Michelle is an amazing server and Taka and the hostesses are so warm and professional. Thank you for helping me always have an amazing time
