UMI Ratings and Reviews
This was my 2nd time dining at Umi, and this was nothing less than an exceptional experience. We had a drink at the bar, and our table reservation was ready on time (maybe 5-10 minutes late), but no real problem with that! It's definitely a special night spot, we were celebrating a promotion - quite noisy, but you adjust to that.
It was my girlfriend's birthday weekend and she loves sushi and UMI rated very high in Atlanta for sushi lovers, so...sushi surprise for her (along with two friends)!
Overall the food and service was amazing. From the two tuna and one snapper appetizers, to the sushi rolls and lobster dish that was cooked at the table, the food was so very good. All dishes drew rave reviews from the three seafood lovers at my table. But...yes, I know it's a sushi place, but I don't eat seafood, so a few more land-based options would have been welcome (so, like in my situation it's an easier choice to eat there when one person in a couple or group does not like seafood). There were three choices: Wagyu beef tenderloin ($145), Wagyu strip loin ($30/ounce) or chicken teriyaki (a reasonable $21). So it was a steak that costs a fortune or something one could get at any corner Japanese joint. Not for nothing, though, the tenderloin was delicious. We all sampled the chocolate bento box and parfait for dessert. Both were fabulous. The chocolate was divine and the bourbon burnt sugar ice cream in the parfait...just wow!
UMI is not very big. The waiting area is nonexistent and the bar area is tiny and surrounded by tables so there is no place to be while waiting for your table (they ran just a little late with the 9:00 pm Saturday night reservation) without being in other diners' and servers' ways.
It was dark (more than one person was illuminating the menu with their phones) and loud, but fun and tasty, so I would take my sushi-loving girlfriend again (but maybe save $124 and get the chicken next time if nothing else land-based was added to the menu).
The meal was absolutely fantastic! I am not a big sushi person but I came her off a recommendation and for my mom’s Birthday because she loves sushi. This place can make a non-sushi person into a sushi person. The flavor was amazing. The service was also top level. Can’t wait to go back!
The best omakase we’ve had in a while! Paul, our server was amazing. Knowledgeable, attentive and courteous! We enjoyed every morsel. Both my husband and I had the miyabi omakase but instead of just serving us identical appetizers, they gave us two variations which allowed us to taste a greater variety. They do d the same for the hot entree and actually plated half and half on each plate! Now that is service! We will definitely be back!!!
While the food and the servers are great at Umi, I was extremely disappointed to find my reservation had been given up after there was a crash on the highway and I was at a standstill, making me almost 20 minutes late for my reservation. The grace period is 15 minutes, and my birthday was ruined because I no longer had anywhere to eat.
My first time at Umi was awesome. My friend and I sat at the bar and our server, Liz, was professional, knowledgable, and timely. Her service was wonderful, and the food was incredible. I will definitely be back at some point, although it's outside my price range for everyday dining.
The food is delicious! I haven’t had a single thing I didn’t like. It is a little dark so you may have trouble reading the menu if you need bright light. The staff is very courteous and attentive. We usually get:
Sake Aoli -favorite
We go out several times a week for dinner. Our dinner was not a special occasion.. We felt we were rushed the entire night. We purchased several bottles of wine and champagne and still were rushed. We will not come back. We went to the St. Regis afterward and had a great night at their bar. No rush there...and it was crowded!
First the good, food was amazing, our server was very nice and super accommodating! The water glasses are small but the support staff was on it! The not so good, I hate having to hold on to my menu and waiting too long to order the main course. A pet peeve perhaps? The only other thing I’d like to mention is refills from the bar were slow.
It was great. Waiters got a little confused about plates and kept putting them down and picking them up. Water guys was attentive but a little too determined. Really loved our waitress but her apologizing to not rush us made us feel rushed lol. Green tea icecream is amazing. Ambiance is amazing. Food was good too.
Handling of reservations poor and very little room at the bar for waiting. Drinks (Manhattan) was properly done. Server was very nice but several mistakes despite a Comp diminished the experience. Kobe beef (3oz) was left cooking and presentation was awful disrespecting the delicacy... stereo can on a bowl with an ill fitting ceramic cook surface... bottom line if you going to demand these kind of prices everything ought to be handled with precision ... it wasn’t though we ultimately had a nice time we walked away thinking it wasn’t worth it ... had the greeting and service and presentation all been right we would have said the opposite expensive but well worth it...
