UMI Ratings and Reviews
Underwhelmed. Service, atmosphere, desserts, and drinks were excellent. The food was just good. The two of us ordered multiple hot plates to sample them. Each one was just OK. The reputation and the menu had me excited but the Tuna Foie Gras let me down. The baked lobster and black cod were good but not excellent. Its the best I have had in Atlanta, but that really isn't saying much as this city has been underserved in this genre for a long time.
A frequent visitor here, and it never disappoints. This is great for any occasion or just to have a great culinary experience. I have to say that the service is fantastic. The wait staff is super attentive and helpful. It’s a vibrant scene, with small intimate tables or larger ones to accommodate larger groups. It’s a must do for anyone in the buckhead area and worth the drive if you are further out.
The service at the bar was outstanding. The cocktails were perfect. Personal favorite was the Hibiki cocktail. Hector provided the best service we've received in years. Everything, even down to the server assistants were on point, and their menu knowledge and presentation could not have been better. Mind blowing dinner that did not miss a single beat from beginning to end. A variety of dining experiences could be excellent here, but the Omakase is a guaranteed perfect culinary experience.
Was told Umi is said to be top 10 sushi restaurants in the US and coming from NYC my expectations were soaringly high and not all the way met, however Umi is unarguably excellent. The Kobe beef nigiri was amazing. Their specialty nigiri was impressive. Kate Hudson was eating behind us casually. Great experience! Will be back.
This was my second visit to UMI . My daughters favorite place , her birthday, so we ordered her favs. The lobster appetizer on the hot skillet sizzling in butter will melt in your mouth! It’s more tender and delicious than any I have ever tasted . We also loved the fried lobster rolls . And , there is an amazing chocolate ball filled with fruit and cream that you must order when you make a reservation if you want one . You bust the ball open and the fruit spills out . Fun and Fantastic! The food is AmaIng ! The atmosphere however is VERY NOISY , or it has been the 2 times I’ve been there . Also , the seating is very tight , tables very close together. Perhaps that’s why it seems so loud . That is the only con for me . The Amazingly Delishous food however makes it so worth it !!!
Great food. However, it takes at least 30-45 minutes to get seated from when you arrive and there are no stools or chairs to accommodate while you wait. So essentially there’s no where to sit and the bar is tight, and the tables by the bar are also in the way and can’t sit there. There shouldn’t be reservations if they can’t meet the time slots. Would not come back any time soon, I just get my sushi fix and leave. I’d rather go to MF Sushi in Inman Park where they are prompt and have equally great food!
The food and service was ridiculously GREAT! I've eaten sushi in Atlanta, New York, Las Vegas and LA regularly and this is world class. Always fresh, always fun. Otoro caviar is a must try. I've eaten there since they first opened and they still surprise me with how good they are today, years later. Thanks to chef Ito for the fantastic meal we had tonight!! Took two new sushi eaters there tonight and they can not wait to go back. So good! Just sooo good ;-)
Umi was everything we had hoped it would be, and beyond. Friends recommended this restaurant, as well as a couple of fantastic dishes, and we could not have been more pleased.
Reservations here are highly sought after, so when we arrived nearly an hour late because we were stuck in parade traffic in an Uber, we expected a chilly reception. We were wrong - we were warmly greeted, assured it hadn't been a problem and shown to a reserved table in the bar area for our dinner. The food was exceptional, the whole experience was very special, and we hope to be back when we return to Atlanta.
So I heard many good things and I guess this is a highly rated hotspot in Atlanta. Simply put, I wasn't impressed. Service is a bit slow, food was good but not crazy good. Place is very loud and dark to the point that I wonder what they are hiding. I mean really dark, like need a flashlight dark! My expectation was romantic high end place to take the wife on her birthday. It is not that.... more of a see or be seen hotspot.
I am a true sushi fan and this was by far my best sushi dining experience. Our waiter was phenomenal (Paul). Additional support staff were excellent. We tried a House Speciality Lobster Roll, American Roll (spicy tuna), miso soup, cucumber seaweed salad and chocolate bento box. This place was not just "trendy", it was modern and absolutely delicious. I am very pleased with my experience overall.
Umi used to be ‘thee’ sushi spot in Buckhead. Over time their food quality diminished, their staff became rude and snobby, and the menu never changes. Their Kobe beef roll used to be absolutely incredible. Now, it literally tastes like they put a piece of Kroger steak on top of a sushi roll. Sad decline of a restaurant I used to frequent and highly recommend. I won’t be returning any time soon.
