Food was excellent, service spotty.
Lovely staff, excellent food, wonderful restaurant
Love, love, love Umberto's of New Hyde Park. The bread, that is made there, is delicious. The house dressing for the salad is wonderful. Pick any entree on the menu; you cannot go wrong.
We were there on Mother's Day, so it was crowded (still spaced). We needed to sit downstairs because my mom could not do the stairs. Unfortunately, currently with the construction not complete, it was hard to hear ourselves talk.
Can't wait to see the place when it is done with the new expansion.
Everything was spicy! I asked if the sausage in the cavatelli was spicy and the waiter said no but he failed to mention that the brocolli rabe and the rest of the plate had so much spice I couldn't really eat it. My kids said their dishes of gnocchi were also very spicy and the calamari appetizer was rubbery. The bread was hard. I also order escarole and white beans and even that had so much hot pepper that I couldn't eat it and my husband thought it was also overly salty. The waiter was very nice but in general food and drinks took a really long time to come out. We had heard so many good things BUT we were very disappointed!!!
We arrived on time for our reservation and we were told they did not have it. When presented with our email confirmation, they still refused to seat us. Restaurant was very overcrowded. Very disappointed
Food was great tasting but we waited over an hour and half for it.
We went for my sisters birthday and the dinner was excellent. The floor manager, hostess and waiter were fantastic. I love this place and would recommend it to everyone. We will definitely be coming back soon❤️
Very good food, service a tad forgetful, but we’re all getting back into the flow of things with this slow reopening.
It was good, just very loud in the tent outside! Couldn’t really hear too well. If I were to make another reservation, I would opt for inside dining. Good food, lots of leftovers
The soup was cold and didn’t have much flavor. The service was terrible. The Mangement was very nice. The pizza was good.
The food never disappoints! Our only complaint would be that we waited 30mins past our reservation to be seated and it took another 30mins to get a waiter to our table. We didn’t have any water, bread or anyone take a drink order. So that was disappointing. The staff was pleasant and apologetic.
went for our mom's 92nd birthday. food was fantastic!
Umberto's is one of my favorite places to go to. the food is always amazing and fres
Have eaten here many times, but this time was very disappointing. Service was very poor. It got to a point where we almost walked out. And after the poor quality of the dinner I wish we had. Very expensive for a weeknight dinner for 2. When we made the reservation they asked if it was a special occasion and it was a birthday dinner. No mention of it to us and no complimentary dessert or beverage. So why inquire?
Food was excellent as usual. Restaurant was up to covid requirements which made us feel very safe.
I was so happy be able to enjoy my favorite Italian restaurant of many decades again and feel safe while eating the best Italian food on Long Island.
Food was ok not that great.
Awesome meal! Felt very very comfortable during covid. They redid there dining room and put up plexiglass in between each table. We loved being out and enjoying a great meal!
Great food, drinks were awesome. Always a good time.
Everything was wonderful. Food and service was excellent.
Food was really good. Service was good but slow. Disappointed we had to sit in the pizzeria part of the restaurant. We like this Restaurant and hope it will be better next time.
There was a party in the back room at midday so the noise-level was pretty high. It detracted a bit from the enjoyment. We went or lunch so we did not explore the full menu. But everything we had was very good.
Very good food. Excellent service. Accommodating staff. Friendly setting.
Hanging in there during covid
Very pleasant experience from the moment I walked in to meet my colleague at 12:30 with our reservation. I was seated in the party room and service was excellent. Server was attentive, very pleasant and friendly and did everything to ensure our lunch was exactly as ordered. My colleague ordered fried calamari and she said it was great, not rubbery and just perfect. I ordered eggplant rollatini and it was creamy and flavorful.
I recommend Umberto's of New Hyde Park and have eater here many times over the years for lunch and dinner and take out and its always consistently GOOD.
It’s been too long. We were in the neighborhood and were able to enjoy a very delicious lunch. They’re undergoing renovations and things are a little out of whack but still well worth it. I’m sure we’ll be back soon.
Delicious as usual! Perfect pizza! I over heard someone at a near by table (more than 6feet) ask a companion, “What do you like on your pizza.” I wanted to interrupt and say, “why would you ruin perfection with an unnecessary topping. You want meatball, order a meatball. Don’t destroy the deliciousness of Unbertos pizza with a meatball!”
But I didn’t interrupt. I savored my pizza and minded my own business.
Always excellent food it is our favorite restaurant, my complements to the chef, and all personal 👌👌👌👌
If you don’t want to be exposed to Covid, do not go here. Tables too close, too crowded, hand sanitizer empty. As we were dining, we notified people walking back and forth from a party room with no masks on. When we informed the staff, they were aware of it and concerned. We spoke to a manager, yet people walked around without masks and nothing was said to them. Shame on them. Excellent food but not worth dying for.
Worst day to head out and eat with grandparents on Valentines day. The restaurant is very good but had a party going on and couldn't hear each other speak.
Birthday! Thank you so much!
Baked clams are to die for. So delicious. I had eggplant parmigiana which was delish. My husband had chicken parmigiana (his favorite) Wait staff were very friendly. We went early to avoid a crowd
They have gotten too big and as a result have lost all that they achieved over the long history. We arrived at 6:07 for a 6PM reservation and were put in what looked like a catering hall that only had two other tables with large groups, we were just two. With Covid-19 we felt better a cold empty room than in the overcrowded dining rooms. That was until final at 7:45, an hour after we had finished our appetizer I had to get up from the table and find the manager, and only then did we get served, with in two minutes. How they could do that in under 120 seconds but could not get it done prior was beyond me. By the time we were served the room was about 60% full but two other tables walked out and the one table, with about 12 people, that was already seated in the vast hall when we got there had to call the manager over to complain that he has been trying to get his check for nearly a half hour. This was the first time since Covid that I gave no tip where I would normally give 25 to 30% in these times, however e did slip the busboy $5 as he did an excellent job keeping the water glasses full. The ultimate insult was when we were aggressively pushing to get our check so we could leave and the waiter tossed a plate with a sliced up tartufo on the table with two spoons as an offering and walk away in a huff like we did something to get him in trouble, When I called over the busboy and told him to give it to the kids at the next table and please have them bring me my check, the waiter than cam over and put the check on the table walked away without getting my card and mumbled something like “ Guess the tartufo isn’t good enough either?” In the end I had to walk over to a different waiter who was at the register near the bar and ask him to run my card.
What a loss this will be if the owners don’t fix management that are the cause of the poor performance. I hope they get their act together.
It was OK the restaurant is undergoing renovations, had a reservation on the open table was seated the first table inside the door not good , people arriving after with no reservations seem to be seated in a more desirable table. Go figure ???
We had a great dinner and the food, as always, was delicious. The service was outstanding and the staff were all welcoming, friendly and professional.
I had made a reservation at 7:45 for outdoor seating. When I arrived they said none was available after I had called and confirmed as well. I waited upwards of 25 minutes and my reservation was not honored, not only that, but people walked in after me and were seated before me. I will not be returning to this restaurant and am highly disappointed by the service provided.
We had hot antipasto which was good. The entree was barely eatable which was chicken Parmesan with Vodka Sauce. In addition the restaurant is being renovated and was like sitting in the middle of a construction site. I will not return to this restaurant.
Best Sicilian slice you will have in New York. Friendly staff and great food. Have been coming here for 20y and look forward to it every time.
Been going to Umberto's since he just had a pizzeria in the 70's. When I was in the military stationed in Europe, my first stop on the way home from JFK was always Umberto's for a Sicilian pie. I and everyone I've brought in have always had a great meal.
I love this place, I have been coming here all of my life, the food and the service is fantastic. My only complaint, and I seriously hope it is fixed during the remodel, is the fact that there isn’t a proper elevator to get up to second floor dining. I went here with three elderly people and we sat on first floor dining area. The problem with that is when it is cold outside, every time someone opens the front door the diners get a blast of cold air- not god for elderly diners. As I said, hopefully this will be resolved.
