Umami Umami Ratings and Reviews
Umami Umami is a local gem. Very authentic fresh Korean and sushi. The sushi is outstanding- extremely fresh and beautifully presented, with a wide variety of options. The Korean dishes, including spicy bolgolgi and dolsot bimbimbap are delicious, and particularly good on a cold winter night. Everyone is very friendly, and Eric, our waiter was always smiling and efficient.
Slow would be an understatement. We were one of three seated tables and waited over 15 minutes for drinks, over 45 minutes for apps and 1 1/2 hours for dinner. We were celebrating an important birthday and our waiter seemed to care less. We had the salmon tower which was so-so (though we had heard rave things about it), the tuna club sandwich, which was was basically a rice sandwich and inedible, and shumai for apps. The Shumai was ok. The sushi was ok, but made me ill afterward. The fried cheesecake and fried banana were awful. Both were cold and had a nauseating sugar coating on them. Overall, extremely disappointing.
the dining area was almost empty when we arrived. We ordered and had to wait over an hour to even see a waitress to ask about our meal! We watched two separate tables come in , order, drink, eat and leave before we even got our food. The food was OK at best and overpriced for what we ordered. I will never return again due to the poor service!
Skip it. "Hibachi" seafood arrived NON grilled in a brown tasteless sauce and white rice with frozen veggies. I did asked if it was grilled and was told on their grill - should have returned the dish. Husband's S2 and Tower was "ok sushi". Not super fresh or flavorful.
Miso soup was lukewarm and not great.
Oh - and we were the only people in the entire restaurant. Friendly server.
Love this spot. Everytime I go I wonder why I don't come back sooner. I will say the place itself it just a rectangle dining room but the service is always friendly and fast. Our server Brad was so sweet and patient with us and our questions. Sushi was out of this world!! Also try the tuna tartare on wonton wrappers.
The seating area is one large room upstairs. There were only a few people there. but the place echoed. We waited 15-20 minutes until a waiter asked us if we had ordered. We said no, he apologized, then walked away. A few minutes later another waiter came up and took our order. To compensate, they did give us our Edamame appetizer for free. The sushi was just OK. One roll had shrimp tempura in it, and it tasted like it was time to change the fryer oil. Overall, Not the worst place for sushi, but we'll keep looking for better.
We have been to Umami Umami many times before and we have never been disappointed. From the start, the service is wonderful, not intrusive and always there when needed. The variety in the menu is extensive and everything that I have ever ordered has been delicious. They never disappoint.
More of a family restaurant. Definitely not a place you'd be looking to go for a girl's night out. It was quiet with radio music, a family with young kids, and an old couple. And this was on a saturday night. You wouldn't be gramming this if ya know what I mean. The menu was a bit confusing and dated (as well as the interior). Food was slightly better than average - like a 3.5 but I've had better sushi/rolls/sashimi for a better price at other places. The server kind of seemed disinterested and barely explained the dishes. I wouldn't come here again unless it was with my great aunt or something. Oh and the raspberry sake tastes like robintussin- YUCK.
This restaurant is fine if you need to eat but honestly I'd recommend the Wendy's next door first. The place is pretty and well decorated but that's where it stops. The service was fine but the waiter very pointedly did not ask us how our food was when he saw all the barely touched dishes. It's like he knew what we were going to say.
We tried the shu Mai, the tower, and three rolls. All were somewhat edible. None were good. The owners and sushi chefs are just going through the motions and have no enthusiasm to create a lively and exciting meal. There is no umami in this restaurant.
We set out to fine some great Asian food nearby and this place fit the bill. The food was good and the service was excellent, especially considering that there were only two people running the front of house. Nothing fancy, but a great solid restaurant that I would certainly visit again and again.
Can't believe we've never tried this place before. Outstanding! Went on a Friday night and surprisingly it wasn't crowded. Folks are missing out. I started with their signature sushi tower (the small one) and it was really really good. I can't even begin to imagine how big the large one was. My wife had the bulgolgi and even through my head cold it smelled delicious. The meat was flavorful and tender, and not overly fatty. Our daughter had the tempura and it was crispy, not greasy and super flavorful. I had a medium 10 piece assorted sushi as my main and everything was fresh and delicious. The individual pieces of fish were some of the largest I've ever seen on a sushi plate. Highly recommended.
Restaurant is in a remodeled colonial from the 1800s and is very comfortable. The wait staff and sushi chefs are friendly and out going. Had the Nigiri sushi bento box for lunch. Most of the fish did not taste fresh. They do not seem to turn the inventory very fast. It is a convenient location, but I'd rather drive a little further for better food experience.
Great place, shame that not more people know about it. The food is really fantastic though and its certainly an adventure to try. Their Umami sampler is my personal favorite as well as the dragon roll. They have a variety to chose from and its amazing. Also, really good service. We always sit as the bar and watch the sushi and other dishes being made. Really interesting. The people are nice and its usually full of locals.
we went for mother's day dinner and despite making a reservation, waited nearly 25 minutes to be seated with no assigned host at the door. Our waiter--who was also filling the host role, was then another 15-20 minutes before taking our drink oreder, which ended up being out entire meal order since the wait was so long. He was friendly and apologetic, but the wait was too long, especially when only about half of the tables in the relatively small seating area were actually empty! To top it off, by the time we finished and the dining room actually started clearing out, an additional waitstaff arrived, but there were practically no patrons there by then. Having said all that, the sushi was excellent, our favorite was 'the tower'. Can't figure out their staffing plan here though. The dining space is somewhat bare and open/cavernous, which leads to more ambient noise than you might expect from a small number of people.
First time eating here, I pass by the building all the time and was always curious so I thought it was time to check it out! Our sushi was delicious (we had the Tower, Ninja Roll, & Shrimp Tempura Roll) and our server was very knowledgeable and service was quick. & I loved the extra touch of the orange slices served at the end with our check.
I will definitely go back!
Disappointed that both of the first choices we had ordered were not available even though our seating was at 5:45. Not extremely busy but our drinks were not refreshed as often as I would have liked. The food we did order was good and I would probably order again but only as take out and not dine in.
