I dined here for the first time and was won over by the quality of the sushi, sake, and also service. It's worth driving down 20 miles from the North Shore to eat here.

The food was delicious. It was very reasonably priced and we had great service. We were with colleagues from Hawaii and they thought it was phenomenal.

Probably the freshest and tastiest seafood that I've ever had in the midwest with a good mix of traditional and innovative plates. The service was excellent and staff were very kind and helpful. I'll definitely be returning!

The three of us had such a nice experience dining at Umai early Sunday evening. The service was extraordinarily welcoming. She suggested some menu items that really complemented a wonderful meal. Everything was outstanding - we left happy!

Love this place. Delicious food, great choices, elegant/fun/cool vibe. Staff are attentive and professional, friendly and helpful. It’s not a large place - make reservations if u can. We always visit here when we’re in town.

Just OK. The restaurant was finishing up lunch service so we were warned when we sat down. Standard Sushi + Izakaya fare. Everyone was served a bowl of miso to start - even the person having udon. The udon was the same you would get anywhere. Sysco must have a prepared udon they offer. I had an over cooked and under seasoned (sea salt) salmon shioyaki served oddly enough with broccoli and potatoes. Sashimi seemed fine. It's not a destination.

I was in town for a music festival and my girlfriend and I found this place on Google. It sounded great and turned out to be great! The quality of the food was high and the prices were reasonable. Everything I had I liked. The service was timely, friendly, and I was paid enough attention to. Would definitely go back again when in the area.

My meal was excellent! The teriyaki salmon is always amazing. The sweet potato maki was the best I've had from Umai. It was perfectly crunchy and warm wrapped up neatly in my seaweed roll.

Chic, modern, and happening. This is not a sleepy place. As some noted, the noise level is higher than you might expect when you think of Japanese food. But this is intentional. This restaurant is modern. Food presentation is very good. Service was very attentive. Food was also very good. Great choice.

I picked this restaurant for a business meeting with one of my co workers who was new to sushi. The reviews seemed positive and they were spot on. The fish was very fresh and the chef really created works of art. Our server had some great recommendations on the menu and beer choices. It is not a quiet place so I would pick this spot for date just not a romantic one. But for a relaxed after work meeting spot or casual business dinner, this is a great choice.

Although we had to wait a while for a server to approach our table.. the server who took our order was excellent. He spaced out the food how we had requested and always checked on us. Food and service were outstanding!! I highly recommend this restaurant.

Ordered udon with pork. After a few minutes when soup had cooled a bit there were lots of grease flecks which I did not enjoy. Have only had sushi here before which was always good.

Great overall atmosphere. I was most impressed by the consistently personal, meaningful interactions I had with all of the staff. It was a very enjoyable dinner, and every member of the staff helped contribute to that experience!

I was by myself and feeling a little under the weather. I just wanted a hot cup of tea, a bowl of miso soup, and a yummy roll or two. I was not disappointed! The service was great, my server brought me two hot refills of tea, gratis, and that was, hands down, the best miso soup I have ever had. I'm also a spicy tuna roll snob, and there's did not disappoint. Lastly, I appreciate that they offer half-rolls of their fancier, more creative rolls. I had one with sirloin and chimichurri sauce on top that was fantastic!

Amazing ramen, delicious sushi, impeccable service. We had a loud, obnoxious table of 11 and they accommodated us beautifully. I returned two days later for that amazing ramen.

The food was ok, nothing special.. but the worst thing was by the end of our dinner, there was our table and another one still eating, the restaurant kitchen staff turn on a vacuum cleaner, it was really loud.
They had closed already but I think you're not supposed to do that if you still have clients inside the restaurant. It was really unpleasant, not coming back..

We love this restaurant! The food is delicious and the vibe is very welcoming. The menu has a wonderful variety of dishes to choose from; all kinds of proteins (in case you don't eat fish!), lots of vegetables, many different preparations. The food is fresh, prepared beautifully and artfully presented. The waitstaff are always friendly and knowledgeable; the prices are very fair for the high quality and variety. We don't live nearby, but always make time to eat here when we're visiting Chicago.

Our dinner was great. We were visiting the area for the weekend and we love sushi. We normally always try one sushi restaurant on most of our travels. The rolls were really really good. We had the Chicago, Sloopin and Mexicana and they were great. Chicago and Sloopin were by far the best.
Service was good.
