Executive Chef Paul Chant, is the mastermind of the small tapas plates appearing from Ukai's hot kitchen. With influences from around the globe, Chant has constructed an eclectic array of plates such as an Heirloom tomato Salad with fresh mozzerella, capers, olives and dates with a homemade pesto; deconstructed Mushuu Duck buns with sous vide duck breast, cucumber caviar and cherry-port reduction; and seared Hanger Steak with roasted bell peppers, fried okra and crispy onion rings.
Behind the steel and bamboo clad sushi bar, Chef and Co-Owner Choong J. shines with an array of fresh fish, delivered daily to the new northside restaurant. A selection of specialty maki rolls "dedicated to all Chicago sports fans" showcases rolls such as the Cubs Roll with fresh mozzerella, avocado, unagi and shrimp tempura, lightly fired in a tempura batter.

Huge sushi menu, the rolls I chose were DELICIOUS!! The crab Rangoon was also the best I’ve ever had! Enjoyed the BYOB aspect as well
very cute and quiet spot! food was very good and fresh
The sushi here is amazing and very fresh! Great service and atmosphere.
Great place for a first date... it is BYOB which I didn't know until we got there .
Nice spot. Nothing fancy. Service was prompt. The rolls were average. The nigiri was above average. Good value.
It’s was just okay
Good sushi for the price. Never understand while there aren't more patrons, very underrated.
Our dining experience was excellent. All the food was of high quality and taste. One of the beat Sushi we have had in the longest time
I typically love Ukai. This is the first time I've been in since the pandemic versus getting takeout. They allowed for a 9:30PM reservation on Open Table, but DO NOT TAKE IT. They rushed us to order, inflated our bill by not asking if we wanted half or whole rolls (every other time I've been if you do not specify you get the half) and then rushed us out.
It was an uncomfortable dining experience. If you don't want customers sitting at 9:30...don't allow for a 9:30 reservation. Plain and simple.
I do not plan on returning.
Lovely place and great food!
Ukai is amazing! Best sushi in Chicago with an amazing staff and great food all around.
BYOB, no corking fee. Great sushi! Good service. Simple decor.
I had a great birthday dinner here with my mom on a Thursday night. We ordered apps, several rolls, and enjoyed our own Sake. The staff wore gloves and masks, the restaurant was quiet, and the bill was very reasonable.
Service was EXCELLENT. Food was fabulous. We asked the service to bring out "chef's selection" and I am pretty sure it was his (the server's) selection but we were totally fine with that because he crushed it. Would absolutely go again!
This was my first dine-in experience in months, and so I was a bit apprehensive. However, the Ukai staff did their best to maintain social distancing, and the restaurant was relatively crowded. The food was good too!
We went and got maki rolls. We ordered the chicken wings and wakame (seaweed salad) and both were great! I loved the seaweed salad so much I ordered it twice!! We ordered the dynamite, Chicago and sweet potato roll. The dynamite and Chicago were good and the seeet potato one was outstanding, it was perfectly sweet with a little crunch. Definitely recommend Ukai!
It was closed for dining
Ramen was served not warm
The sushi was fresh and well prepared. Service was great and a the meal was reasonably priced. The BYOB is nice
Delicious, fresh food, artistically presented. Pleasant service.
I really like this place and it's great that it's BYO!
Food was good and reasonably priced. Service was great. Nice ambiance.
This was our first time in due to getting a coupon in the mail and we will be back! Service was great and their menu offers a variety of not only sushi but other dishes for non-sushi lovers. Its in a great location and the BYOB option is always a good thing
Not impressed at all. Eso silky with the sashimi platter. Rolls were plain. Definitely not worth the value. Going back to my or original Seadog sushi. This place: LOST MY BUSINESS!
The BEST bang for your buck!! Their specialty rolls are so reasonable!! Delicious and BYOB! The best miso soup!
Great rolls and prices!
First time customer, absolutely delighted with everything from service to food quality.
Food was yummy and servers were nice!
Annie, our server was lovely and efficient.
Sushi was very fresh and delicious.
Chicken teriyaki dishes were great.
It’s very casual, young crowd and family-friendly.
Perfect if you are going to see a play at Theater Wit...it’s a short walk away.
Always hits. Our go-to sushi spot in Chicago
Great sushi for a good price. BYOB and nice atmosphere. I would recommend!
I visit here often and their sushi is great every time. They were much busier than usual last Friday. The server mentioned they were short staffed but still managed to bring our food out quickly and was very friendly. Love that it is BYOB too.
Good sushi place. Love that’s it’s byob too!
Lovely restaurant, nice service, food is excellent.
Ukai Sushi was phenomenal! Prices were reasonable and the service was great. The Chicago sports teams rolls were the BEST. Will be back there soon! (It's also BYOB so take advantage of that!!)
Good price and tasty food.
Amazing food, service and ambiance. I strongly suggest their salmon tartar and spicy miso soup!
We love Ukai. It’s our favorite sushi in Chicago. Super fresh, interesting flavors, lovely staff. Always a great experience, whether we do a date night or a family dinner with our kids.
