I brought my friends here to get them to dip their toe into one of my favorite cuisines. They all left full and happy, 2 of them even tried the balut. While it has some Americanized dishes for the unadventurous, those looking for a solid Filipino meal will leave satisfied. Not the most extensive menu, but what they do, they do well.

We had the spicy pork buns and fried spring rolls to start, both were well liked with one friend wolfing down more than their fair share. One ordered the ugly grilled apple salad and raved about it. Another ordered the goat stew and ravenously devoured it. The rest of us were considerate enough share and the chicken adobo (which I find to be the easiest dish to ease the hesitant into trying) went over very well, as did the pork belly, and sisig. I didn't even get a chance to try the pork belly as it vanished while my back was turned.

The wait staff was friendly and accommodating and the owner made sure we were taken cared of. Overall a very successful food outing and I would definitely come again

Filipino food that is adapted towards an American palate. However, food is good and reasonably priced. If dining in the dining area, arrive early before the crowd. Bar scene on a Friday night gets very vibrant and DJ spins music through the night.

Some people had their drinks come way after their food. Drinks were weak. Food was okay. Portions are small. Their website says happy hour everyday until 9. It ends at 8. I think that's how they get you

Ugly kitchen is the quintessential local joint for young professionals-good food, lovely bartenders, and great service.

My boyfriend and I ordered the tapsilog, longsilog, fried isaw, and the seasoned frites. All were delicious, but the best part were the drinks and the bartender,Rica who took good care of us and made sure we had a good time even when she was really busy.

The servers were really very friendly and very nice but there were not too many of them. I also don't think they were trained well. We ordered a bottle of sauvignon blanc and the gentleman brought to our table a bottle of white burgundy. We did not really mind but we told him that we asked for sauvignon blanc, he said they were the same!! The portions were small but they were good

Service is very attentive and the ambiance is nice (love the decor). Food was mostly good, has the usual selection of filipino cuisine with above average presentation and good portion control. Only sore spot was I went on a Sunday and some things were out of stock (they restock on Sunday).

We picked Ugly kitchen because we wanted to east Asian in that area of town and when we arrived we were a bit disappointed because there are so many charming looking restaurants in that area and this was not one of them BUT once we were inside it was cute enough and most importantly the drinks and the food were absolutely delicious! We had spring rolls (good) and dumplings (delicious), and three pork dishes (so good we re-ordered some). I would definitely go back!

The manager tried to kick us off a table we had reserved for another group. We were still ordering drinks, and even had a meal order placed. His reason: 1h30min eating limit. But he refused to answer to us why he felt the need to move us and not the other table that was there longer than us. Not only this, but we also got moved to sit under a huge vent with cold air blowing. The female server was just plain rude and had a sour attitude, the male servers however where the sweetest. The worst dinning experience yet.

I enjoyed my overall experience at the Ugly Kitchen. The only thing I have to complain about is they didn't have anything. I wanted to order wings-- they didn't have it. I wanted to order fries-- they didn't have that either. I wanted to order the ribs-- they didn't have it. Even their fear factor specialty which I really wanted to try was done. It was really frustrating . I want to go back so I can actually get a chance to try those things, but overall my dinner was good and the staff was very friendly.

Went here for dinner. The place becomes a bar/club late in the evening, with loud music and loud customers, so not really a good dining atmosphere. The food was good. We had the calamari (very good), bistek (very good), chicken adobo (good) and the bibingka (good), . Service was friendly, but slow and inattentive.

Great food, great portions. While at times the servers can see a bit flustered (but still nice), the food and great prices make up for it. Very accommodating when I needed to adjust my reservation. Good option for a slightly cheaper, but still upscale, version of Marharlika.

My family and I were there early in the evening so there weren't that many people yet, which is why we wondered at the loud music -- too loud to have a conversation. Not a family place, granted (more of a bar crowd) but if only there was a way to strike a balance. Once we ordered, the dishes came right away. Service was great -- very attentive. We had the apple salad (big portion, but I wish there was a variety of greens) -- still, the candied walnuts, grilled apple slices and dressing were yummy. The spicy adobo (served on a hot plate), grilled chicken (tender!), and Bulacan Express (pork in coconut milk) were all terrific and enough to feed a table of four. Prices were reasonable, esp. since dishes are good for sharing. We shall return!

Came here Saturday night 7:30, wasn't that busy but it is a pretty small place so seats filled up quickly. There's a bar and high tables and an area further in the back for like a full dining experience. The food was delicious, my boyfriend got Tapsilog and I got the Spicy Chicken Adobo and we were both very happy. Prices I think were appropriate, wasn't absurdly expensive like most of NYC. We left satisfied and not overly stuffed. I'd come back again!

First time find, recommended by a friend. A group of 6 of us wanted to hang out, enjoy great food, have great convo and that is what we found. Don't be fooled by the name. Shout out to Roy who went above and beyond for us, fabulous service! Don't walk, run to pick up your phone to make your reservations.

I won a gift certificate to Ugly Kitchen through a raffle I participated in. I decided to dine with our friends on a great summer night 7/17/14. We were seated promptly with our reservations. We made the happy hour cut-off and the Calamansi Martini was so delicious. We ordered family style for 10 guests. We had the Beef Brisket, Fried Pampano Fish, ugly Grilled Apple Salad, Lahing, Garlic Fried Rice, Shanghai Rolls, Pork Belly appetizer, Lechon Kawali, french fries, Sizzling Steak, and Crispy Pata. All the dishes were very tasty. Our guests enjoyed and we were definitely taken care of by the waiter and manager. Definitely would come back. Even if the certificate, the prices were average. Hope to win another certificate! Go me!

The lychee martinis are a must! The restaurant had more of a bar-feel than I expected and was definitely noisy, but if you're looking for a delicious late-night hangout Ugly Kitchen is the place for you.

There were many items that looked good on the menu, but disappointing once we tasted it. My hungry friends did not finish their meals - the quality of meat (pork belly, oxtail) was subpar, and the dumplings just tasted like pizza. The price was cheap so you get what you paid for. The staff was friendly but the service was spotty. After we were all done they would come and clear only half the table and not return for another 15 min when we reminded them to. Had I not seen other reviews later I would never have known that they serve desserts - the staff never showed us a dessert menu while we were just sitting there chatting after they cleared our main courses. It was an underwhelming experience.

Who knew there was another Filipino restaurant just down the street from Maharlika? We ate here for dinner on a Tuesday evening & were the only ones at the restaurant. We were told that it would get busier in the evening for their "Kamayan" style dinner - something we will have to go back and try. The food was delicious. My boys had double orders of their fried calamari and wings. The dasilog, lechon kawali and pork adobo ribs were all so tasty. We wanted to try more but were so stuffed! Even the cocktails were very good - who knew a calamansi sour would be so refreshing? And if you like coconut, then the buko pandan rum is the perfect drink! The service was great - Risa was extremely friendly and obliging. We cannot wait to go back!

This place is always a good place to go to for good service with a large group. The food and specials are always super tasty too. We had a group if 11 and our food and drinks came fast even though they were really busy with other tables. The DJ is awesome there too, mix of oldies, hip hop.

Went to there because I never tried filipino cuisine before. Had the fried pig intestines and the pork belly, liver and something else combination. Oh, and the fish balls as an app. Overall, was satisfied with the meal. It tasted pretty good. I probably wont be running back for the crazy stuff, but the service was great. Had good drink specials before 9PM. Good vibe. Good location. Overall very satisfied.

Went there with 3 of my friends, had a good time :-)

Food was good, simple and healthy portion size. Didn't get cocktails, only wine, not their thing but we liked it. I would not recommend if you want a table for two, it's kinda crowded with the bar or the DJ next to you (can be pretty loud) but with a bunch of friends it's a great pick! Service was awesome!
