What Insiders Are Saying
Uchiko isn't a sequel to Uchi. It's more like a fraternal twin.
The food was surprising, creative, delicious and memorable. But be prepared for small dishes. If you're hungry, be prepared to eat a little something before, or spend a pretty penny. It's worth the cost, just a heads up.
Food has always been great, service excellent and staff entertaining and helpful. If you can't find food you like on their menu...then you must hate sushi and Japanese food. My wife and I always look forward to eating here. Food is good enough that my cousin who hates sushi, now can't wait to visit again to gorge on the food here again! I tell everyone in the area that if they like any sushi, they need to come here at least once to try.
Everything was perfect! Delicious food, wonderful staff, and fabulous ambiance and presentation of food.
The food was great and not the same boring menu you see in other restaurants. The portion size is not huge but very satisfying. Great service and the only improvement I'd suggest is to make the menu items easier to understand.
Utica is fantastic. The food is so good. You can be as daring as you like trying new things because overbite is delicious and so fresh.
Aim for happy hour and plan to stay well past it. Like Uchi, you should do several rounds of tastings - we did omakase before and it wasn’t as fun.
Always a great dining experience at Uchiko- Food and service are stellar. Their menu is innovative and the wait staff helps guide you through the menu to create a tailored experience. LOVE the hama chili, kinoko sushi, and take nabe. Nothing like the milk and cereal dessert. Wish I could dine at Uchiko every day!
Uchiko is a wonderful place to celebrate a milestone at work or play. I was celebrating an anniversary. From beginning to end the experience was lovely.
The food is always amazing. We had the chef tasting and it didn't disappoint. I am always impressed by how knowledgeable the staff is. Highly recommend.
Great food and the portions looked small but is probably right if you are eating to enjoy the taste as opposed to just filling up.
Noisy but ok unless you want to be able to carry on important conversations.
Service is generally above average but we had to suffer through a cheerless waitperson. Perhaps just a bad day for her.
I’ve traveled a lot and have eaten a lot of sushi, but I think this may be my new favorite spot. The food was incredible, and the staff was knowledgeable and professional. 10 out of 10 would recommend this place.
Amazing. Everything was superb.
We have been to their sister restaurant Uchi but this was our first time at Uchiko. We loved it! The food was amazing! The Take Nabe was so good! We also had some sushi and the Wagu beef--both excellent!
Updated Sake Social menu was a real treat.
A life changing food experience in every way.
Everything from start to finish was top-notch. Every single staff member had knowledge about the food that exceeded our expectations. The presentation was a work of art and flavor combinations combined with the ambience was stellar!
The plates were beautiful but the single candle light made it hard to see all the beauty in the low light (I sound super old)
Outstanding food. I’m usually not an adventurous eater but I have not had one bad thing here or at Uchi. So delicious and worth every penny!
Amazing sampling and dishes. Portions small so be prepared to order many different things but that’s okay because everything tastes amazing.
This place is usually amazing and honesty the food is fantastic, but tonight the server definitely left something to be desired. He was rude, forgetful, and disappeared for quite a while without checking on us. For how much you spend at uchiko (usually around $150-200 a couple), our visit this evening was very disappointing. We love the kinoko and tend to order at least a few of them ($7 a pop for a small piece of sushi that is 1000% worth it FYI), but our server called them "butter bombs" when we ordered them initially and then criticized us each subsequent order. I'm not sure what's going on with this place, because someone who criticizes food prepared by an award winning chef so freely should really not be working in such a nice restaurant.
The overall dining experience was fantastic as usual. My only complaint was that the hostesses did not communicate to our waitress that it was my husband's birthday. We dine at Uchi in Houston often and know that Chef Cole tells his staff to be creative in bringing a dish to the table for special occasions. It was slightly disappointing that this never happened for us on this occasion. However, when I inquired to the staff, they were more than apologetic and took a little off our bill to make up for it (which was nice, but absolutely not my intent when I inquired). We did enjoy many dishes we do not have at Uchi in Houston, and even with the small oversight we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We would definitely recommend Uchiko to friends and would definitely return. The pictured dishes are Kanpachi crudo (amberjack, poblano, asian pear & pea tendril) a perfect summer dish, and Sakana mushi (seamed seasonal white fish, tom yum, kaffir lime, honshimeji and tomato) which was incredible!
The best food and experience money can buy. Life changing!
My favorite restaurant in Austin! They are always on point from food to service! I love this place & im so grateful I got to have my birthday dinner here with one of my best friends!!!!!!

Absolutely Amazing Sushi! Some of the best in the world! Incredibly romantic vibe and stunning decor. I have entertained many of my friends here, and they have been left speechless. The entire staff from the back of the house to the front seem to have a sense of pride. Watch when they deliver each artistic explosion of sushi ecstasy to you, trust me you’ll see. The Sushi bar is definitely a must do on my list of must dos in Austin. Don’t discount the same incredible service at the bar. Everyone of the bartenders are incredibly super friendly and knowledgeable on what to order. Pay attention, ask for Tim, a true sushi connoisseur! He’s a seasoned veteran who can you can definitely trust to guide you through an amazing Sushi flight. Let the true Sushi itamae wow you with their expertise and I promise you you will not be disappointed.
Always an amazing dining experience. One of the best sushi restaurants in the world. I’m in Asia twice a month and spent 6 days in Tokyo and Uchiko compares favorably to the best and certainly the most creative sushi/Japanese cuisine out there. Great service, great menu, amazingly fresh fish direct from Tsukiji fish market in Japan and crazy good pairings of sashimi/fruit/etc in many dishes. My favorite Austin restaurant!
My wife and I sat at the Sushi bar for my 60th birthday! The chef's recommendations were fantastic! Great people, great service. Best meal, by far, I have had , can't remember one better. Thanks chef, thanks Uchiko! My wife has already committed us back to the sushi bar for her Sep birthday.
This is the second time I've eaten at Uchiko in 2 years and a must have when we visit Austin. Not only is it the best sushi I've ever had, but the best meal and food experience I've ever had.
Uchi and Uchiko are by far two of our favorites and have been for years. Everything they prepare is top notch and worth a try.
Every piece of food we received was spectacular! The Otoro basically changed my life.
Watching the staff work is like watching an extremely intricately timed dance... everyone has their place and timing down in such an amazing way. Thank you all so much for a truly wonderful experience!
We love Dining in Uchiko, sushi rolls were awesome our daughter loved it. She is not big in sushi.
Best sushi in town.
Best sushi in town. Try the Masu (Tasmanian trout sushi), have never seen it at Nobu. Been around the globe and Uchiko ranks very high.
It’s been a few years since we’ve dined at Uchiko. Our last experience was outstanding and we were very much looking forward to dining there again. Service was great, but the sushi, although fresh, was mediocre. We may try again in the future as it’s nice to go to neighborhood restaurants.
Uchiko was great, as always. The recommendations from the waiter were spot on and the food was wonderful. My only complaint, and it is minor, is that we were seated in the bat area and it was fairly loud.
Excellent from start to finish. Pleasant valet, agreeable hostess, excellent waitstaff and wonderful food, which was brought out in a logical and pleasing order. The sashimi was first rate, but the other items were much more interesting, with sometimes arresting - but harmonious flavors combined to make much more than the stated ingredients.
Server and service was exceptional. She was knowledgeable, attentive and made excellent recommendations.
Tried classic Omakaese, good tapas, green tea tastes good too.
We asked the waitress to bring us whatever was good, and had probably 8 to 10 dishes. None of the dishes were incredible but all were good. The desert was beautiful and superb.
Service was pretty attentive, but I will say my glass was empty multiple times. Overall a good place, but it is just so expensive for what you get.
