Chef Tyson Cole, winner of the 2011 James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Southwest--Thank you Uchi and Uchiko family and friends for your support!
Uchiko, translated as "child of Uchi" from Japanese, is the next restaurant venture for renowned executive chef and sushi master Tyson Cole. Located in central Austin, this second location of Cole’s highly-praised Uchi presents the same excellence and energetic atmosphere of the original with some noteworthy additions. Uchiko will feature a new menu with Uchi’s same style of innovative, fresh cuisine, a main dining room that accepts reservations throughout the evening and an eat-in bar/café area.

What Insiders Are Saying
Uchiko isn't a sequel to Uchi. It's more like a fraternal twin.
I was deathly terrified of eating raw fish and was really nervous coming here, but all my fears are a thing of the past now. The staff here were super friendly and comforting and were happy to explain all the dishes as well as what to expect when you eat them! I will definitely be going back!
Amazing food and staff. Over the top service.
Good food and great service. The only issue was the noise level but it was packed so to be expected.
Highly recommended! Celebrated my birthday dinner and everything was perfect. Great service, relaxing environment, and best sushi in town. Will definitely be back.
The food has been consistently exceptional but the service was unusually poor. From the time we were seated to receiving the check, it took 2 hours and 40 minutes. We wanted to order more but didn’t want to stay for 3+ hours.
Wonderful food and outstanding service
We had reservations, fortunately, and were immediately taken to our table upon arrival. We started with a cocktail-- the Keria and it was really quite delicious and intriguing, setting the pace for a remarkable meal. Our server was on top of everything throughout our dining experience. He could answer all our questions about the menu, and was especially helpful in advising me about my vegan options. Our items were very well paced and brought out with enough time to adequately enjoy each item and our conversation. The servers who brought out each item could also remind us about the ingredients that item. Each item was delightful, with wonderful combinations of textures and surprising seasonings. The desserts were really quite exciting. This was our second visit over the span of a few years, and the menu has grown significantly while the quality has remained at the very top of our expectations. We very much look forward to our next visit.
Just an amazing place to spend our 30th !! Can’t wait till next year !
Me and my partner decided to eat here for my birthday. I’d left a note in my reservation about several allergies, and they made sure EVERY dish was modified to be safe. It was great to just be able to eat and not worry about anything.
It really let us enjoy the food which was amazing. We let the chef choose our first 5 plates and most were excellent and all were creative.
I have NEVER liked sushi, but Uchi and Uchiko have absolutely converted me. Problem is of course I’ll only go there!
Always a lovely experience at Uchiko-amazing food and wonderful service.
We were recommended by Aaron Franklin so we took a later than normal reservation. We got there an hour early and they managed to get us a table early. Our waitress was our official tour guide. She was fantastic. The presentation and preparation was amazing! We aren’t usually desert people but the Cereal and Milk was memorable. Will recommend to others.
Our waitress, Savanah, was totally awesome. Information about the menu, great personality, super sweet & friendly!
Our first time at Uchiko Austin, have been to Uchi in Houston numerous times, which we love! Got the server’s omakase, and mentioned that my husband did not particularly care for fruit (I know it’s weird). Had several very tasty raw fish plates, all having some mild fruit component (mostly citrus). But no worries, we know that’s Chef Cole’s style. The only dish we truly disliked was the tiger prawns with plum sauce. We found the sauce was overly sweet, and kind of ruined the dish. However, when the manager noticed we barely touched the prawns, he immediately asked for our feedback, which we honestly gave, and he had another dish brought to us which was delicious. The wagyu beef was sublime, although the eggplant accompanying fell flat. We also ordered the caramelized Brussels sprouts, because you can’t miss a chance to taste those! The last course was exquisite and my husband thought it was the best dessert he has ever had: silky chocolate mousse with a refreshing milk sorbet, some sort of toasted marshmallow tuille (tasted like s’mores!), and little bite size fritters of what I think was condensed milk that was battered and deep fried.
Probably the best meal I've ever had. The Brussels sprouts are amazing and the ebi roll was amazing (I have a fish allergy so those are great options for that. You can request the Brussels sprouts be made vegan)
The entire experience was amazing. Our server, Kelly, was wonderful. The food was excellent! This dinner was for my husband's birthday and we did the sake social hour menu, ordering at least one of everything. The hama chili and grilled broccoli were my favorites!
Excellent food, excellent service. Always a treat. The restaurant is on the noisy side and while the meal and service were excellent, the cost is high so I have to rate the value lower.
The food is art in action. Both aesthetics and taste are well done and creative. The restaurant is extremely loud, it is difficult to carry on a conversation at your table without feeling like you're shouting--some sound absorption material would be an excellent investment here. The price, cuisine quality and noise level are all high--be prepared.
Best sushi in Austin as well as other major cities. Menu truly an original. Service excellent.
Everything was AMAZING from start to finish! Jeremy, A.K.A. Beyoncé, was absolutely incredible and helped us order when we were indecisive- he knew what we wanted before we even knew! Brownie points for his humor, enthusiasm for the food, and kind demeanor! The food was the best we’ve had in a long time- maybe ever! The entire dinner was a culinary experience and the staff was professional and knowledgeable to a T! Another waiter, Mac, also helped curate our amazing experience- he was fabulous! He recommended incredible drinks and stopped by frequently to see how we liked everything. Overall, the staff was incredible, food was incredible, and we will DEFINITELY be back!
Great experience as usual. The only thing this time was that I'd added a couple seating requests, a first and second priority, and neither was addressed. I'm not sure if this is because they just ignored it or didn't get it. Maybe they just couldn't accommodate my request, or maybe it didn't make it through OpenTable's interface. No idea, but next time I'll try to make sure it goes through.
Excellent evening with my wife. Seated promptly with our reservations on a busy Saturday night. Lauren was fantastic. We put the decisions in her hands and the food, quantity, and price were all on point.
We were sat next to the bar and the people waiting for table hung over our table and it was very distracting. Noise level was a little loud.
AMAZING experience at Uchiko! We went on a date, and from the moment we sat down our waiter was attentive, funny, and kind. She helped us pick out the best dishes, checked on us frequently, and even gave us a special and complimentary dessert! We left with smiles and will definitely be back.
Had an amazing birthday dinner with my bf here. The food was great. Service was amazing. They were nice enough to give us extra dessert as a thank you for coming in on my birthday.
Uchiko has always been the go-to for outstanding food in Austin but as an Austinite who lives in the neighborhood and has been going there since the first day it opened it feels as if they've become set in what's offered. Over the year there would be new offerings. Perhaps it's just me and I've eaten there too often. I really miss the Diver Scallops w/wontons that were like an Uchiko version of a seafood nacho, miss the tobacco roll dessert on a plate NOT in a jar, but...for those who have never tried them, they offer the best fried onion rings in Austin and among the best happy hours.
The food was top notch and the service was great. Looking to take my family back now that I have eaten there
Fantastic Sushi and great drinks. Waygu selections were outstanding. Good service
Wonderful experience! Amazing food, friendly, helpful Reservations and Wait staff, beautiful ambiance. Very highly recommend!
Uchiko remains one of the best restaurants in Austin. Service is top notch. Sharon at the bar was super friendly, super helpful. Overall a great place to eat.
Wonderful food and service! I’m NEVER disappointed here!
Uchiko was as amazing as always!
We arrived for our reservation 30 minutes early and they were able to accommodate us immediately. We are somewhat regulars, so we expect the service will always be exceptional. Julia was pleasant, and engaging, and made excellent recommendations, and even finagled a treat for us when we couldn’t make up our mind on dessert. We tried a bunch of things we normally don’t order, and were not disappointed once. Always an amazing meal. Thanks!!!
Get the king crab dish.....it’s so far down the menu, I’m so sad I didn’t discover it years ago.
The gyutoro (72 hour short rib) is my favorite thing here. It’s just a bite, so do yourself a favor and order 2.
The Yokai Berry and pork belly dishes were stand out as well.
This place does not disappoint
Always a good experience! The food is amazing and the service is great.
Noise level was oppressive, otherwise it would be a 5 star rating
Excellent food & excellent service. That’s the Uchiko way.
Amazing. Can't wait to come back! It was my boyfriend's first time and he throughly enjoyed it.
Exceptional food and service as always Uchiko does not disappoint!
This was my first time here and it was amazing! My dad and brother were visiting and they loved it, even with my dad going to Asia all the time for business! I will definitely be coming back!
The food at Uchiko is an “experience” that one absolutely must do. Let the unbelievable staff take you on that journey. Sharon was incredible and knowledgeable and trust that she will guide you on an incredible journey. I’ve never had a bad experience dining at Uchiko. Do yourself a favor spend the money and enjoy the experience. You will never regret it. Sushi mastery in every single bite.
