What Insiders Are Saying
Uchiko isn't a sequel to Uchi. It's more like a fraternal twin.
The best sushi I’ve ever tasted. Only downside was the overcrowded bar and very high noise level.
Had a great experience at Uchiko! Service was great. The happy hour menu is a great value with virtually no wrong choice. The desserts are amazing as well!
Our waiter Mac was outstanding. We gave him a few likes, and he created a menu from those and his own selections. His choice of sashimi was terrific. Ask for Mac.
Food was good but I chipped a bottom tooth on something in a beef dish.
We had another wonderful experience at Uchiko. The food was outstanding, great drinks, ambiance, and service. Little disappointed they did not do anything special for my wife's birthday, but otherwise very happy.
First timer here! This place was AMAZING! Our server answered every question we had, and was always near by if I needed anything. I went with my fiance for my birthday, and was pleasantly surprised with a few special items.
Would definitely recommend this place to anyone, sushi lover or not!
Our favorite spot to celebrate!
The service at the sushi bar was outstanding. Our chef personalized our menu and we were beyond satisfied!
Let me start with perspective. I am from the NYC area, and a seasoned diner. My son is particularly fond of sushi, which is the reason for choosing this restaurant for our visit to Austin. Open table recommended it as one of the best. I love Japanese food, but am not overly fond of sushi. The good first. The ambience is quite nice. Tables and booths, not too noisy. Service was excellent. The overall experience however was just “meh”. The food was just ok, and the value was not great at all in my opinion. And that says a lot coming from nyc I think
My son and I ordered a special app of fried okra. The menu description was not what was delivered. So much so that the waiter removed it from our bill. As a southerner, I love fried okra, which was what was described on the menu. The app was some small fried okra, but mostly thinly sliced raw okra and pickled okra. Not great.
Then we ordered the pork jowl, which was ok, but the pork slices were over 50% fat. We had to cut it off to be able to eat it. The fat was just gross. The pear and creme fraiche were awesome though. The smoked duck was good, but not fantastic, and $28. The waygu beef was great, served raw with a hot rock and you cook it yourself which was neat. But at $17.5 for 6 pieces, not a bargain. My son also had a spicy tuna roll, which was ok but not spicy.
We ordered dessert, which was the best part of the meal. Not typical for any Japanese restaurant we’ve been too, the bill was $135 for the two of us including tip. I had one glass of wine and we had water. Overall, The meal was just ok. For that amount of coin I would expect a far better meal. My son was still hungry when we got back to the hotel and ordered room service. He’s not a big eater BTW.
Great food as always. Really fresh tempura green beans. Yummy Brussels sprouts. Great waiter. Slowish service this time but not really bad.
Exceptional! The omakase was wonderful. Nice sancerre wine.
Uchiko never disappoints. It is always a full restaurant, but the noise level feels like you are the only people there. Staff is always professional and attentive with great recommendations. Uchiko is my favorite special event place to go and if I had the budget I would be there for more casual nights out as well.
As always, we love this place. Our only complaint was that it was so, so loud we could barely hear each other at our table.
The social happy hour is one of the best-kept secrets in town. You can literally order everything on the menu, reload on the things you liked best, have several drinks and still escape for under $100/couple.
My boyfriend and I LOVED this place! We had great food and great service. The fish was incredibly fresh - flavorful and the perfect texture. We will definitely be back.
Exceptional experience! Thank you for consistently providing outstanding food and service.
Uchiko is always amazing and never disappoints. One of the best restaurants!
A continual favorite for us. Uchiko is a wonderful restaurant with a simply outstanding menu. Great food, wonderful staff and a happy hour that offers tremendous value make for a great spot to take out of town guests to showcase all that is best about Austin.
Great service and really amazing food!
Great selections and really creative flavors! I absolutely want to go back for more.
Creative food. Wonderful fish. Outstanding service.
Best meal and service that I’ve had in a long time.
It was fun, delicious and the best meal I’ve had in a while! 100% recommend
Excellent food and service! Very tasty food. Nice presentation of the food. One of the best restaurants I’ve had in Austin.
As always, Uchiko provides amazing food and customer service. It is the standard for fine dining in Austin.
This is still about the best food in Austin. Expensive, but well worth it.
Favorite spot in Austin for Asian inspired dining with just a touch of pretentiousness
Every time I come to Uchiko, its fantastic. While its not inexpensive, the quality of the experience always leaves me feeling like its a good value. The staff is very knowledgeable and always add to the experience with great recommendations.
Outstanding in all categories for sure but the staff's knowledge, demeanor and service are especially worthy of note. A special shout out to our waitress, April, who was knowledgeable and wonderful in guiding us through a foodie's delight of a meal!
Consistently excellent! I eat here every time I come to Austin and it never disappoints.
Uchiko is a always a wonderful special occasion Austin restaurant. However on this occasion our service was poor, as we had a switch of servers and subsequent delay in receiving several rounds of sushi. Made for a long dinner, where we were waiting and hungry for portions of the evening.
Our waiter, Aaron, was so kind and very knowledgeable about everything on the menu. He even made recommendations so that we weren't ordering similar rolls and we were able to expand our tasting palette with his guidance. We let him know we didn't drink alcohol and he knew what items on the menu to stay away from (some that may contain alcohol in a sauce on the side for example). He was great and the ambiance was soothing and perfect for us.
My family and I love this restaurant. The food is vibrant, creative, and delicious! They manage to take ingredients that you would never think you'd actually be brave enough to try approachable and incredibly tasty. We all dared ourselves to try jellyfish sushi there the other night and it was amazing! Not at all what we were expecting in the way of texture and flavor. The service has been outstanding every time we've been there as well. The only thing that I would give as a bit of a warning is that it is fairly pricey, especially given the fact that the service is comprised of small plates. Typically, we spend close to $100 per person for dinner without alcohol. It doesn't keep us from going back but definitely worth considering. All the same...truly amazing restaurant!
Waiter was cocky and slow. Food previously great has now slipped over the past year. Everything seemed out of control...
Overall good experience, food was not memorable, however service was great!
Absolutely AMAZING food! Our server was extremely attentive and even brought us an extra s'mores dessert because she heard us talking about our camping trip. I'm a vegetarian and my husband is not, but they made the chef's tasting for two work for both of us. Our server asked us all the right questions so we got food we loved. A little pricey but great for a special occasion.
This may have been the best food I have ever eaten! Incredible menu.
Always a treat. Consistently mind-blowing. It’s a full experience for the tastebuds. This remains one of the top 3 best restaurants in Austin for me.
Freakin delicious. Brandon was an amazing server and was so helpful and informative. My friend was visiting from out of state and we are STILL talking about how delicious the meal was. Can’t wait to come back.
I am very disappointed, definitely not worth the price! My server knew that it was my birthday she just didn’t give a F. She had a big table that arrived right after we placed our order so she gave them all her attention. I wonder if it has to do with race. She was missing most of the time. She also seemed quite annoyed when we ask for recommendations. I tipped her well because I used to be a server.
