Uchiko Ratings and Reviews
We ordered the five-course signature tasting menu, which was a good value at $73 for two. The menu on the night we went included maguro crudo (tuna sashimi with Asian pear), madai (sea bream sushi) and sake toro (salmon sushi), komaki (vegetable sushi roll), take nabe (sizzling rice bowl with egg and Japanese enoki mushrooms) and jasmine cream for dessert. We enjoyed all of the dishes except the komaki, which was pretty bland. The best and most creative dish was the take nabe. It was super flavorful and unlike anything I had ever tasted before. Our waiter described it as a “rice porridge” but it didn’t have the “wet” consistency of porridge. The rice, egg, enoki mushrooms, cilantro and scallions arrive as separate ingredients in a sizzling stone bowl and you cook all of the ingredients together, so it’s actually a pretty dry dish. We also ordered the hot rock as an additional dish and that was delicious and fun as you cook the raw slices of wagyu yourself to your preferred level of doneness. If you’re very hungry though I would recommend ordering the chef’s tasting menu, which is also a good value at $100 for two and is more substantial than the signature tasting menu. I think if you were to order a la carte you would pay a lot more. Our waiter, Brandon, was friendly and attentive so that was another plus. Uchiko seems to be a popular place for girls nights out so the noise level is very loud and at times even shrill, so that did take away from an otherwise pleasurable experience.
Been to Uchiko many times now and always love it! Service was less impressive than usual this time. We had to ask for a server after about 10 min... think they forgot about us. Kind of seemed like we were annoying or waitress throughout the night just by being there. But of course the food was delicious. Good vegan options on the happy hour menu (mushroom onigiri and avocado nigiri) plus the drinks were such a steal. Overall tad less impressed than usual, but still pretty darn impressed
I wanted to go to a good sushi restaurant for my birthday and, man, did I pick the best! It's the best food experience I've ever had! Hands down! Every appetizer/entree/dessert that was brought out to us had so many different flavors that worked well and made your taste buds reach a new level! I will DEFINITELY be recommending this restaurant to friends and will DEFINITELY be back WITH friends!! Great, great experience! Great food! Great service! Thank you!!
We can't praise the staff or food enough! Everything was delicious, artfully presented, and the staff were amazingly attentive. We were treated like celebrities, and I know why Uchi and Uchiko are top dining destinations in Austin. We'll definitely return and let all our friends in on our "secret!"
Exceptional service! Food was great. We appreciated the free samples that we got. When my husband went to the bathroom and left his napkin on his chair, a server came by, re-folded it, and put it back on the table. Lol! The good was not as expensive as we thought.
I would definitely recommend making a reservation.
the food is off the charts fantastic. the staff, every single one of them, were unbelievably professional, friendly, and helpful. This is one of the finest restaurants I've ever experienced. From food to staff the place is a star. Expensive, no doubt, but worth every penny.
We’ve been going to Uchiko for 6 years - and we’re never disappointed. One small glitch is that they’ve taken some of the best deserts off the menu - now the closing sweet dishes are pretty average. Invent some new creations to make the desert section as exciting as the rest of the menu.
Wondrous meal. We opted for the five course tasting menu. What a great deal. $70 for two people. We were afraid that there wouldn't be enough to eat, but there was plenty. Each dish was beautifully presented. We had only two quibbles. One was the miso soup, which didn't count as one of the five courses. It was a bit salty. Second, the room was noisy. When full, Uchiko is not the place for an intimate conversation. Everything else was first rate. Delicious dishes of the highest quality and excellent value.
Just when we thought it couldn’t get better. Uchiko delivers. Every. Single. Time. Fantastic and friendly service. Great timing with food bringing different dishes out. Fish was all superb. Toro worth every penny. Fluke flawless. What a great experience. Worth the $
Delicious food inspires good conversation. I don’t always love every single dish, but I know that most dishes I am served will have an unusual and especially delicious taste. Maybe it is The anticipation of something special that primes The special conversations.
The food, as always, was exceptionally good. There is always a little concern in going with the chef's choice but putting our trust in their menu selections was completely worth it.
Our server was capable and nice enough. I don't think our expectations were out of line with the caliber of restaurant that Uchiko is, but he could have been better. He did not offer another round / drink when our initial beverages were done. He did not make it clear that any ingredient requests would not be honored (or if it was an option) when we mentioned there was one item we weren't fans of (which we ended up getting in our second dish); it would have been appreciated and understood if he simply said the chef option was 100% fixed.
The support servers did a great job in explaining each dish and delivery was well-timed.
We selected Uchiko as the spot to celebrate our wedding (something that completely slipped the waiter's attention). While the food was memorable the overall experience was not. It was not bad by any stretch, but not balanced. We went to Uchiko last year for another special occasion and everything was superb, so perhaps the bar was just set high.
