Uchiko Ratings and Reviews
Delicious food inspires good conversation. I don’t always love every single dish, but I know that most dishes I am served will have an unusual and especially delicious taste. Maybe it is The anticipation of something special that primes The special conversations.
The food, as always, was exceptionally good. There is always a little concern in going with the chef's choice but putting our trust in their menu selections was completely worth it.
Our server was capable and nice enough. I don't think our expectations were out of line with the caliber of restaurant that Uchiko is, but he could have been better. He did not offer another round / drink when our initial beverages were done. He did not make it clear that any ingredient requests would not be honored (or if it was an option) when we mentioned there was one item we weren't fans of (which we ended up getting in our second dish); it would have been appreciated and understood if he simply said the chef option was 100% fixed.
The support servers did a great job in explaining each dish and delivery was well-timed.
We selected Uchiko as the spot to celebrate our wedding (something that completely slipped the waiter's attention). While the food was memorable the overall experience was not. It was not bad by any stretch, but not balanced. We went to Uchiko last year for another special occasion and everything was superb, so perhaps the bar was just set high.
My boyfriend and I went here on our one year anniversary. It was outstanding food, phenomenal service, and the perfect location for a special occasion. It was an expensive meal but well worth it! Don’t expect a hardy meal, I recommend eating a small about before to keep it at a reasonable price. Definitely the perfect place to go for a special date
Great restaurant!! Great food!
I would have rated it all stars, but they sat a family with a kid at the table next to us. We have two kids and date night is about getting away from them...we were disappointed that they didn’t have a separate section for groups with kids.
There were a few dishes that were very good, and there were a few that was mediocre. For the prices, you expect everything to be awesome and it wasn’t. It was also our anniversary and they didn’t mention it at all. So why even ask about special occasions if you don’t do anything for it? I regret talking this place up to my husband... we were disappointed.
Such inventive delicious food. I’m someone who really loves this restaurant and goes back whenever i can, but this time we hit a really EXCEPTIONAL waiter. Wish I had her name! Blonde short bob haircut, glasses, you know who you are: amazing suggestions, great unobtrusive service, gave us a free dish which turned out to be the gold star dish of the evening, took back and replaced the fois gras nigiri we had let get cold and past its prime ... this is super star service all done effortlessly and without an ounce of pretension. A total wow of an evening.
Not a big dessert person so the birthday mackerel was a nice surprise since we were ordering small plates for the table. Server and every other staff member that dropped a plate at the table noted that the item was nut-free. Much appreciated and nice attention to detail. Well done
Every food item was delicious, start to finish with the hama chile, short rib, eggplant tempura, hand roll appetizer, crunchy tuna roll, ebi roll, and shag roll. Coming off of a previous experience in which some items were a bit dinky, this last time knocked it out of the park. Sake social prices on some items are an added bonus! Even the weird-sounding dessert was delicious -- some kind of chocolate and peanut butter concoction with ice cream on the side.
This was my second year of celebrating my birthday at Uchiko. My friends and I were impressed by the option of having a gluten-free chef's tasting menu (ten courses) and we ordered a few of our favorites like the chicken karaage and the yokai berry. It definitely helped to make reservations ahead of time as the schedule was fully booked on a Friday night. And we had plenty of time to make it to our karaoke reservation!
What was good about the food was quickly erased by the overwhelming, oppressive noise of the restaurant and the robotic service. We could not hear each other across and could not have to have a conversation without shouting. Portions were small and prices were large.
Great food and atmosphere; I was a little disappointed because I was asked twice if it was a special occasion and told them it was my fiance's birthday but there was nothing done to honor it. Which normally is fine, but if you ask I assume that means you will acknowledge it.
I wasn't sure what to expect. I thought on the one hand that it would be sushi and on the other hand that it would be more than just sushi. I was correct on both counts. It was sushi extraordinaire! The service was exceptional, mixing my sushi specialties with some dishes from the kitchen. I was completely satisfied and frankly it wasn't as expensive as I expected. Maybe my best meal in Austin since returning in 2015. Highly recommended!
Uchiko is a one shot experience. Overall it is very expensive for single bite servings & I found the flavors to be disappointing. It is definitely not Sushi comfort food & one leaves feeling underfed & somehow dissatisfied. The noise level is a 10 & impossible to hold a conversation without shouting.I would not recommend for an overall pleasant experience.
