Chef Tyson Cole, winner of the 2011 James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Southwest--Thank you Uchi and Uchiko family and friends for your support!

His exciting menu expands on the Japanese tradition with new flavors and influences. Uchi means "house," and like many sushi bars in Japan, Uchi is located in a refurbished old home. Its vibrant design adds a fresh dimension to the neighborhood and has been warmly received by Austin's diverse dining crowd. Uchi accepts a very limited number of reservations and reserves the majority of the dining room for walk-in availability. Most seating is done on a first-come, first-serve basis. Uchi Ratings and Reviews
The food was delicious. The happy hour specials were a very good deal, especially the sake! We had a mix of the happy hour offerings, daily specials, and regular menu options. Very unique and interesting flavors. I didn't really feel that the most expensive dishes were necessarily better than many of the less expensive options. Great spot for a special occasion dinner!
I wanted to impress my gf and oh did Uchi help and did its job. I had such a pleasant experience here starting from waiting to be seated to taking that last bit of dessert.
I had the signature tasting and let the waitress do her thing. I think that is the best way to enjoy the true form of Uchi. She made it so comfortable to be at the table, so down to earth and gave us the best dishes to our likings. If I am going to boast a plate I am going to go with the brussel sprouts all the dishes are extraordinary but the brussel sprouts in a sweet and tangy glaze, oven-roasted and crispy. They take your taste buds to another level.
Overall, I was more than happy with what Uchi offered and made my gf and I feel so passionate. My gf was more than impressed with our evening, she fell in love with the night. To top it off the waitress gave us a $25 gift card to come back.
In my humble opinion, hands down the best restaurant in Austin and maybe in TEXAS!!! Consistently great quality and attention to detail. Small tasting plates available from 5 to 6 ish is a great way to sample the cuisine and a bargain also. Always on top of their game!!!!!
This restaurant never ceases to amaze me. The food is so creative and so beautifully presented. The wait staff is great and so knowledgable. Truly the only downside is the noise level. Hard to have a conversation. I personally find it distracting and not the nurturing experience I seek when I spend a lot on a fancy meal. I guess that is odd these days?!?
We had a great time at Uchi! Our server John made great recommendations since neither my girlfriend or myself had ever eaten there before. He matched up several dishes to the Cabernate we were sharing and it tasted wonderful. It was a little noisy but it was also completely full. We both highly recommend Uchi if you are looking for a more traditional sushi experience with great service and amazing food.
Uchi was simply a culinary revelation...just about everything we tried from their unique and creative menu was a delight to the palette. Best foodie experience by far that we have experienced after several trips through Austin! Plus genuinely caring service and relative value for such superb cuisine makes for an absolute winner all around!
No visit to Austin is complete without a visit to Uchi or Uchiko. Dinner at Uchi this time was the best ever - tantalizing variety of flavors and textures, perfect pacing by our friendly and knowledgeable waiter (John, a 13-year veteran here), fresh and innovative dishes all added up to a spectacular meal. The yellowtail on crispy yucca chips is a must try!
Great food but poor service this time. Didn't get drinks, server kept forgetting things like forks and our rice, asked for regular water and got sparkling water by mistake and it didn't get changed, took forever to get bill. Must have been an off night for our server but glad the food was good.
We ordered the Chef courses and I expected to be very surprised, but instead I got very disappointed with the service, the food selection and the taste. I have had better sushi and seafood in other places that really caught my eye and tongue. I thought I was siting in the best place in Austin but after eating I felt like scammed. I do t think I'll go back, if I'm the one to choose, however my wife liked it.
We arrived at our reservation time and were seated promptly. If you are coming to this restaurant (no matter what day of the week) MAKE A RESERVATION! There were people waiting to be seated (with no reservation) for over an hour and a half. Food was great as always!!!!
All I can say is that I remain amazed every time I eat here. Today I got to eat the chefs tasting and it was spectacular!!! In addition to the amazing service and the amazing food, I got to sit next to Damian Marley and The Gong who performed with Jay Z at ACL tonight! Such a fun experience and the business partners loved the dinner!
