Chef Tyson Cole, winner of the 2011 James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Southwest--Thank you Uchi and Uchiko family and friends for your support!
Uchi showcases the culinary talents of executive chef and sushi master Tyson Cole, winner of the "best new chef in America 2005" by Food and Wine magazine. His exciting menu expands on the Japanese tradition with new flavors and influences. Uchi means "house," and like many sushi bars in Japan, Uchi is located in a refurbished old home. Its vibrant design adds a fresh dimension to the neighborhood and has been warmly received by Austin's diverse dining crowd.
Uchi accepts a very limited number of reservations and reserves the majority of the dining room for walk-in availability. Most seating is done on a first-come, first-serve basis. All parties must be complete before being seated.
BEST MEAL EVER. Incredible service.
Everything was great!
overall, it was a very condescending experience. i hadn't been there in years, but i don't recall feeling as uncomfortable as I did on Wednesday. not sure if I'll be back.
I was disappointed with how the service was poor and slow. The fish wasn’t that fresh. They got my order wrong. Highly disappointed.
Uchi never fails to disappoint. It is one of the most delicious sushi places on the planet, I’m sure. So lucky to have it in Austin.
I’ve been to Uchi dozens of times, I’d say I’m a quasi regular and there is just not a better sushi place in Austin. Seriously the best in town. Tonight the food was delicious as usual! We sat at the sushi bar and our sushi chef was not the friendliest nor on top of things as I’ve come to expect. It was a Monday night and yes the were busy, as usual, but our chef was barely cordial and the timing of our food was significantly delayed and cumbersome.
Maybe they’ve had a lot of turnover, maybe they just had an off night? Not sure but it was really disappointing!
Best quality sushi
All of the food we had was un-seasoned and bland, along with the worst Wagyu beef I've ever had.
The only upside was the valet; they were hella cool.
The most amazing sushi and experience. Truly an individualized dinner created by recommendations from our waiter.
David, our waiter, was exceptional!! Loved the whole experience!! Ten thumbs up 😂😂💯💯!!
The food was good, but not great in my opinion. I wanted to love this place, but was underwhelmed.
A terrible evening at Uchi. The service was sub-par and the food came out in drips and drabs — 4 hungry people bent down around 1 small plate at a time, with vast gaps between. The dishes were lackluster and even the coffee was not drinkable. Very disappointing, especially on my birthday evening with my family.
Uchi serves high quality, delicious, creative food. It is wonderful to find foie gras and uni on the menu. However, it is very pricy. and most dishes are overpriced.
Really great, unique menu items. Awesome service. A little loud but not too uncomfortable.
Uchi was a wonderful experience! We sat at the sushi counter and asked our chef Rudy to choose our meal for us and for Heather to choose our drinks. It was a wonderful, thoughtful and delicious meal at every turn. Can't wait to return.
Usually a good experience here but it was pretty bad this time. Food took forever, waiter ignored us and the noise level was actually painful.
Really good, amazing food and great service. Vegetarian food was also very good. Overall very nice experience
Really unique and tasty food. Portions are small, which can drive the price up as you add to the order.
The level of attention from the wait staff was impeccable. All the food brought out from the tasting menu were delicious.
Great food and service. 72 hour short rib is a must.
We both thought this might be the best meal we’ve ever had. You guys were really on your game, and the service was amazing. Thank you!!
I enjoyed our server telling us about the food and sake. Her recommendations were very helpful as well!
Service 5 stars. Food better than expected as well as quality
We had a great evening at Uchi!
Uchi is a really nice place for a great Japanese dinner. I’ve been to many times over the years when visiting Austin. Now that I’m full-time here, this will be a regular spot for a top-notch sushi outing. This time, the family all had the 10-course omakase, and this was the best experience by far. The progression was great: I won’t order again (though you can - and we did - add some favorites like the trumpet mushrooms}. The highlights (and there were many) were the starting oyster with watermelon (which was a terrific play on summertime flavors); the kanpachi crudo with fried leeks; and the loup de mer with tomatoes and lemongrass. As always, Uchi has friendly and upbeat service and an energetic room makes Uchi a great night out.
Everything about the dinning was lovely but it was way too loud and I couldn’t even talk to my date. No fault of the staff but would have been kind of staff would have been more attentive to the noise level and offered other seating
Amazing food and service. 5 stars all around.
Wow! We ate here with my brother-in-law and his wife to celebrate my 40th birthday and what a fun and fantastic experience. The atmosphere is super chic and cool, a great vibe—good lighting, decor and comfortable seating. The service was also great, but the food was the real show stopper. Definitely sample some of the sushi and sashimi, probably the freshest fish I’ve ever had. I highly recommend!
If you don't mind lack of light, lots of background noise and slow service, this is your place ! Unfortunately it didn't work out for me !!
One of the best restaurants in Austin. Outstanding cuisine and service. We put the menu's away and let the server direct our food choices. He delivered a world class dining experience with wide variety of flavor choices for the palate.
Uchi offers delicious dishes that are perfectly presented with a staff of friendly and professional individuals. A great experience!
No Birthday anything, sushi was served hot of all things, totally unremarkable compared to hype
My friend who lives in Austin recommended it as one of her favorite places . So we decided to go when I visited . It was delicious . We had the chef’s tasting, everything that came out was full of flavor. I didn’t leave hungry.
Some of the best food I've had ever in Austin!
I will definitely go back for more....
Celebrating a birthday with “all the best things” - Uchi is a must-taste for anyone who remotely likes sushi. You’ll be ruined for life! 🤩 We ❤️ cold, unfiltered saki, edamame, Hama chili, tuna sashimi (truly melts in your mouth), hot rock, and gyutoro. Save room for specials and don’t miss dessert. Thanks for being delicious, Tyson & team!!
Hands down amazing experience for hubby’s bday. Everything was top notch.
I would with the caveat to not order the chef's tasting without asking detailed questions and the price. We were a party of 4 with a few extra additions and our bill was $650. Some of the items were flavorful but most were pretty bland. I would order off menu next time.
One of the best Sushi Restaurants that I have been to.
