Uchi Ratings and Reviews
It was my first time at Uchi and it was so delicious. The food was great-- the only thing we had qualms about was a roll that came with a chile aioli that tasted like mayonnaise. It was a bit disappointing. Also, it is a bit loud in there and I wasn't really able to hear my date that well. Our hostess was wonderful and I would come back here again.
This was by far the most consistently excellent meal we've had in Austin all the years we've lived there. Our server, was phenomenal and ordered us perfect dishes to go with our inclinations that night. Definitely a meal for special occasions, but it absolutely wowed us.
Everything we ate was absolutely delicious. It was the first time I had been and was celebrating my birthday. The server offered fabulous dish options and wine pairings. The only thing that surprised me was no obligatory "birthday dessert" or anything of that nature. Typically, most restaurants, knowing of the special occasion, will present a dessert to add to the celebration. All in all, everything was absolutely wonderful.
This was a birthday dinner for my fiancee and our last celebration before our wedding. This was also our first time at Uchi and an extra special occasion for us. We let our server John pick our entire meal and wine so that we could try new things. Everything was perfect. So many amazing flavors and the service was excellent. We can't wait to go back!
The most over-hyped, over-rated restaurant in Texas, Uchi is smoke and mirrors.
The noise level is beyond comprehension.
The tasting menu is absurd with one tiny serving in one dish set in the middle of the table for each course. - $100 for five minescule portions of food plus a dessert. Two people then make a mess of the beautiful presentations as they both eat from the same bowl, dripping food bits and sauce across the table.
So many servers, bussers, sweepers, to serve so many people with so many dishes and the place is like a freeway with no respite from the constant stream of people up and down the aisles.
The only way to preserve some sense of dining pleasure is to sit at the sushi bar where you are close enough to your dining partner to carry on a conversation, the ceiling is low enough to provide decent acoustics, you are not involved in the traffic pattern, and there is not a delay between courses.
We had been told by numerous people that we HAD to try Uchi...with that, we went in feeling that it had been oversold. How could Texas sushi be THAT good?? Our expectations were shot through the roof. Uchi was amazing. Fantastic selection of vibrant, fresh, and delicious offerings. Our service was outstanding. The service staff works as a team to make sure your experience is notable. Staff was very knowledgeable & prepared with excellent suggestions & pairings. We will definitely be returning soon!
Uchi May be my favorite restaurant and I eat out all the time. Don’t go expecting to leave feeling like you over ate. Go to try new flavors and taste a multitude of new things! The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I gave a 4 for ambiance only because I think it is a little too dark. I can’t encourage you enough to try it!
We opted for the 10-course tasting menu — worth every penny! Every plate was phenomenal and exceeded my expectations. The standouts: Kinoko Nabe, Hirame Usuzukuri, Walu Walu, and Uchi Salad. I would also recommend the Demon Slayer sake to wash everything down. Our server, Julia, was perfect and incredibly entertaining. In short, I loved every moment of this dining experience!
made a reservation for my boyfriend and I️ for our anniversary. They went above and beyond. They had champagne waiting for us at the sushi bar. We did the signature tasting. Every bite was better than the one before I️t. I️ think I️ had an epiphany while eating. I️t was beautiful down to the very last bite. Thanks UChi for making our anniversary trip to Austin truly special.
The food was delicious. The happy hour specials were a very good deal, especially the sake! We had a mix of the happy hour offerings, daily specials, and regular menu options. Very unique and interesting flavors. I didn't really feel that the most expensive dishes were necessarily better than many of the less expensive options. Great spot for a special occasion dinner!
I wanted to impress my gf and oh did Uchi help and did its job. I had such a pleasant experience here starting from waiting to be seated to taking that last bit of dessert.
I had the signature tasting and let the waitress do her thing. I think that is the best way to enjoy the true form of Uchi. She made it so comfortable to be at the table, so down to earth and gave us the best dishes to our likings. If I am going to boast a plate I am going to go with the brussel sprouts all the dishes are extraordinary but the brussel sprouts in a sweet and tangy glaze, oven-roasted and crispy. They take your taste buds to another level.
Overall, I was more than happy with what Uchi offered and made my gf and I feel so passionate. My gf was more than impressed with our evening, she fell in love with the night. To top it off the waitress gave us a $25 gift card to come back.
