Chef Tyson Cole, winner of the 2011 James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Southwest--Thank you Uchi and Uchiko family and friends for your support!
Uchi showcases the culinary talents of executive chef and sushi master Tyson Cole, winner of the "best new chef in America 2005" by Food and Wine magazine. His exciting menu expands on the Japanese tradition with new flavors and influences. Uchi means "house," and like many sushi bars in Japan, Uchi is located in a refurbished old home. Its vibrant design adds a fresh dimension to the neighborhood and has been warmly received by Austin's diverse dining crowd.
Uchi accepts a very limited number of reservations and reserves the majority of the dining room for walk-in availability. Most seating is done on a first-come, first-serve basis. All parties must be complete before being seated.
What Insiders Are Saying
An adventurous Japanese restaurant we love so much we'd consider buying property nearby.
Enjoyed food and service very much. Just make sure to make a reservation. Perfect for special occasions. Will definitely go there again to try more items.
Omg it was so wonderful. My friends first time going and it lived up to the hype.
It’s so much fun and such a wonderful experience every time
Truly an orgasmic dining experience. Flavors, textures, service - all were impeccable. I only wish it could have been quieter. Perhaps we will try a booth next time.
Always our first choice of restaurant went we visit Austin
Uchi lives up to its reputation. The food, service and atmosphere made it an experience to remember. The next day, my partner commented on how he kept reliving every bite.
Our server, Anya, was so gracious and knowledgeable. She timed our orders out perfectly and shared suggestions on what to eat next based on our feedback from what we had already tried.
Uchi was the experience of a lifetime and we thank you!
This was our first time eating at Uchi and we loved it. My husband and I said it would be our new date night spot!
We always celebrate our Birthdays here.....Uchi is always sure to impress. Its also a very fun food experience!!!
Great date spot
Probably my 10th visit to Uchi and it did not disappoint. Eternal favorites like the Hama Chili, Wagyu Tartare, Suzuki Yaki were as good as always. Tried a lot of the cold appetizers from the daily specials menu and those were fantastic as well. Finally, the dessert was to die for - we went with the server recommended coconut sorbet
My husband and I went for our anniversary dinner and everything was amazing. Food was delicious. Staff was outstanding. Thank you Uchi!
A favorite spot anytime.
Always great food, and excellent service. One of my favorites, for sure!
Came here for my husband's 30th birthday. Molly was our server and a real pro. She knew the menu, had excellent recommendations and took great care of us.
Went during Happy Hour so we could take advantage of those sweet deals!
Amazing, and they made it such a special night for my wifes bday
Wonderful evening, drinks, service, Omakase. Fantastic!
We love Uchi so! We had excellent service with a smile, and even a complimentary desert. We had a $25.00 gift card, so we passed that on to our sweet, lovely server :)!
Wonderful experience. Well worth the wait of getting a reservation. It had been 15 years since I was here last and its only gotten better with time. Looking forward to my next visit.
Uchi has never failed on great food, great service and great atmosphere. Always an amazing experience!
Amazing. Live for this place.
Awesome place, great food and great service.
Amazing food and service! The real deal!!
Great experience as always. Awesome service, super tasty and unique bites, and it’s Uchi!!! Nuff said.
The food is always spectacular and our server John, makes the dining experience extra special every time! Our all time favorite restaurant in Austin!! Loved it!
This was our 3rd visit. Food was amazing. We asked our wonderful waitress to choose our dinner. Perfect. And she was also amazing. We will be back.
Awesome. Wanted to come for years. Worth the wait.
We let our waiter choose our dishes and he didn’t disappoint. Great experience!
Fantastic!!! Best place in Austin.
Immaculate and transcendent, truly remarkable for anyone who appreciates good and unique food
The best food!!!
I was very disappointed with my experience at Uchi. It was my husband's birthday dinner for the two of us and I really wanted to give him a great experience. We opted for the chef tasting, and from what I have heard from a few of my friends, there is usually a wine pairing which was not offered to us. We went ahead and waited at least 45 minutes to receive our first course which consisted of one piece of fish on one bed of rice for the two of us. I am not sure how that was supposed to work, but it is difficult to share one piece of fish between two people. It then took another 10-15 minutes to get our second and third course which only one was somewhat impressive. We waited another 15 minutes to get the fourth course and by the sixth course, which was ANOTHER single piece of fish on a bed of rice, we were ready to go. We didn't finish our last course and opted to take it home as well as the dessert. I ended up paying $340 without tip, having spent a total of $400 for just the two of us, and I cannot say that it was anywhere near worth it. I did not feel satisfied and I was very disappointed as was my husband and don't feel that I would recommend this to anyone. We have been to Uchiko and although we didn't order the chef tasting, we had an AMAZING experience and would definitely go back there again. I am very disappointed in having spent that much money, seeing as how it was a special occasion and it is not something that I can afford to do on a regular basis. I hope this gets to the right people and hopefully someone will have a much better experience than we did.
Excellent food. Excellent service. Waiter knew the menu. All the servers give you recommendations on which order to eat dishes in and how to eat them. Very good. Great experience.
Uchi is, by far and above, one of the best dining experiences in the United States. The delicious food, the exemplary service, the elegant ambiance - it all adds up to my highest-recommended restaurant.
Our service was outstanding and our server Michael took amazing care of us. We went for our Anniversay Saturday June 22, 2019 and he treated us amazing! He helped make our anniversary one to remember. This was our second time coming to Uchi for our Anniversary and we might make it a tradition and go every year for our anniversary if your service remains as outstanding as it has been these last two times.
Taking one star just for the wait. We ended up getting a table after about 50 minutes of waiting with our two year old. The edamame they offered was given away twice to other parties waiting. My husband and I chose the chef special and it did not disappoint! Every dish was amazing. It just seemed like there was confusion and backup in the kitchen that night. We will visit again for sure on our next trip out to Austin. It really was some of the best sushi we have ever had. Thanks!
Wonderful food. Expensive but worth it for a special occasion.
Had a great meal! Our server, Michael, had some awesome selections for us. We were able to relax, eat, and have a great conversation without being bothered, even with the tables being fairly close together.
Enjoyed our 21st anniversary a tad bit early due to work schedules and UCHI never disappoints. This restaurant holds top score on my favorite list due to unexpected flavors (try the Madai sushi- how they make fish taste better than any lemon cake I’ve ever had is beyond comprehension), not to mention the superior wait staff that I instantly want to include in my inner circle. Thank you for yet again an incredible experience that is worth the wait!
So yummy! We are vegetarian and they always makes us wonderful food! :) Our favorite date night restaurant!
