Chef Tyson Cole, winner of the 2011 James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Southwest--Thank you Uchi and Uchiko family and friends for your support!
Uchi showcases the culinary talents of executive chef and sushi master Tyson Cole, winner of the "best new chef in America 2005" by Food and Wine magazine. His exciting menu expands on the Japanese tradition with new flavors and influences. Uchi means "house," and like many sushi bars in Japan, Uchi is located in a refurbished old home. Its vibrant design adds a fresh dimension to the neighborhood and has been warmly received by Austin's diverse dining crowd.
Uchi accepts a very limited number of reservations and reserves the majority of the dining room for walk-in availability. Most seating is done on a first-come, first-serve basis. All parties must be complete before being seated.
Incredible food, as always, spectacular service as always, birthday celebrations always at UCHI, best times, thank you Nolan
Food and service exceeded expectations. Uchi is a must while visiting Austin.
Visiting from NY and we were blown away! One of the best sushi experiences and flavors we’ve ever had!
Uchi lived up to its impeccable reputation. The service was fantastic, the food was delicious and the overall experience was superb. The shag sushi roll was the absolute best. A must try! The tuna and goat cheese was so creative and delicious! I cannot wait to come back next time I visit atx!
Uchi was good but was disappointing in a couple areas. We waited 45 minutes past our reservation before we were seated and courses were not timed appropriately. Food was good but not overly impressed. Although, I appreciated the servers and hostess were all very knowledgeable about the food.
Roger & Stephanie were amazing. A genuine warmth was felt from the moment I walked through the door. Great to feel that even after all the success.
Incredible, had the vegetarian/ vegan menu and it was insanely good. The staff were so accommodating and friendly. Came here many times before going vegan and didn't think I would ever come back being that it is a sushi restaurant and all, but now I can't wait to go back.
Outstanding as always!
Absolutely wonderful experience every time we go there. The sushi is SO fresh and so good.. I wish I could eat it every day.
Wonderful service.. John our server did an excellent job with the recommendations.
Thank you, as always!
Our server forgot one dish and didn’t admit it but was nicer to us after that. I love this place though.
My husband and I love coming to Uchi and frequently visit it as well as Uchiko. We always have great experiences from valet all the way through dessert. Last night was an exception which will be hard to forget. After making a reservation for 5pm, we had to stand in line just to reach the hostess for 15 minutes minutes. We were then asked to wait again for our table. In total, we weren't seated 45 minutes after our reservation.
After requesting two bar seats to celebrate my husband's birthday when I made the reservation as well as when we walked in, I was told by the hostess that she would do her best to seat us at two of the six open seats at the bar. When she finally called our name, she sat us at a high top table in the middle of restaurant which was loud and the least intimate place you could sit when trying to celebrate someone's birthday - please note there were still 4 open seats at the bar. We then asked to move to a quieter book that was available and the hostess agreed, but with a very negative attitude.
I'm not sure what was going on last night, but impressions begin once you enter an establishment and the group of hostesses ruined the dinner and our experience yesterday.
Amazing food and service! Definitely pricey but worth it for the occasional visit.
great for gluten free
Amazing food and amazing service. I would recommend all my friends to try it. I especially liked it due to the vegetarian options. Ask for a vegetarian menu!
After going to Uchi recently on a Saturday night, I prefer the Uchiko on North Lamar. Uchiko has a better ambiance and a more interesting space from an architecture perspective. Uchi fell flat in my opinion. There was nothing new or inventive on the menu. We even ordered multiple dishes from the daily-special menu; they turned out just to be derivative recipes from standard plates, basically substituting one fish for another. I think it is perhaps time for an Uchi revamp... shake up the space and the menu.
Overwhelmed by what to choose? Let the chef choose for you! The tasting menu never fails to disappoint. The quality of the sushi is unmatched. Wonderful restaurant!
Amazing! We come to Uchi for all bdays and big celebrations and it never disappoints. Best sushi hands down
I live in Chicago but have family in Austin. I’ve been here twice. It’s definitely a five star. Service and food were perfect. It was packed at 5:30 so make a reservation.
One of the best meals I’ve ever had. Don’t pass this place up.
Love sister restaurant Uchiko. Was excited to try Uchi. Was not disappointed!
Took my son for his birthday and it was perfection! We did the Chef’s menu and discovered a whole new world! Can’t recommend it highly enough.
Truly outstanding experience as usual. John was spot on with his recommendations!
Amazing service, great food.
This is, hands down, THE best place to eat in Austin. Everything on the menu will leave you saying...wow. Coming from a person who hates most seafood...this is a standing ovation
Uchi's food and customer service are amazing! They go above and beyond for an exceptional experience every time!
The food was delicious as always, but they had unfortunately run out of several items on the menu that we wanted to order.
Great service, food was great but a little slow to come out. We were starving mid way through. Overall great experience, it's really busy so make sure to make a reservation.
This restaurant is absolutely amazing! We had the BEST time. The food was the most delicious food we have ever had and the service was wonderful. I would highly recommend Uchi to anyone who loves amazing food. We will definitely be back in the future!
Amazing experience because of the food and service. The food was just as good as you want it to be and our server Nicolette was amazing. Can’t wait to come back!
Definitely good food, cold sake was not placed in an ice bucket until requested which is unusual. Too dark to read the menus but again the food was excellent.
Amazing as always. Our favorite restaurant in Austin, great food every time. The service is top notch and the menu always has something unique and new.
This was an amazing experience. This was the first time to Uchi and it will not be the last. From the moment you walk in the door, you realize this isn’t a normal sushi restaurant. The fish was so fresh, the beef was so tender. The service was incredible and so detail oriented. This was the best overall experience I have had in Austin.
Good was phenomenal!! Had a reservation on a Sunday night @9, wasn’t seated until 9:40. We were hangry BUT the server made it up to us and at the end of the day it was one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. Fabulous!
Birthday dinner! We did the chef’s tasting menu and it was delicious from start to finish!
What an experience!
Outstanding overall experience. Definitely pricey, but worth every penny. Modified the 2 person 10 course omakase for three people and spoiled my friend for her birthday. Really lovely experience.
Expensive and only for very special occasions considering the medium value for money experience
Our service was outstanding.
