Chef Tyson Cole, winner of the 2011 James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Southwest--Thank you Uchi and Uchiko family and friends for your support!
Uchi showcases the culinary talents of executive chef and sushi master Tyson Cole, winner of the "best new chef in America 2005" by Food and Wine magazine. His exciting menu expands on the Japanese tradition with new flavors and influences. Uchi means "house," and like many sushi bars in Japan, Uchi is located in a refurbished old home. Its vibrant design adds a fresh dimension to the neighborhood and has been warmly received by Austin's diverse dining crowd.
Uchi accepts a very limited number of reservations and reserves the majority of the dining room for walk-in availability. Most seating is done on a first-come, first-serve basis. All parties must be complete before being seated.
Truly a unique dining experience from start to finish!
This place never disappoints!
The food was amazing
The only disappointment was how long our rolls took and there wasn’t a sense of urgency from staff.
Great experience there with friendly staff. Went there for a birthday dinner. Food was phenomenal. Only feedback is give a better breakdown of how the dishes are set up/how to best order
Beautiful atmosphere and delicious food. Always a great experience.
Uchi helped make our anniversary something really special. The food was incredible and the service was perfect.
Everything was absolutely fantastic. Food was unbelievable. Service was exceptional. This restaurant is worth traveling for. We’ll be back.
Good food. I really recommend the happy hour menu.
Everything was top notch, as usual! I don't need 50 characters
Table was ready on time shortly after we arrived and was greeted with great energy. Our server Sam was great keep us updated on our sushi orders and ensures everything was prepare as requested.
Taking someone to Uchi for the first time is always a treat. The look on their face when they realize they just had the best dish of their life over and over throughout the meal is priceless.
I usually follow that up by saying, “it’s okay to tell people you had the best sushi of their life in Texas” also said that when I took a person in Denver.
Some excellent dishes and options such as the sea trout belly. Numerous dishes need to be toned down. Perhaps my server was too optimistic. Putting harsh flavors together as haute cuisine.. isn't.
I live in Japan and I always enjoy eating at Japanese restaurants in the US to see how they interpret the Japanese cuisine. Uchi is one of the most innovative. I was so impressed with all of the waitresses who knew all about the ingredients and could explain of all the dishes. It was the best meal I had in my 10 days in America and it was so reasonable. Compliments to the chef and entire staff.
Best restaurant I’ve ever been to and I’ve traveled to many other countries just for food. It’s 10/10 INCREDIBLE
This has immediately jumped into one of my top 5 restaurants. The abundance of food and beverage options was phenomenal and the quality was much higher than anticipated.
To top off the entire meal and night... the quality of service and knowledge of the staff was impeccable. Truly made the entire experience jump to one of the top dining experiences we have ever had. Also, definitely an important factor to our experience, Lauren (our server) is highly recommended to anyone. We would definitely ask to be seated in her section upon returning.
Great food. Pricey. Service was great.
Food runner was phenomenal
Server was gracious and knowledgeable
Food was amazing
My husband and I dine at Uchi whenever we are in Austin - and it’s always fabulous. This time was no exception. We shared a number of dishes, and they were all delicious. Friendly, knowledgeable service. Highly recommend
The experience was merely okay. The food itself is not bad and in some cases it's pretty good but just not exceptional as the prices would give you reason to believe. If they are going to charge that much for most of their items then it had better be either "knock your socks off" and understandably served in tiny portions OR "memorable" but in a slightly more generous portion....It was neither as the portions were absurdly small and nothing really noteworthy. To make matters worse, not once through the whole affair did any of the staff bother to ask how we were doing or what we thought of any of what we were served. Unfortunately, there were also many other examples of lackluster service...too many to list here. Maybe they no longer feel the need to care or check in. I cannot recommend this place.
Always amazing and never disappoints. This is one of our favorite spots, only wish we could get there more often!
Phenomenal experience. Superb service, but OH, the FOOD! Had 10 courses (not the chef selections but ones we picked ourselves) and every one was OUTSTANDING. One of the Top 10 meals ever had. Loved it all!
Uchi has been the Gold Standard in Austin so long sometimes we forget to dine there. We are never disappointed when we do though. Our server Brittany was new to our Uchi experiences, she has an awesome personality and is an excellent server!
It was our first time and we enjoyed the food very much
We love Rudy! Amazing care went into our meal. A truly wonderful experience. We went 2 nights in a row.
Fantastic food, great service, nice ambiance. Not cheap but worth it
Freshest fish in all of Austin. Small portions and overpriced but still has the freshest fish!
We went to Austin for our Anniversary. I was hyped about this restaurant as I had read great reviews everyone was talking about to, but we were quite disappointed. The food was mediocre, not filling at all. We got the signature tasting we didn’t know the size because the server wasn’t the best at explaining anything. She should have asked us how hungry we were because it was 6 small dishes shared amongst 2 of us. The food is ok but not the best I’ve had for sure! I’ve had better and so the hype kinda confused me. It’s an average restaurant with good decent food and mediocre service. Won’t be back there are too many other options. We were still hungry when we left & I absolutely hate that feeling after spending $150.
Delicious. Wanted to go for years, glad I made it. Our server was lovely.
Always amazing. Always delicious. And always the best meal we’ve ever eaten. You can never go and have the same experience twice. But you can always count on it being Phenomenal!!!
One of the most amazing sushi dinners ever. The unique presentation and flavors made it an experience well never forget. Our server was absolutely amazing as well and made numerous delicious recommendations. Would definitely recommend Uchi to anyone in Austin.
Best sushi, and service experience: since Moving to Austin.. Possibly ever! 5Stars++ Good job team Uchi
The food was absolutely amazing. Chef tasting menu is a great great option!
Great food. The happy hour value is pretty good
BEST MEAL EVER. Incredible service.
Everything was great!
overall, it was a very condescending experience. i hadn't been there in years, but i don't recall feeling as uncomfortable as I did on Wednesday. not sure if I'll be back.
I was disappointed with how the service was poor and slow. The fish wasn’t that fresh. They got my order wrong. Highly disappointed.
