This is the best sushi in Houston.
Great staff and great food. Our server was very patient and helped us order. One of my all time favorite dining experiences!
We absolutely love Uchi and we visit as often as we can. We almost always have the most amazing service. This particular time we did not. Our waiter was obviously not in the mood to joke around with us as we learned in the first few minutes from his cold demeanor. Then, we barely saw him but maybe twice more the rest of the evening. It was fairly disappointing, as we almost always have stellar service. We will probably just request one of our favorite servers in the future. It definitely will not deter us from coming back.
The fatty tuna and tako (sp?) were incredible, and our server Matt was very knowledgeable and willing to help us select some adventurous items. Uchi is definitely not an every-day restaurant (unless price is no object), but it's a great spot for a special occasion.
Fave restaurant in Houston. Dining with 4 is not inexpensive, therefore, tends to be a special occasion place for us.
Food was fantastic... the Yellow-jack was unbelievable!!! This restaurant is extremely hard to get a reservation... forget Friday and Saturday nights unless you make your reservations 3 weeks out... service was great, staff is on top of you throughout your entire meal.... Kudos!!!
I would only recommend going to Uchi for the happy hour menu which is from 5-6:30PM.
This was a dinner for my bride-to-be and her sister, who flew in from Hong Kong for the wedding. They were made to feel very special and raved about the service. Thank you for making it a wonderful and memorable evening.
Great food and ambiance! However, they don't bring all the orders together to the table. They bring the food as soon as it's made to each person who ordered it. Good for sharing your food. The portions are small, delicious and creative though!
Tremendous Service and food...beyond a 5 star rating.
I go to Uchi about once a month and it never disappoints. You wouldn’t think vegetarian and sushi would be a great match but Uchi does it right! Kari Kuri (sp?)Shag roll. Pitchfork roll. Veggie Brussels sprouts. Fried milk. You’re welcome.
Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Amazingly creative dishes. Had a great experience!
We went for my husband’s birthday dinner. Yes, it was a huge splurge financially but we went all out and tip our WONDERFUL server, Lori, generously. We got the Signature Omakase in addition to a few pre- and post- samples plus Lori gave us a couple extra tastes. Everything was scrumptious and lived up to the rave reviews. You can’t go wrong. Yes, you willl drop some coin but it’s an experience you’ll remember. We LOVED the mussels, the short rib, the Brussels sprouts and you MUST (absolutely MUST) get the fried milk for dessert! Ask for Lori to be your server. We eat sushi plenty but she was very knowledgeable and on it! Various staff brought various dishes and they were all great and my husband got random “happy birthday” wishes from each person who came to the table. Spend the money!
The very best and most creative sushi and sashimi in Houston.
Great food, as it always has been! I have never been disappointed.
Outstanding and original contemporary Japanese. A highlight of Houston culinary scene.
The waitor, Kyle, and food was awesome! Very friendly staff and did a great job developing and delivering our meal. The explained every dish that they brought out. Nice mix of foods.
Unbelievable on all levels.
We had a reservation and sat 25 min. Late!!
Saturday, March 3
This was a good place for a date, once we figured out what was on the menu and how it worked, we did get an almost comical amount of instruction on how to eat our food.
Great as always!
I had eaten at the restaurant in Austin but never in Houston and was worried about how it would be. Did more than met my expectations, it blew them away. Remarkable dining experience and will be back every time I’m in Houston.
Great food, great drinks, great service. Patrick was amazing and made our night super special. We had such a great time and will go back again.
Still the best sushi in Houston! Dined with out of state friends who had lived in Japan and it was the best sushi they ever had.
Uchi never disappoints. Service is always amazing. When they found out we were celebrating a birthday they brought out a special dish. Wait staff are very attentive and food is always top notch. One of my favorite restaurants and I will keep going back.
What a great menu and experience. The food was outstanding and our server was very helpful in walking us through the menu and the meal.
I’ll be back for certain!
The food was delicious. A little bit more quiet than other Uchi locations but service and food is outstanding.
Quote from my father “if I died right now I would be quite alright!”
Always a delicious experience! The quality, presentation and taste on point each time!
Great experience all around.
I love coming to Uchi for special occasions. My husband and I love the menu and drink options. Never disappointed, ever. Thank you! (Ps. the foie gras nigiri is amazing!!!)
We had a reservation for an early dinner and were seated immediately. It was our first time to dine at uchi and told this to our server. She was friendly, knowledgeable and did an excellent job making recommendations. Everything we had was delicious and we tried many different things from all areas if the menu. The happy hour specials were very reasonable and delicious. There is only beer, wine and saki with a few wine cocktails. We enjoyed the special attention given to the food when delivered to our table. All servers were very knowledgeable.
We went there with Business associates after the Rodeo the other night. I had made the reservation the night before on a recommendation from a friend and they only had a late reservation. It was meant to be, as we got some tickets to the Rodeo and had an awesome time before we went to eat.
Our appetites were worked up and after ordering some initial personal favorites for the table, I asked the server to just bring us some favorites and some personal recommendations until we were ready. She accommodated this very well and we loved everything. It was all eaten and all enjoyed, nothing was wasted. She was very responsive and the food was exceptional. A great evening facilitated by greet service and of course greet food and atmosphere.
Our dinner was wonderful! Anthony, our waiter, was awesome! We asked him for recommendations on what to order and he directed the most amazing meal my wife and I have ever had! We will definitely visit Uchi again!
Insulting service—I took clients here and here’s how it went. Checked in to host stand—No offer of anything except to wait until final guest arrived. Ordered drinks and stood at the door waiting until I was frustrated and asked if I could wait at the bar. That was allowed “they forgot to ask me...” How do you not notice your guests standing in front of you? Sat at bar and asked a bartender to explain an item on the menu..”it’s fish...” I looked at him and chuckled waiting for the punchline. Another server standing near him laughed. Really?! Is my question not good enough?! When pressed, he finally explained as Little as possible and offered no help or guidance.
We are seated at our table. Waiter asks how many guests are dining and I explain that all are present but that there may be one more guest that joins us midway. But that we would continue regardless. Waiter says, ok but I have to start the time and there’s a 2-hour limit. Ok, I get it, but who says that? Maybe wait for the table to start ordering and feel it out. Don’t start dinner by telling me when I have to leave. Classless.
I frequently take clients to dinner (nice places) in Houston and this one was such a let down. Had I not been in front of clients I would have been more than happy to give feedback on the spot. Uchi isn’t cheap and should offer a far better experience. It’s as if their staff think their celebs for working under Uchi label. Not cool.
Uchi is one of the few restaurants I would give 5 five stars. It is absolutely superb, with an excellent HH, where they actually permit you to sit at a table that’s not in the bar! It’s not just the HH though, it’s the well trained staff and servers who all try to make your experience, well, an experience, not just a meal. It is a cool space beautifully appointed in spare Asian detail. The wine list is well curated and includes a wide array of sakes.
Oh yes, and the food, it is just so wonderful! I can’t even say where to start. We began to order our first bites from the HH menu and as we devoured each dish we ordered more. Everything was just beautiful, too. Well presented, delicious and just enough to make you want more. Just to run down a few items—the Walu, the avocado maki, eggplant, crudo, and escolar, crunchy tuna, salmon, and so many more—-elegant and delectable, each bite. We ordered from both daily specials menu and HH and were not disappointed. Washing this down with their lovely rose champagne which is a steal—made it that much better. I would even venture to say non sushi eaters might actually break down and eat Uchi’s fantastic food. The one dessert not to miss is the fried milk which sounds strange but is most delicious. We have eaten their Prix fix menu, HH, and their daily specials more than 1/2 dozen times, and each time it has been better than the last. It really is a feat when a restaurant can do this day in day out. Bravo! If you haven’t been—treat yourself. It is worth it!
Food was good though a little limited. The server himself was good though I felt the other servers came to our tables and asked us how we we're doing and all around checking in us more often than our server. We only saw him 4x during our me. 2x to irder, once for dessert and once for the check. I do love a few if the dishes here but the service was amazing and rivals that if Roka Akor though the menu at Uchi is limited and I wish there were a few more things to try. After our 3rd time here I felt I've tried everything in the menu. Happy hour is probably what I'll stick to from now on.
Awesome food, amazing service
An amazing experience! Tasting menu was nothing we’ve ever had before. My better half and I settled for the 10 course and each dish was superb. Must tries for us were the Foie Gras, the Short Rib, Hama Chili, and the Fried Milk. Definitely the Fried Milk!
Excellent food and very attentive service. I would definitely go back.
