I would recommend Uchi for the food and service - as the food was great and our server was great, however, I would not recommend using OpenTable. Policy states reservations are honored up to 15 after the reservation time, however, my complete party arrived 10 minutes after the reservation time, however, it almost took 30 minutes to get seated. We had another event to attend after dinner which we were late for, as we were celebrating a birthday with family. Not only was it embarrassing having my party wait 30 minutes to get seated (when I reassured them we had reservations), it was pointless using OpenTable as were seated 30 minutes after the reservation time. I will likely not use OpenTable again nor recommend using this service.

Our waitress was great and we gave her free rein to pick stuff for us and bring it out. Everything that she put in front of us was great, not a single thing we did not love. Will definitely be back.

Our waiter John was incredible - described every dish clearly but eloquently and gave us a perfect date night out! We did the tasting menu - SO worth it and we can't wait to go back. The sake was also great- John brought two to taste based on what I liked and the cucumber chili yuzu cocktail was so refreshing! That plus a couple other surprises from John were great and we are excited to take our friends there and go back soon!!

Wonderful food pricey but worth it wish the restaurant wasn’t as loud! A couple of veggie dishes on the tasting menu would have been nice all fish with one beef on the ten course missed the Brussels sprouts!! Service was fine on a busy Saturday nite

Celebrating our daughter’s birthday at the sushi bar—Bigler-San and his team took wonderful care of us and made it extra special. The food—what can I say, everything is an explosion of flavor and complexity. Favorite bite changes each visit. We always LOVE our times at a Uchi but this one was even better! Thank you.

I've always considered Uchi my favorite Houston restaurant, but last night it was removed from that status. While the food was excellent, we were frustrated by our waiter, Matt. We asked for a chef's tasting as we always do because we find we get great options we've never tried before. Our waiters are typically excellent by checking in to see if they are picking options we like, asking before they bring out anything exotic, and checking to see when we were getting full.
At the start, Matt asked if we had any preferences, allergies, etc. which was great, but then he asked if we had any monetary limitations. So how do you answer that? I think that a better way would be to explain the approximate pricing of the different tastings. He said he had encountered problems with others which should have been a hint to us and perhaps a lesson learned for him to be more specific. We are always willing to spend money on a great dinner.
This visit our food came out fast and furious. If you've been here before you know that the servings are delivered individually by various servers. The first dishes were good, but Matt didn't check back to see if we had any suggestions or if we were getting full. I had specifically asked him for the brussels sprouts, but we didn’t get them until I asked someone else for them. At some point we received a dish that was way off from anything we expected nor would have ordered (raw quail eggs and fish roe). That seems like a dish most waiters should have asked about first. Only two of the four of us tried it which means we wasted our money on that dish. At that point we were all very full. I told the next person who served us that we were done but within 2 minutes we had 3 more dishes coming to our table. I told them to take them back. There were four of us, we had 2 bottles of wine and our bill was $600 before tip. The price was fine but our frustration with the waiter was disappointing.

Best sushi ever - extremely creative and unique offerings. Reservations highly recommended, locals stand in line shortly before Uchi opens in hopes of scoring a table. The "mushroom" offering was especially delicious!

We were there for a birthday dinner. Party of 8. Made our reservation over the phone and asked if there’s anything special for birthdays? Was told that it’s up to our waitress. Ok fine! During the whole dinner, I felt the wait staff was very short and rude with me and my company. You would think paying almost $1,000 tab, friendly service would come with our dinner. Disappointed. Don’t think we will be returning.

Uchi is truly a unique and special place in Houston. The quality of the food and the level of craftsmanship is second to none. Everything we tried was incredible and after coming here multiple times I can honestly say it is consistently just as good every single time. Also, if you go do yourself a favor and try the fried chicken and of course the Fried Milk dessert is second to none.

MAKE SURE YOU MAKE YOURSELF CLEAR WHEN ASKING FOR A MENU!!!

We love the food but we went there and asked for the chef choices and they said they would choose the items for us.

At the end they charged us each piece?! What about the chef menu tasting price??

I liked the food but I would never ask or eat some of the plates they send it I know I was paying for each and all of them individually! And a huge tremendous amount !
When I thought it was a tasting menu!

Completely non sense and I am very disappointed. When they asked if we liked a plate or not I thought it was the menu and they don’t care if you like it or not. They just add to the bill!

My dinner guest and I both ate here for the first time recently. We had a fantastic experience from the moment we walked in for our Reservation. After we were seated we had drinks promptly .The atmosphere was very comforting & relaxed .Our Server was fantastic! He made sure we understood the Menu & what each item contained. We absolutely loved everything we tried. Dessert was a terrific way to cap off an amazing dining experience! We'll definitely be back soon!

We were very satisfied with our meal and overall service however I was a little disappointed that I specified on the open table reservation that we were celebrating a birthday and they didn't acknowledge it at all. It would have been exceptional service if they welcomed us and the server acknowledged we were celebrating and if they could have done a candle or even wrote on the dessert that we ordered "happy birthday". I don't see the point of asking when making the reservation if the special occasion was not going to be acknowledged.
