Food is of high quality. It’s not a sushi restaurant. It’s a sushi tapas bar. It is over priced. And the wrong waitress can set you back 150 per person. We spoke to the restaurant manager and he rectified our situation.

I love sushi. I love uchi. I’ve had the opportunity to be at some truly amazing sushi places around the world, I used to live across the street from nobu in Malibu and I’ve been to the best places for sushi in paris, New York, la, London, Hawaii, Cabo, etc. This one is really really amazing

We have visited Uchi at a number of times but have never sat at the sushi bar, we did this time. The start evening was a little awkward because we weren’t sure who to order from and the sushi chef wasn’t overly informative. However, once we spoke up and made introductions the ball got rolling smoothly. We rarely look at the menu and order, we usually tell our waiter (we love Amy) what type of fish we like and flavors and ask them to bring what they recommend out and as we finish plates, bring another. We did this with the sushi chef (don’t know his name because I am hard of hearing and he spoke softly) and he did an amazing job! The food and drink as always was delish and ambiance perfect.

You really can’t make a bad choice at Uchi, but the tasting menus are a great way to experience the variety, creativity and flavor sensations they have to offer. If you’re debating, go for the fried milk dessert.

The staff was fantastic, both polite and accommodating. Initially our reservation was for four people and at the last minute two people had to back out and they were perfectly helpful with adjusting us down to 2. The food was amazing. Every piece of food I tried was exceptional. The walu walu in particular was amazing. The atmosphere is fantastic and the food is perfect. I love this place.

There was way too much grill smoke for a sushi style restaurant. Smelled more like a diner. A big turnoff. The later it for the worse the smoke was.

This is not an everyday dining. We made a reservation for my husband’s birthday. I told the in advance that we will need help ordering dinner. Our waiter Hong was most knowledgeable and he took good care of us. He offered some suggestions, and gave us some excellent items that we didn’t order. We were seated in a nice corner away from the sushi bar.
The dinner was less than two hundred before T&T for the three of us. The food was really good, the waiter was great. Together it was a great memorable special dinner.

I have been to Uchis in 3 cities, and they are all impeccable. The service is phenomenal, the food is top notch, and I always leave satisfied and wanting to come back. I can't pick a favorite item because there are so many wonderful things. I like to just let them bring me whatever they recommend, and I am always impressed. The only downside is that it is expensive, so you need to set expectations accordingly.

Excellent food. Sushi is amazing. Like one shift talk about flavor after flavor type stuff. Not cheap so don’t go if you’re broke. And don’t go if you’re starving because it takes forever to get anything But outside of that pride the best sushi in Houston. One thing I think they should do is maybe add extra roll to the daily specials. Just a suggestion

This was our first visit to this trendy restaurant to celebrate a birthday. The birthday guest in our party was greeted with a ‘happy birthday’ which was nice.
We were seated at a table that had no light bulb. The restaurant was full on a Monday night so there was no chance of being reseated. When we started inquiring if we could get a light bulb, the waiter and manager (?) proceeded to almost discourage that by telling us that the light bulb for that lamp was too bright and brighter than all the others. It was very evident that they didn’t want to ruin the ambience for the rest of their restaurant patrons, but even my 18 year old daughter complained she couldn’t see. They brought the bulb (which was significantly brighter than all the other bulbs) and we kept it.
In addition, one of the items that we ordered was the shag which took over an hour to get to our table. When I asked the waiter what took this particular item so long to get to our table he just brushed over it by saying that there was a backup of orders at that particular station. It would have been nice to know that ahead of time and maybe we could have ordered something else while we were waiting because, unfortunately, that wasn’t a shared item ordered for the table it was one of our entrees.
Our favorite items were the brussel sprouts and the fried milk dessert.
Needless to say we will not be going back.

Went to Uchi to celebrate a career achievement and we could not be happier. We went during happy hour called "Sake Special" and order almost one of every dish to sample the menu. Each dish had incredible depth of flavor and unexpected complementary flavors. Cocktails were some of the most well crafted I have had in Houston. We will definitely return to explore the full menu.

Fantastic Dining Experience at @uchihouston 🍣 I made a reservation on @opentable 3 days in advance for a Friday evening and everything was booked until 10pm, but after trying a few times, I got lucky with a 8pm reservation that suddenly popped open.
.
When we arrived, the front staff was super friendly and gave us an option of waiting 5-10 minutes for a table or 20-30minutes for the sushi bar. Of course, we took the option of waiting for the sushi bar. She kindly escorted us to the back patio where we could order drinks and snacks until our seats were ready. She kept checking in on us to give us an update on the status, which was great.
.
Finally, we were seated at the sushi bar and joyful greeted by our chef. The menu looked fantastic but we decided to trust our sushi chef for our first dining experience. He was knowledgeable and attentive. All he asked us to do was tell him when we were about 80% full and he would order accordingly.

We started off with a hot fish, escolar with a great yuzu sauce. Which was light and great to start out meal off with. Then, one of my favorite of the night, fresh flounder with fried quinoa. It was fresh and the quinoa gave it excellent texture. Next, we moved on to sushi. I only photographed my personal favorites; Uni & Toro. After, a warm tempura battered pumpkin that had an interest texture and flavor. I was surprised. I’ve had my share of fried tempura living in Asia but this was different. Maybe it was the mixture of sesame seeds in the batter. Finally, for dessert, I had the fried milk. It was a delicious! Cold and warm, sweet and savory, light and rich all put together. I loved every bit of it!
.
I’ve heard mix reviews of Uchi Houston and only been to the one in Austin so, contemplated going here but I’m so glad I did. Service (5/5) Ambiance (5/5) Food (5/5) but if I had to rate something negative, it would be the price. It was a bit on the pricey side but worth it for a special occasion and if it’s not on your dime.

The food was amazing! The waiter was so knowledgeable of the food and considerate of our dietary restrictions. We did the Omasake tasting menu and every plate was better than the first. Even the edamame was surprisingly tasty unlike any other basic edamame anywhere else. The seabass was out of this world! I would highly recommend this place and venturing out with the Omasake menu to get a taste of variety of the entire menu.
