Txikito has been doing solid business in Chelsea for several years, serving Basque-style tapas to people who are mostly on dates. How much you'll like it probably depends on how much you're looking to spend.
The service was nice but the food was awful. I said something to the waiter and they apologized but didn't offer a drink or discount which was a shame.
Food is delicious wonderfully imaginative with unique special flavors textures and combinations. Wait staff very knowledgeable and efficient. From small hot plates to cold plates wonderful. The only thing I would say was for our entree, the portion was meager and at a price that it should have been more to have six less than 2" " medallions of lamb for $28 I think is a bit much
My wife is Spanish and this was one of the few times she's really enthusiastic about a place. The restaurant feels cozy and comfortable and the food was fantastic.
One of my favorite restaurants in NYC.
Txikito serves outstanding food! That was one of the nicest meals I have had out in quite a while. I highly recommend it, but beware that the small-plates add up fast!
The menu has a lot of unusual and delicious things. Many/most are tapas sized plates. We had 3 of the specials (meal sized) for the day which were all excellent. Really good. The waiter had good recommendations. The only eye-brow-raising thing was the wine prices. The wine selection was all Spanish/Basque, which was appropriate and they were all good. I just had a bit of sticker shock, with all those small plates, 3 specials and 3 bottles of wine. The atmosphere is nice but nothing fancy. You go here for the food. The manager and staff are proud of what they do and very friendly. Will definitely go back. Very enjoyable evening.
It was a nice place to go on a date. The waitress refills your water frequently, which was very nice. They say reach person needs three to four things but we found that four für two was perfect. The Russian potato salad was amazing, so were the fries.
Have been here many times and I LOVE IT! Amazing food and well priced.
Food was very good, as was the service. The Wine and beer selection was very good and paired well with the food. However, the cocktail list was uninspired and not seasonal.
The room is pretty bare bones. The staff very friendly and helpful with the menus. Wines were good (although we never saw the end of our second bottle...). We tried a bunch of things--the standout was the garlic shrimp. The only disappointment was the whole fish special. Just meh in taste and in presentation.
Txikito is one of my favorite places to eat in NYC. We initially went on a whim because I wanted my daughter to have good tapas. Since then, we go at least once per year (we live about 3.5 hours away). The food is always fantastic and we have had excellent service whenever we have gone. We've been there near opening (5pm) and also near closing (we got there around 9:30). They always have what's on the menu and the specials are fantastic. The Pulpo is a must-try and the roasted cauliflower is too. I wouldn't say that I plan trips to NYC SOLELY to go to Txikito... but it wouldn't be far from the truth either.
Very warm & welcoming staff. Food was excellent.
The restaurant specializes in Basque cuisine. We did a sampling from the small dish menu and found that they were mainly fish-based and tasty.
Ikeragarria!
This is the only restaurant in NYC where I feel like home (as, in the Basque Country).
The food was excellent. The trout special was exceptional, as were the squid ribbons. The basque traditional wine made a great pairing with the food, and our server made a perfect recommendation.
We've been to Txikito several times now and never been disappointed. They offer outstanding tapas, a top flight wine list, and a knowledgeable, friendly and attentive wait staff.
Great meal and great service. Specials were a little pricey, but it was Valentine's Day so I understand. Have been here three times and never had a bad bite.
The food is the most important part of this of course, and the food really was quite good. In particular the roast suckling pig was absolutely fantastic. The my biggest complaint about the places the ambience the tables were incredibly small especially for a tapas restaurant it made no sense. They are basically sitting for people a tattoo top. The server was very helpful and knowledgeable and I have no complaints about that. Overall it's a great restaurant and is worth a look for sure.
The restaurant was simple and has a relaxed atmosphere. The food was creative fresh and delicious. Our server Carlos was attentive and very welcoming. Highly recommend it
Good, reliable, authentic. Not a temple of gastronomy, but certainly very good. A cut above the average NYC Spanish restaurant.
Phenomenal as always. We are locals / regulars and choose Txikito for a special occasion. Even though we only come every few months, they give us our regular table and know our son is hooked on their fries so they get an order in as we sit down.
Love this place. Every person I ask to meet me here winds up obsessed with it too. Great drinks (beer, sangria, cocktails, amazing Spanish wines) and Basque food for sharing, whether you are veg, carnivore, pescatarian. Love the croquetas, the salt cod, meatballs, fries with dip, the suckling pig and all their daily specials.
"Tapas" - very small portions for high prices. Food was decidedly so-so - not great, although desserts were first rate. Very very expensive for what you got. Four of us spent over $200 !!!!! and left hungry.
Go. Order what catches your eye. Drink some wine. Enjoy the people you're with. The food is good and you will be treated well at Txikito.
Charming restaurant, fascinating food, great service. A little pricey when all is said and done, but really enjoyable.
Love this place - probably the best Basque food experience you can have outside the Basque region. Staff and ambiance are phenomenal. Menu is spectacular. Always have a great experience!
Great wine selection, creative dishes, solid choice!
Had a wonderful meal here with family...service was friendly and attentive, wine was spot on, authentic tapas was great! Don’t miss the deviled crab and jamon iberico pinxtos, the squid ink with shrimp and jamon, roast suckling pig. Manager came by to welcome us, which was a lovely touch.
Wonderful food!!! Simple, clean dishes that are consistently well done executed and enjoyable. Efficient and friendly service.
Fun and lively atmosphere, with friendly and attentive service. Every plate was an exciting surprise. Our favorites were the octopus carpaccio and the suckling pig, HEAVEN!!!!
Excellent and creative menu. Food is superb in a casual setting.
We have been to San Sebastián , so we were excited to try this basque restaurant. The bites were all delicious and the sangria was great. They also offered several different bottles of txakoli on their menu. We bought the cookbook!
just a great place. good food. good wine. good fun.
It was fine, the servers were lovely, the food was fine, there was nothing specifically memorable but we enjoyed our time there.
Great food,excellent service, highly recommended
We love Txikito. We've been many times and also love to bring friends with us. At times the service can be a bit dozy but this time it was very good though we had to occasionally flag our server down. The staff can seem a bit overworked but the food is always outstanding and it is definitely our go to place for great food and casual dining. HIGHLY recommended.
Food is amazing. Waitress was very good. Delivery of food was uneven but I imagine with tapas it’s harder. And I didn’t care because food was so good. No table cloths. Good wine. Not a lot of beer. Small tables. Not for elegant dining.
I had never been to a Basque restaurant before, but the menu looked interesting; so we went. We thought the food delicious. The small plates work well, because you can eat some of a lot of dishes. Good choices of wine, we had a red Rioja for $52/bottle. Plymouth Gin is the house gin, so drink well and order your martinis extra-dry.
We were a diverse group and everyone went away satisfied and happy with the food
Great food. Interesting menu. Good selection of small plates and specials.
Amazing octopus. The food was pretty tasty, unfortunately I found a piece of either glass or hard plastic in my food. Disgusting!
