What Insiders Are Saying
Txikito has been doing solid business in Chelsea for several years, serving Basque-style tapas to people who are mostly on dates. How much you'll like it probably depends on how much you're looking to spend.
Always amazing food here. Wonderful service, too. A real treat.
Wonderful experience dining at Txikito, the service was 5 star and the food was amazing. Would recommend to anyone looking for a local 5 star NYC diner.
Great drinks but food was average. The sausage plate was terrible and the fries were a little basic (but the aioli was nice).
We hadn't been to Txikito for a number of years, for no better reason than that we live across town, and now have a good Basque restaurant in our neighborhood...and we were shocked at how good it is. Dishes--like the calamari ribbons, the white beans with shrimps and mussels, the rice with seafood, the bacalao pil-pil--were exceptional, perfect, as good or better than anything we ate in San Sebastian. Bravo. We'll never let so much time go by again between visits.
Great neighborhood spot! Super nice staff, great service, and really unique and yummy food!! Great drinks too. Can’t wait to come back.
We love Basque so we dine here sometimes.
I understand the size of dish and high price in nyc but rice w shrimp and mushroom was like 4 bites and $24. Way way over priced.
Size of glass of wine is way too small too, they use super small glass.
I probably won’t go back threes again
I took my mom here for her birthday. This was the kind of place I felt like my mom would love, based on the menu. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be returning, but I’ve been to this restaurant maybe 4+ times and each time, the paycheck was steep but almost worth it. This time, I left with a bad taste in my mouth. I got the special with roasted peppers and bone marrow —$19... it consisted of one small slice of baguette topped with a very fatty piece of bone marrow and one anchovy. On the side—roasted red pepper. The dish was very small, very very small. But what’s worse is that there was a hair underneath the toast. I told the waitress and she apologized stiffly, and said they would refire one. at this point, the dish was unappetizing, but we didn’t make a fuss and just hoped it would be comped out later. It wasn’t. We were thoroughly confused and I was thoroughly disappointed at the meal that left us hungry still, with a check of $140 for two people, and we only got one main dish and one of the cheaper drinks each. I’m pretty baffled honestly.
So friendly. Food is first-rate, crowd is fun and diverse, staff incredibly warm & friendly. Owner/Manager very kind and accommodating. We love visiting there.
I love the concept of serving various small dishes as they are prepared and sharing. Everything was delicious. Great variety on the menu.
I had a great meal at Txikito. The Basque dishes felt authentic and the salt cod carpaccio - one of the specials of the day - was outstanding. The whipped chocolate flan was really a dark chocolate mousse but delicious nonetheless. And the Hondarribian rosé was excellent. Although I was eating solo, I never felt ignored - the service was attentive and kind.
Best Suckling PIG ever! Customer friendly corkage policy. My new favorite restaurant in NYC!
Authentic Basque food!! It was as good as any I’ve had in the Basque country. Staff was super helpful and friendly.
Every bite of every dish was so pleasing, that you just wanted it to never end!!
Love this place. Food and staff were great
Txikito is outstanding. Simple as that. From standbys like marinated white anchovies and deviled crab to salt cod carpaccio with squash blossoms, every dish has just the right balance of salt and acid. All really well matched by the food friendly wine list. Oh, and the whole, pan roasted turbot was insane. We left nothing behind but a small pile of perfectly cleaned bones.
Interesting and delicious; everything fresh and tasty. Service couldn't have been nicer.
Txikito is, without doubt, one of the best Spanish restaurants in NYC, the best and the only Basque restaurant here. Foods were very delicious as well as elegant. Services were excellent..
The food was really good, as always, but I wasn’t very happy with the service. They rushed us on every step of the dinner. They brought us all the plates at same time that didn’t fit the tiny table. At the end they took away my plate before my partner finished. Quicky rushed to ask us for dessert and then the check before even asking for it.
This is an Spanish restaurant. I’m not only Spanish, but Basque, and we like to take our time eating, enjoying our delicious food, and of course having some time to talk on the sobremesa.
The restaurant wasn’t full, is not like they needed the table. So I don’t really understand the rush, but it wasn’t pleasant.
Everything to love- food was great- love the fish especially. I love Spanish and French food and now Basque food. Wine was good, ambiance was good and service was friendly. I heartily recommend this place.
Great flavors. Love the international twists of the plates. Will return to this place.
Three of us had a table close to the open section fronting the street. An absolutely delightful experience. The recommendations for food and wine were right on target. The dishes were delicious, appealing and unique. The sushito peppers, greaseless fried eggplant, thinly sliced octopus were perfect. We were treated like special customers even though this was our first time. We arrived at 6:30 on a holiday weekend so this probably was why we received so much attention! A very pleasant experience.
This is a special place.
The pulpo is always the best-thin carpaccio style. Great place on a nice day when all the windows and doors are open
Portions may not seem like much at first glance but the food is rich enough to fill you up with just a few bites. The octopus on the menu is, by far, the most tender octopus I’ve ever had. Incredible! I can’t wait to come back! Would highly recommend to anyone
The whole experience was incredible. The food was great. The service was great. The wine list was interesting and well done. Alex Rajj is on fire.
Really nice spot. Food tasty and great tapas portions. Really enjoyed the drinks too. Relaxed atmosphere, attentive service without being too in our face. We’ll definitely go again!
This is possibly my favorite restaurant on New York. It is a neighborhood restaurant, but the quality of the food is world class. There is a real person behind the menu and in the kitchen. Nothing manufactured elsewhere or seemingly prepared by rote. You feel the 'hand' in each bite. I cannot write a review without mentioning, as a french fry expert, that these are the best in the city. The place itself is also pitch perfect in my mind - simple, comfortable like a small basque restaurant in a Spanish town, connected to the street and filled with warm attentive staff. I am hard to please and in the many years I have gone here have never had a meal or even a dish that did not live up to expectations.
Love this place! They are so nice and the food is amazing!
Excelllent food, excellent host and hostess. The waitress acted annoyed with us and behaved as if she were doing us a favor.
Very delicious !!... don't hesitate to enjoy an evening here.
With so many restaurants and so many types of food in New York , Brooklyn & Queens it is easy to forget great meals that you’ve had in the past. We were fortunate to remember Txikito and secure a reservation last Sunday night. We started with several small plates to share- octopus, king oyster mushrooms, spring vegetable, croquetas, spicy fries, all freshly prepared and excellent. And we also shared the roast baby pig which had crispy skin and sweet succulent meat.... every dish hit the right note. The service was friendly and capable, including a reasonable BYO charge on the wine we brought. Altogether an excellent meal.
Excellent service. Every tapa was tasty and well presented. Lamb was great
Great food. Fast service. Enjoyed the ambiance.
the food was inventive and very well prepared. We had a guest from Paris and he loved it!
The food was exceptionally prepared- and the service was great, our server really understood the menu
The food was superb, and the waiting staff had lots of patience with our kids.
Accidental find! Food is amazing! A very cute place, great service and did i say food was amazing?
Our first visit was overall a good experience. Friendly efficient server who was very knowledgable about the menu. Pretty much all of the dishes were tasty, especially the sauce that came with the garlic lamb. Nice casual flow and ambience. A bit overpriced for small plates but worth another try.
This is a foodie's paradise. I love Basque food, and this place prides itself on the food.
While I love the place, I asked which dishes are good for sharing and the waitress told me all of them. That is not true. We had a very hard time cutting up the special of toast with marrowbone and tuna. But they are all delicious none the less. We found the place looking for the bone-in ribeye we had at Bar Nestor in San Sebastian so which they had that on the menu every night.
We absolutely love this place! The food is so consistently outstanding...can't wait to go back!!!!
