12@MADISON Ratings and Reviews
This is truly a remarkable restaurant, an absolute GEM tucked away in an unassuming building in the Congress Park area. The menu is a tapas style menu which lets you work your way through the menu as you get to try everything!!! Being small plates, each plate is made to order with the freshest and finest ingredients. The kitchen is great to watch as it is so refined operating with skill and grace; it's almost mesmerizing to watch the Chef and Sous Chefs quietly float behind the counter. The wine/beer/cocktails list is to die for! An intelligent and adventurous beverage list has been created, offering something for everyone. There are very interesting twists and turns and fun surprises throughout the wine list. It is fun to navigate and the Somm (Taylor) is so easy to talk to, kind and informative. She can get you matched up with what you're looking for in your price point. Or build your own tasting, the "By the Glass" portion of the menu is by itself amazing!!! The waitstaff is fantastic, they work together seamlessly and make you feel welcomed and comfortable and actually appreciated. David was our server and he was fantastic! He was on point with his service timing and delivery. Make time for 12 at Madison, you need this. You deserve this. Get yourself here! I highly recommend a reservation. Cheers!
They're knocking it out of the park. The service, the food, the location isn't bad. I'm thinking James Beard will come knocking very soon, it's outstanding and creative. Just try everything we've never been disappointed except when something we tried last month isn't on the menu. Thanks for the journey and letting all of us come with you.
Had a really wonderful meal the other night. The restaurant is small but inviting and the staff were very friendly. The food was outstanding and we had a great bottle of Sauvignon Blanc that paired well with the food. Loved the baby lettuce salad, carrot gnocchi and the beet risotto. Everything was delicious and I can't wait to go back.
Went on a whim because I was nearby early Sunday evening. Had a splendid early dinner with some of the best food I've had in a long time. Started with the grilled cabbage salad. It was served slightly warm with a buttery blue cheese, poached pear, walnuts and a slightly sweet dressing. While I was a little surprised it was served warm, it made the flavors blend together beautifully. I ordered the ricotta raviolis for my main course--delectable, sinful, flavorful--wanted to lick the bowl. The lighter than air ravioli were served atop a little creamed chard, drizzled with brown butter which had a lemon undertone. I tried the coconut panda cotta for dessert, which did not disappoint. It was stark white since it was made with coconut milk and had toasted coconut shavings, red peppercorns and caramelized sugar bits on top. Lovely blend of flavors with an unexpected twist with the pepper. Service was friendly, helpful and not intrusive. Although I didn't have a drink, I was also impressed by the well-curated wine and liquor selections. I'll be back with friends soon!
Wife and I have been trying to get a table here for a few months. Place is usually packed and now we know why....the place is great. Menu consists of mostly small plates that have enough food for two to share. 3 or 4 plates should be enough for two people. Flavors and presentation were outstanding. The snow crab dish was a real winner. Ricotta Ravioli was also outstanding. Definitely would recommend for a date night!
We loved everything about this restaurant. From its delicious and tasty menu, affordable options, to professional/warm customer service, we will be back soon! Our children are also adventurous eaters so we were pleased to see a kids menu, letting us know they are welcome.
Excellent meal at 12@Madison to celebrate a birthday. The staff made it special, from a welcome glass of sparkling wine, to the candle on the cake. We tried several items that were outstanding - the snow crab and ricotta ravioli were the best! They paced the meal nicely by bringing out one small plate at a time so you can enjoy each one. The cocktails were excellent - the Pink Lady especially, and the wines were reasonably priced by the glass.
So delicious! This is a small, narrow restaurant where it’s easy to see the action in the kitchen. There’s a neighborhood feel, but this is a destination restaurant. Dinner was course after course of unexpected and extremely well executed plates to share. My husband and I enjoyed 4 plates plus Parker house rolls. It was happily plenty of food, yet still fairly healthy. I didn’t have a cocktail, but the drinks looked very interesting and fun to try. The service was perfect - both warm and professional. Thank you!
What an odd evening we had. I went here with a friend. I always wanted to try this place. The food was fine -- not exceptional but not exceptionally bad. They recommended that we order 5 dishes for 2, so we did. But they arrived at such a slow pace, we were full by the third dish (we didn't feel compelled to scrape any of the plates, but they seemed to be waiting until we finished one before bringing another). The weird thing was that toward the end of the meal, my friend ordered another drink, and the waitress asked if she was driving. She said no. (She really wasn't!) We were not acting uncivil or unusual in any way. She disappeared for a while, then came back and said she couldn't serve her another drink, it was unclear why. We were just ordering wine to go with our food -- we were not drunk. The waitress said something about the cocktails being strong (but we hadn't been drinking any cocktails??). She said we were welcome to talk to a manager. So we said, sure, let's talk to him. We had already paid in full, left tip. He came by and we asked him if they had some some kind of weird alcohol policy (because never in my life have I seen a waitress, during a normal meal, cut people off from wine). He said no, but he had to stand behind his server if she felt we'd had too much. He offered us vouchers for a future visit, and we passed; we just didn't understand the policy. But the second we said "No thanks," he accused us of being "hostile." Utterly bizarre. I've never had an experience like this in my long life of going to restaurants....I'm sure you won't run into particular problems if you don't drink, but for me the food wasn't worth going back for anyway. Shrug.
It's always a treat to have a meal at 12@Madison. We sit at the chef's counter so we can watch the preparations of all the beautiful dishes that have been ordered. We really like sharing plates, and it's easier to do sitting side by side rather than across from each other. We started with kabocha squash, roasted to a caramelized glaze and accompanied by a spicy granola and a delicious toasted black sesame paste. Following that calamari in a tomato dice served on a plank of bread -- rather like a lobster roll without the top. We finished with a brandade cake and then roasted quail. How delicious! Thanks to the staff for interesting food and excellent service. Our server Heidi was impressively knowledgeable and gracious. We really enjoyed this lovely evening.
