Even though you walk into a bar, the dining room is very nice. Food was good and servers pleasant. We could not stay for dinner but had wine and apps. I'd go there again.
I just went with a friend to celebrate my birthday. I love the atmosphere of the train car. Service is always great and the food is as well. Get coupons by e-mail occasionally so I used my most recent coupon to get a free glass of wine. I often get coupons for 20% off lunch or dinner. No other restaurant I go to offers those kind of deals.
I can't believe I lived in Chicago for 30 years and this was my first visit to this charming spot. The dining car decor is fun and the food is excellent. Loved the special - crab risotto. Yum! Won't wait another 30 years to go back!
Wonderful ambiance. Great food. Friendly service.
I live in the Chicago area, and have always noticed a train car restaurant, but had never been there. It was fun to have a weekday lunch in the ambiance of a real train car. I loved the Chicken Marsalla. It was very delicious, and the serving was very large. It made for a great leftover.
My wife and I went with friends for a little get together and dinner. It was our first time here and would definitely go again.
Our service was spot on - attentive, polite, knowledgeable, and friendly.
We ordered 4 dishes to serve family style. Everyone agreed that three of the four were excellent. The steak risotto was good, but not excellent. We shared a Dessert which was also excellent.
This is a nice neighborhood Italian restaurant/ sports bar, which based on our experience, I'd give 4.5 stars when compared to similar establishments.
The food was good for pre-marathon meal. The server was not friendly. I follow a specific food plan and eat a large amount of vegetables. I asked him for a double order of peppers and onions and he ignored me. I took vegetables from my husband's plate in order to have enough. When he came back he said, "See you don't need 2 orders, you have enough." In my opinion, bring the customer what they want and what they will pay for.
I am not one to criticize, as I prefer to look for the best in any place I go, but this place was very disappointing, to the point where I did not choose to stay and eat there.
The entrance is into the bar area which comes across as more a sports bar than a restaurant, which is perfectly fine. If you're looking for a sports bar to watch games at, this place seems perfect.
The dining car is back around the corner, and it was empty except for one woman sitting alone.
This gave me pause as it was 7:15pm when one would think a good restaurant would have a few patrons in it.
All the activity was at the bar. The ladies serving were very nice and attractive. The problem for me was when they unabashedly told a couple guys at the bar that even though this was an Italian Restaurant, there was not ONE SINGLE Italian Person Working there!! They said this with some amount of pride , for some reason.
That was the kicker, and I decided right then to pay my for the drink I had waiting for my date, and walk out the door.
I did find a much better Italian restaurant not far away and had a very nice, quiet, delicious meal.
Great Italian food served in an old fashioned train car! Our dinner, the service and ambiance was first class! We will definitely be back!
I've been goin here for over 4 years, since I started working in the neighborhood - the restaurant is cozy, the people are friendly, and the food is really good. The added ambiance of dining in a trolley car is the icing on the cake.
Very good traditional Italian food!
Excellent food, courteous staff, and quiet enough to enjoy a relaxed conversation.
The food was very good and was a quiet place to have a good conversation. I would recommend it for business meeting or an online dating meeting due to the quiet environment.
Food was great! Location is great! Bar was loud, but didn't expect it to be quiet! great place
Service was pretty slow. Went at a moderately busy time but not on a weekend night..
Food was average. No extra touches. Won't return. Fairly priced.
No surprises, this was a good old fashioned Italian meal. We enjoyed the bruschetta and had a choose your own pasta and sauce selection of rigatoni with pesto. The pesto could have used a little more zing but the dish was tasty with the addition of the grated parmesan (that was provided on the table).
Have now been here several times. The gnocchis are the best Ive had, soft pillowy and not overly filling.
The food was bland and tasteless. I expected the bread to be warm like other Italian restaurants, but the bread was stale and cold. My wife ordered pasta with shrimp and creamy pesto sauce, it was very bland, she had to order red pepper to give it some favor.
The Waiter was very inattentive, he never said what his name was. He took a long time to come by each time we needed something even though the dining room was less than 10% full.
The place was dead when we were there during dinner time, 7:30pm on a Saturday evening, prime time which was ominous sign.
The only reason we went was because I had purchased a restaurant.com coupon, the only rules on the coupon was the bill had to be over $50, with tax and tip not included in the $50 total. I satisfied the requirements, but the waiter came back and said my alcoholic drink (glass of wine) could not be included in the $50 total and I was $10 short. I told him there was no requirement stating alcoholic drinks could not be used. He still said I was $10 dollars short, I ask to speak to the owner, but I was told he was not available.
I felt they were trying to jack up my bill, I did not argue or complain but not happy with my experience here one bit. I did not order any more food, just paid my bill and left.
I tried calling the restaurant several times over the next few days, the owner I was told, was never available. I left message, no one called me back, so it seems they don’t care about the poor food and bad service. I will never eat there again.
Revisited a forgotten place. Good place for lunch!
Pleasant staff was very accommodating. We enjoyed our meal and the food was delicious. It did feel like eating in a dining car. We would definitely return.
On a recent visit to Chicago we had the pleasure of dining here. About a 4 block walk from the W Hotel on West Adams. While the restaurant was not very busy, the service and food were exactly what a dining out experience should be. We enjoyed two great entrees and dessert for a very reasonable price considering the quality and quantity. Italian food lovers should definitely check this spot out.
Great experience. Overall service was great, just didn't like that they didn't honor the group on deal. I loved sitting on a train car and the food was great.
The service was excellent. They prepared my meal off the menu, Spaghetti Bolognese, and it was excellent. I especially enjoyed the Oysters!
We celebrated two birthdays at Tutto this weekend and the experience for everyone, nine of us total, was great! I've been here but it's been a few years so wanted to go back. The service was very accommodating. Two people from our party had to leave early to catch trains and the server took care of them first. The rest of us placed our order after the two who were leaving early received their dinners, it was that fast and fresh. We enjoyed the bread and cheese offered in advance of the meals. Our meals for the rest of us came just as quickly and were prepared wonderfully. They then brought out complimentary cheesecake for the two birthday girls and everyone had a chance to sample this rich delight. We were all very satisfied and will return when we're in the city again. Great location, accommodating service, not overly priced and generous portions will keep us coming back!
We had a team dinner of 20 people and food was great! Everyone shared and got to taste many dishes. Service was attentive, but not obtrusive. We were in a separate area, so it was nice for chatting. I only made the reservation a few hours before the dinner and all was well accommodated.
back there in a minute !!! It had great food, service was perfect and i loved the ambiance. the caboosse look and feel is excelleent
We enjoyed our meal here, but the atmosphere was a bit too quiet for us. The train car is cute and it would probably be noisy if it was crowded. I realize the Loop isn't hopping on the weekend, but there were only a handful of other tables. The food was very good and the service was too, but we prefer a more lively atmosphere. We'll try it again as the food was good, it was a good value and we found street (metered) parking nearby.
Difficult even for the cabbie to find, but so worth it. Best veal piccata I've ever had...not the typical that's widely served....a less Americanizedversion. Delicious! When you walk in it looks like a local neighborhood bar.....but the dining room is a train/trolley car.
A neat little neighborhood gem with tasty food, good service and in a fun boxcar setting.
We were surprised when we discovered Tutta Italiano was an old train car set along busy Congress Ave. We went with three grand daughters who split spaghetti with Alfredo sauce between them. The portions were huge and the girls had a hard time finishing the pasta. I enjoyed veal limone. The veal was very tender, but I should have gotten veal picante which was on the menu. My limone sauce was not lemony enough. Others had pasta which was delicious. The price is good for the city, but the entry is dark and kind of scary according to my grand daughters!
Great choice to get filled up the night before the race. Priced very well for a great amount of food.
We always enjoy our dining experiences at Tutto Italiano, whether for lunch or dinner. The food is always very good and the ambience is delightful, especially in the converted rail car.
This has become our go-to restaurant for dinner before events at the Auditorium Theater. But the food is so good that we could go there anytime! This is real authentic Italian cooking, and at great prices, and with a good wine list. And you can have a quiet romantic dinner in the train car.
Where else can you eat in an old-fashioned rail car? The italian food is superb and the service was truly a cut above the rest. The waiter and buser were incredibly attentive and professional. In fact, the buser overheard a nearby table mention that it was one of the guest's birthday. The buser told the waiter who came over and wished the guest a "Happy Birthday." I've never seen anything like that before, it was very refreshing. Great food options as well, try the veal ravioli and the risotto!
I've been going to Tutto Italiano for years, but hadn't been there for a while. A friend had never been and recommended we go. I was pleasantly surprised that the food quality was as good as I remember. Not too busy gem in the South end of the Financial District.
Four of us from the office went for lunch and although at Congress and Wabash, wasn't as far as we thought it would be. The Pullman train theme was cool with historic Chicago photos all over the walls in the dining room that makes you feel as if you are in an old dining car of a cross country train. One of my fellow diners commented that "this would be a great place for an affair"... Another said "great for politicians" and ironically we saw the new head of the RTA, Kirk Dilliard there at the other end of the room. Classic place.
We all ordered different items, one of which was not even on the menu, no problem. When the food arrived all came in large portions and was hot and delicious for a great price. All took some home. Great Lunch,
Wonderful food, old-school, top-notch service with a particular attention to detail.
I love it!
* If you have a business luncheon in the Loop, Don't hesitate to book this restaurant.
The food is decent, but the quality of the service has trailed off over the past year. They have a habit of seating you, and forgetting about you. It takes forever to get your food, and even longer to get your check. Plus, they've developed an annoying habit of 'cancelling' Open Table reservations after you arrive, so that they can try to avoid paying Open Table the commission.
This may be a great restaurant, however the service we had was rude and the waiter was anything but friendly. I will probably not go back add there are many Italian options for dining in the city.
I eat here every few months. The food is usually good. The service is often unenthusiastic. However it was spectacularly poor the other day. Every TV had the World Cup on - and the volume was louder than any sports bar I've ever been in. The restaurant want very crowded (probably because of the annoyingly loud TVs.) The staff was much more interested in watching the game than working. Horrible experience this time. I've had decent ones in the past, so I'll give Tutto another try, but I recommend waiting until the World Cup is over.
