Tuscany - Wheeling Ratings and Reviews
I am a frequent flyer here and love the place. The waiters are always top-notch and the food is always fantastic. One thing that annoyed us this time was that we arrived a few minutes early for our reservation (7:18 for a 7:30 reservation). The floor manager was at the hostess booth and said to me rather curtly "its going to be more like 7:30" when I gave him the name for our reservation; then he simply walked away. We then noticed that they began to seat people that "checked in" after us. I went up to the hostess and inquired - she asked for my name and when I gave it her eyes widened. She grabbed two menus and sat us immediately. Thanks floor manager...
I have counted on Tuscany for a long time. Excellent food and service, although it does get noisy and they have a tendency to seat customers on top of each other at busy times. Large groups seem to get stuffed into small spaces, which causes many, including me, to be rubbing shoulders with the customers seated at the adjoining table. The food and service definitely make the close quarters tolerable, and the people next to me didn't take too much of my dessert.
My wife and I had bar service for dinner. The bartender was cordial and knew the menu items thoroughly and he also whipped up two great martinis for starters. There were 3 types of bread in a basket and tasty olive oil for dipping. We shared a margherita pizza which was thin crust and very good. We had a nice time talking with others at the bar. This was one of many times at Tuscany and we've never had a bad meal! Put Tuscany on your restaurant bucket list!
The waiter was friendly and helpful in choosing our lunch. I requested the french fries to be hot and they were along with the wonderful breaded chicken sandwich. My friend ordered a pasta dish that she could not stop commenting on how wonderful the flavor was. I definitely will be returning.
The waiter rushed us from minute one. I was still eating my appetizer when main course arrived. Before we finished main course he was asking what we wanted for desert. I had to ask him to slow down! He was wound up and ruined the meal. Then he brought the check w/o asking if we wanted anything else. We've been loyal customers x years, doubt we will return.
Must go again to continue eating the seasonal menu. Food is fabulous and large quantities. Anchovies are placed on top of Caesar salad - not incorporated in dressing - beware. Roasted garlic bulb smashed in olive oil and great bread as a complimentary starter. Really a lovely experience!
Shame on you, Tuscany! Even though it was Weds and dinners were half price, we were required to buy a drink. No salads. My entree was advertised as risotto with short ribs. What a got was (delicious) risotto with about a tablespoon of gravy and a couple of shreds of cut up meat. When I mentioned this to the waiter I was told there would be a $4 charge for more meat.
My husband's Italian sausage didn't taste Italian, and what was supposed to be risotto side dish tasted like grits or cream of wheat. I tasted it. It was awful!
Sorry to say - we won't be back. Even at half price it was a ripoff. The best thing I had was the drink.
I love garlic, so my dinner started off very well when the waiter brought us a whole head of roasted garlic with our bread. We followed with delicious calamari and mozzarella with prosciutto, also favorites. Their red sauce was flavorful and pasta tasted fresh. Finished with another favorite- tiramisu. Everything was delightful and nothing disappointing. It’s a little noisy but many private rooms if you’re bringing a group.
Very nicely decorated restaurant, open kitchen.
The waiters are better dressed than the customers. I know that nobody dresses anymore, but Wheeling a western suburb, not rural. Management may want to suggest -- not require -- jackets for gentlemen. That may be a hopeless errand.
Very disappointed in the quality of the food. My wife had seafood pasta that was bland. Also the shrimp and scallops were over cooked. My eggplant parmesan was just okay. I have definitely had better. When we mentioned this to the manager he tried to defend his staff and we felt that he didn't really want to hear any complaints.
