Tuscan Hills Ratings and Reviews
My daughter and I had dinner here for the first time on Sunday after seeing a movie. I've already made reservations for my husband and I for Valentine's Day. It was a very cozy place, the services was very good and the food was as well. It was empty as it was Super Bowl Sunday so that made it even better. I'm not one for noisy restaurants. I'm hoping my husband likes it as much as I did.
We love this authentic Italian restaurant in our neighborhood. We enjoyed the Burrata special (w/ prosciutto) so much that we hope they will add to the regular menu. The Cacciucco was excellent every time especially the cold day like this. We will be back soon.
Heading to Tuscan Hills was just what I needed to celebrate my birthday with my husband and son. It's close to home in Forest Hills. The calamari was delicious and gnocco fritto wasn't what I expected because I didn't read the description but my son loved it! We had the tuna special as the entree.
Delicious, authentic Italian food, definitely a neighborhood top 10. The dining space itself could use some refurbishment though, deep clean some spaces, refresh some furniture, and there was an odd spell last time we were in. Love the restaurant, but taking care of a few of these things could take it from a diamond in the rough to a sparkling gem.
Made reservations for my boyfriend's birthday and was hoping to have brunch, which I saw was every Saturday and Sunday. We got there at 11:15 and they were still setting up. It was the coldest day outside and the cold air had trickled in. We sat with our winter gear on and even sat beside a heater throughout our time there. They had a valentines menu and were not serving brunch. I really wish I had known that when I made the reservation. The pizza was okay and coffee warmed us up. But overall a big disappointment and dampened the rest of the day for us.
Felt like a glorified pizza parlor. Service was friendly enough but our waiter would appear and disappear. One of our guests ordered something very specifically, and after the server said no problem, he got something else. The food was good enough, certainly not bad, but absolutely no reason to go back and for an outing in search of great Queens Italian, this wasn't it.
I was looking for a local restaurant to have a nice New Years dinner with my husband. I must say that Tuscan Hills did not disappoint! I was so impressed. Let me break my review down:
Location: In a main area of Forest Hills. Parking can be tricky at times but when isn't it when you're in New York? Just gotta be a little patient.
Staff: Our server was just delightful. He was an older man (don't remember his name), and he did an exceptional job at making us feel comfortable and happy. He was speedy and helpful with all of our needs.
Food: Everything we ordered was divine. My husband ordered beef lasagna. I ordered sirloin steak over arugula salad. His lasagna was a nice large portion and made so true to its Italian tradition. Indulgent and perfectly balanced on pasta, meat, and cheese. My sirloin was cooked at a perfect medium rare as I requested. It was topped with tender mushrooms. Underneath was a bed of arugula coated with a light dressing and a sprinkle of parmesan. I mean, the combination of everything was just perfection! The wines are not too outdated. We ordered merlot and chardonnay and we had zero complaints. We ended our night was with a lemon sorbet that sat inside of a fresh lemon. Light, fluffy, and smooth with just the right amount of tang.
Ambience: This is a small restaurant, so there are a lot of tables close to one another. You can hear the conversations of those near to you. But! It's a quiet and cozy place anyways. It has a homey feeling to it. Very intimate. It's dimly lit with brick walls and decor that takes you to a small spot in Italy. You don't need to come here for a formal fancy dinner at all, as they have menu items that are simply comfort foods.
Overall I had a memorable New Years dinner. In a good way. Very impressed with all aspects of the place. Go to Tuscan Hills for your next dinner date, anniversary, birthday, or a pizza night! I will return for another special occasion in the future!
I came for dinner with a reservation and was seated immediately. The staff were fine, but what I really look for in a restaurant is the food.
PRO: yellowfin tuna was Delicious. This special included tasty fish, good salad and potatoes, all nicely balanced. The win for the night!
CON: the margarita pizza should be removed from the menu. When I order a margarita pizza in a restaurant, I envision I will get a pizza crafted with experience and quality ingredients. I expect tomato sauce and white cheese. What we got was a slimy looking regular pizza at 13inches. If I saw such a pizza at a pizzeria I would have ordered something else. Taste was equally unimpressive.
We always enjoy going here as a family. Good food specials, a good wine list and good food for the kids. Service can be a bit inconsistent but overall, I highly recommend this place if you are in Forest Hills. I also recommend their sister restaurant, Ovo Sodo.
Food was great and not too expensive. You can find their menu online to see. The waiter was very nice. The lighting wasn't ultra dark like most dinner restaurants where you have to use your phone as a light to see the menu; it was just bright enough. We had gnocchi (great), a dish with prosciutto, salami and cheese, and awesome fried Calamari. The martini was also excellent. A great Italian food spot for those in the Forest Hills area. And if you're in Manhattan, get exotic and come out here! Austin Street's usually lively and there are two theaters nearby.
I was disappointed and surprised to see such an old and outdated place in this area. The place is really very unappealing and old. Its like the owners do not care. The place was almost empty when we got there and we were sat by the window which was very cold. We complained and moved ourselves to the middle of the room and ended up blocking the poor waitress.
The octopus was terrible but the pizza was actually thin and delicious. The Brozino was in the days special and it was the most bland we ever had - really no flavor at all, almost poached like. The Skirt steak was also in the specials for the day and it was surprisingly good bit it could have done without the melted cheese - either way, the steak was delicious.
If you live around the block and want to eat a pizza pie or a plate of pasta or grab something to go I guess I see no issues with this eatery, but this is not a destination or spot to bring friends and family by any means. The staff needs training, the place needs to be renovated or at least update the overall decoration, paint, light fixtures and do something about the cold draft.
Dinner was delicious. The restaurant was crowded (which we were happy to see), so the staff seemed a bit over-extended, but the service was attentive and very friendly. Our out-of-town friends were impressed that we have such good Italian food and wine in Forest Hills.
I've been to this restaurant quite a few times with family & friends. I also had my son's 40th birthday party in their private room and it was a huge success! The menu was perfect and so was the food and service. Everyone at the party was really impressed. Marco, the owner, couldn't have been nicer, was very accommodating and went out of his way to see that everything was successful. I definitely will patronize this restaurant more often.
