TusCA Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
We didn't find disabled parking near the front of the restaurant or walkway for a person using a cane. The steps up to the front made it slightly difficult.
Is there parking and another entrance?
Other than that issue, we were pleased with our food and window table.
We were there for the Thanksgiving buffet. The food was great and the service was wonderful. However, the band was too loud to have conversation. If they hadn’t quit soon after we arrived, it would have ruined the entire meal. I loved the type of music they played - it was just way to loud.
Tusca's understated elegance and typically corporate Hyatt ambiance might lead one to expect a certain level of cuisine, but that was not the case when my family dined there recently. I ordered the roast potato and New York steak entree (cooked medium), but suspected a problem before the first bite when the included broccoli florets arrived charred. I did sample one, to ensure it wasn't some Cajun treatment, but my original assessment was confirmed by the mushy texture and acrid flavor. Moving on, the potatoes were mostly cooked and completely devoid of seasoning, even salt. My sister helpfully suggested perhaps they wanted the guest to season them to taste. I didn't buy it.
I carved a bite off the generous sized NY steak, but Its depressing gray color, relieved only by the slightest hint of pink the size of a penny, in the center, indicated it was just shy of well-done. And the flavor? I would rank it between HomeTown Buffet and Sizzler.
But all was not lost. Our server, Sarah, was abaolutely delightful. She was helpful in making menu selections, warm and personable without being too chatty, did not hover and yet materialized at my elbow within moments of my wanting something. It was her suggestion I try the house red wine which turned out unexpectedly delicious. I believe it was a proprietary label of the Hyatt's that could hold its own against any of Napa's $40 cabs or Livermore's $30 zins. I'm uncertain if it was a cab, or a cab/zin blend, but I was certain I could have drunk it all nigbt with its lush up front fruitiness, and velvety smooth whole mouth feel. It was my salvation as it rehydrated my mouth after each dry bite of steak.
This was my 2nd visit, the 1st being a Thanksgiving buffet which I enjoyed immensely. So perhaps their chef was having an off-night - it happens to us all. I'll give Tusca a third try before I close my book on them. Hopefully, I will discover that my once in a blue moon birthday out was a once in a blue moon Tusca anomoly.
Breakfast buffet cost $25 per person. The eggs were mushy, the bacon was stiff, the potatoes undercooked.
Dinner was $75 per person (incl appetizer, 2 cocktails, 1 glass of wine, bottle water). Calamri and main course were very salty.
I'm giving them 2 stars only because the staff were very friendly, maybe a little pesty, but w/good intentions.
The mashed potatoes just don't get enough recognition. We had the strawberry and greens salad, chicken piccata (with the "should be famous" mashed potatoes) and the salmon on rice. All were very tasty and served up by a pleasant smile by Cami. Great job to the folks in the kitchen.
The food was atrocious. My Risotto was bland and my husband's steak was over cooked with no flavor. The salsa verde that came atop the steak had to flavor balance what so ever. The service provided by Sarah and Mark was excellent. We expressed our disappointment to Sarah and she immediately took both entrees off the bill. We did however really enjoy our calamari appetizer. We made sure she knew the service was amazing but the food was way below par.
woefully understaffed, only 2 waiters on we were visited by our waiter only 4 times from beginning to end. busser palming clean glasses with dirty hands and placing them on table. Chicken picatta was over cooked and under flavored. Yes, I let the manager know :) because it is a HD violation and just gross. Squid ink linguine was good but squid was overcooked and rubbery. Ciabatta bread was good.
Could have been much better with proper training and staffing
We stayed at the Hyatt and decided to try the restaurant for dinner. TusCa is a nice choice for a good meal, both of us enjoyed our both the starter and the main course. The food was fresh, very tasty and presented well. The staff was very accommodating, we wanted a nice leisurely meal and they did a great job of pacing the meal. The big treat was that they recognized that we were celebrating an anniversary and brought a nice card, balloon and dessert was on the house!
We booked the reservation to attend a special event, which included a musical performance of a local band. The menu was prefixed as was the price ($49.00 per person). There was only a single sitting offered at 5:30 PM.
The prix fixe menu included a glass of bubbly upon arrival, an antipasto platter with bread (shared), two choices for salad course (antipasti or Cesar), three choices for main entree (chicken parm, shrimp Alfredo, and papperdelle bologense, and two choices for dessert (tiramisu or gelato).
The antipasto platter was the hit of the evening (quite delicious and a lot of choices). My husband and I tried each of the salads; neither was special or tasty. The main entrees were virtually inedible. The chicken Parmesan was dry and leathery. The pappardelle bologese was sticky and gloppy. Even the dessert was lackluster. The tiramisu was thin and dry. It appeared that food had been pre-cooked and placed in a warming oven, which would be acceptable and necessary if it was a 300 person banquet. However, there were only about 40 people in attendance, all at individual tables that seated no more than 10. It seemed the kitchen should have been able to prepare food by the table, not en mass.
Overall, we enjoyed the evening because of the music, friends and ambiance. However, the value was just not there in the food and beverage.
Very disappointed with my order, Pappardelle. The beef was more like a mush, than shredded beef. It turned out to be like a fancy spaghetti. When served the dish was semi warm on outside and steaming in the middle. Perhaps warmed in the microwave prior being served to me :( The Service was 10/10. Sara is an asset to Tusca. Communicates well, Always checked on us.Made us feel like we were the only guests there. Please recognize Sara for her great service. Mr. Espinola (bartender)made the best cocktails. Please recognize him for his long dedication to The Hyatt.
The food was OK but trying too hard to have a modern twist and not succeeding, e.g. I had salmon with risotto only it was not risotto it was long grain rice with sweetcorn in it. The chocolate cake was very heavy. The spinach salad was delicious.
There was a band playing in the bar area, the noise from it was so loud in the restaurant it made conversation almost impossible at times.
I ate at TusCA, located within the Hyatt Regency Monterey, on two occasions this week - a hearty lunch featuring clam chowder and their Monterey Bay salmon and a lighter dinner with an Italian style pizza. The salmon was memorable, better than that served by one of the upscale restaurants in town. The tasty pizza, although supposedly an individual serving, would be ample fare for two. (I had half of it boxed to consume later.)
My wife and I celebrated our second anniversary here. I wish I had investigated the menu ahead of time as it was rather limited. Once we were there we also found the menu a little confusing -- we would have been in trouble on the appetizers if not for our waiter.
As far as the atmosphere goes it was okay. We were seated by a window with a view of the golf course, which wasn't particularly spectacular. Pleasant. I enjoyed the atmosphere for the lounge outside of the restaurant. It had character and corresponded to the architecture of the building.
The food (and wine list) were both a little disappointing and pricey. I ordered the steak and found it just okay. The desserts on the other hand were great. I highly recommend the gelato.
What was truly spectacular was the service The wait staff went out of their way to serve us with excellence and make sure we had a great time. Their care for us definitely made the meal a success and the night special. Thank you!
My husband & I went on a date to try out TusCa & use our Groupon certficate. We decided to use the "Two for $80" dinner special. We share a delicious calamari appetizer. We would like to each have a dinner special, but the offer iwas to share an appetizer. My husband ordered the steak entree, which was cooked to a perfect medium rare. I ordered the scallops, served with mashed potatoes & broccolina, which was delicious. We shared the berry tart for dessert, which was light & delicious. We each ordered a glass of wine. Our bill was only $72, which was a great deal for a three course meal! We had 2 waiters who provided excellent service. We enjoyed a golf course view while dining. We would definitely recommend TusCa for a great dinner date. We will return again. 😏
Food was very good - scallops and veggie paella. Very light fried calamari appetizer. Wait staff was excellent. Room has high ceiling and lots of glass - good view of golf course - nothing to absorb the sound so every noise in the area reverberated off the walls. There was a big event going on in nearby ball room and the music from that room also hindered a conversation.
The service at the table and at the many buffet stations was very good. The food was also good. However, even with a reservation we waited for quite a while to be seated and I had to go back up to the hostess to ask. Then we were taken to a table that was already occupied and were left standing in the middle of the restaurant while staff figured out the glitch. This was a bit disappointing.
We went on Italiano night and had a such a wonderful time for my mothers birthday! It was very loud and continuous and hard to catch up with our table but the music was good and it was a fun night in general. And our server was amazing! Please have more events like this!
Normally I don't find the food at a hotel restaurant to be very good. I mean it's normally processed-institutional type food but this is far from that. I really enjoyed the way the salmon was cooked and the seasonings use to flavor it. I wish it was a bit larger but we always say that when something is delicious. Service was excellent and the wine list very nice. Good Port with a nice Tiramisu ended the meal perfectly. Thank you.
