About

In 1796, the Hoboken Turtle Club was founded and became the first organized social club in American History.

Founded by Col. John Stevens, early membership included Alexander Hamilton, Aaron Burr and John Jay. The first official meeting of the Turtle Club took place at what is now Sybil’s Cave.

‘It must first be premised that this is no ordinary club, from the day of its foundation it has existed for but one thing, the principal of epicurean pleasure’
- Col. Stevens.

Today we have re-established and reclaimed their motto of old:

‘As we journey through life, let us live by the way’

The food was hot and delicious, the service was prompt & friendly, and the drinks were inventive. The portions were large and we took home two doggy bags. It was a fun evening out after the movies nearby...

The food was great and the service was good - but it was sooo cold in the dining room! Every person seated along the benches in the back dining room was wearing a coat.

It was our first time at Turtle Club and our experience was just OK. Very dark in side and there is not many healthy dish options.

My date ordered chicken dish, literally completely raw. They refunded her meal but... we lost our appetite. Serving raw chicken is attempted murder in my book...

Very unhappy about the new menu. It wasn't nearly as good as before and the options were limited.

I love to got here late at night. For a meal I would not recommend. The food wasn't great and I spent $30 on a whole tomato with a little cheese, and a grilled cheese which had meat in it when I said no meat. Pretty sure they just took the meat out and brought it back out. There was very little cheese on the bread. Dessert they ran out of the gelato I wanted so they gave me another flavor and one scoop of the one I wanted.. spent $9 on one scoop of gelato and 2 scoops basically went to wasted. definitely could have had a better meal for the $60 I spent -- for one person.

We stumbled upon this gem when visiting Hoboken and needing a late-night dining option. We were told it was the first night of their new menu. We began with a tomato mozarella salad with the freshest tomatoes I've seen in the US. I guess NJ is truly the garden state! I had a delicious shrimp scampi entree while my guest enjoyed a tasty pastrami grilled cheese sandwich. The service was excellent and the manager took the time to stop by our table. Desserts were refreshing and sweet. Would definitely return.

We go to the Turtle Club a lot. We enjoy their Tues $1 buck shuck with friends frequently. Food and service is always good.

But tonight they took it to a different level for V-day. A Pri-fix menu with four appetizers, four maid courses and three different desserts gave a wide enough choice.

The appetizers were fabulous giving us a preview to the food for the rest of the night. Our skirt steak was very tender and flavorful, grilled veggies very tasty.

Desert included a Nutella panini that was amazing.

All for a very reasonable price!

Great job Turtle Club.

Made a reservation for 8 PM, didn't actually get our food until 10. And the burgers were way overcooked.

We arrived at the restaurant without a reservation because there had been a lot of availability on Open Table. Upon our arrival, we were informed that we would only be allowed to sit at shared hightop table even though the entire dining room was empty. I then decided to make a reservation using Open Table so we could be seated in the dining room. It was unfortunate that the hostel could not figure out how to seat us without our use of Open Table. We were then seated practically on top of another couple, even though there were another 5 empty two-top tables. As the night progressed, only two person couples were seated at these tables meaning that we didn't not need to sit so close to the couple upon our arrival. It also took our waitress 20 minutes to verbally provide us with the dessert menu after we asked for it, and another 20 minutes for our dessert to arrive. It was a very unfortunate evening.

Food was excellent. Wonderful flavors. The bus boy was very attentive and visited our table regularly. The waiter Dan was hard to find repeatedly from time to time. Not sure why as it didn't seem that busy.

First let me start by saying service was amazing. They have a very unique and creative drink menu which was great. The food quality tho was not that great. Got the churrasco and the piece of meat was over done and tough as was the asparagus. Good for happy hour and small plates but indifferent about dinner.

The heater was broken on Valentine's Day, and the staff found the situation humorous when I asked about the problem. We were not offered a warm drink or any other type of accommodation, and the bartender enjoyed a space heater while my girlfriend shivered in her winter coat. Not a romantic experience.

Plus, the restaurant only offered a limited menu. I wish the restaurant had disclosed that there would not be a full menu when it advertised or accepted my reservation.

The "Manager" had zero respect for customers and after speaking with her kindly, she mocked us to another group of people at the bar. I will never send a friend there and I will never spend another dime there.

Heat was broken on the coldest day of the year, restaurant did not inform us prior to arriving after paying for a taxi. Could have at least offered us a discounted meal for Valentine's Day for freezing and deciding to stay.

We drove specially on a Sunday night to Turtle Club to enjoy the Hudson Restaurant Week deal they were advertising. When we got there we were told it didn't apply to Sundays. We showed the live website showing that Sunday was listed for Turtle Club on the HRW website. We were told the manager had decided not to honor it anyway.
We sat down and ordered food, which took a long time to come. The food was tasty. We ended up spending less than we would have done had they honored the deal they were advertising.

Drinks are fun and unique and tasty, but lack enough alcohol
Appetizers are all yummy, especially the pork sliders and buffalo chicken dip (nachos weren't great, chili lacked flavor and there was no salsa or spice - add jalapenos)
Ambiance is great, really cool eclectic vibe and great decorations for an old school social club open to the public
Suggest if you have to refill waters more than 2 times, leave the pitcher :) and include lemons by default, not just when asked

We loved the brie appetizer, and we were never without a full glass of water. I was underwhelmed by the chicken fajitas, but they were still pretty decent. Pasta primavera is delicious, the steak was cooked well, and you can't go wrong with their wings and mac & cheese. Great bar food, attentive staff.

They were out of burgers. How is that even possible for Sunday brunch? They had loads of pulled pork however. It appeared at least three times on their menu in different forms and was also offered as a the special. Huh?

Service was slow and the place was empty for a Sunday afternoon. There were seven of us to celebrate a birthday. We brought kids too and the place is kid friendly. They were accommodating and nice enough. But the food was not great.

In addition to being out of burgers (again - Huh?!) they were out of baked Brie which was the birthday girl's go to app. So bummer there. I ordered a chicken wrap and it was nothing special. In the wrap the cheese was clogged on one end and tasted nuked.

It was $250 for seven people, a round of Rose Cava, and a few beers and vodkas. So its reasonably priced and like most things in life - you get what you pay for.

Finally found a place in Hoboken where every dish is solid. Don't waste your money at the wannabe fancy restaurants around here. This place is an upscale bar on late nights that's serving spot on dinner entrees. SO had the tilapia topped with gorgonzola and it was delicious. I, fed up with overpriced mediocre food in the area, got the ribs thinking, "If they can do ribs right, they must be a solid place." And boy did they deliver. Cocktails were well made. Service was more than you could ask for. I will certainly be back.

I reserved a table for 2 for Valentine's Day. There was nothing wrong with the reservation itself, we go there and got seated right away. They also called a couple days before to confirm. What I didn't know and the employee that called should of told me was there was only a Prix Fixe menu. I went there with my girlfriend expecting to order off the regular menu, which we saw items that we liked. It did not have this online or anywhere that this would be the only option. Considering my girlfriend only eats chicken out of the meats, it messed up a lot of the dining experience. We had to ask them 3 times to not season their stuffed chicken with other meats and they kept coming back trying to find out. Besides the strawberry salad I could made better at home, it was just lettuce and like one strawberry cut into 4 pieces. Very small portions of everything and food was mediocre. Definitely won't go back there unless I have to. I do still want to try some appetizers that we were planning to go there for, but I feel like it may be a waist. Also while we do like privacy while eating, we did have to call for the waiter every time we needed them.
