This was our third time at this excellent neighborhood restaurant, and we always leave saying how amazing it is.The food and service equally excellent. I wish there would be more than one fish option, but otherwise have nothing but full compliments for the creative menu with locally sourced foods. The appetizers, such as bluefin tuna crudo, bruschetta, and beef brisket tartar are off the charts delicious. We have already booked another reservation and can't wait to go back!
My favorite Montclair restaurant! I love the menu and the vibe.
We did the fried chicken dinner and it was sooooooooooo stinking dee-licious. Sides were awesome as well. The food is always delicious but a special shout out to the amazing staff. Friendly, courteous, always a pleasure!
Everything was delicious and everyone made the experience wonderful. Already planning next visit.
Excellent dishes, great service and a warm and inviting ambiance !
We will definitely return!!!
Loved the Chicken fried chicken mushrooms. The Pork chop was perfectly cooked and Seasoned. The Desserts were all great. Will definitely come back
Excellent chef in a modern open kitchen trattoria atmosphere. Truly excellent food! Great place!
Very beautiful presentation. Food was as delicious as it looked. Ambiance was warm and comfortable. Would definitely recommend. We were up in the area for a seminar. Glad we were able to get in.
I've dined at this restaurant several times and I can't find a single thing to complain about. The food always good from the appetizer through the dessert.
Excellent, fresh, flavorful and creatively prepared food in a lovely, friendly, responsive, and relaxing neighborhood restaurant. There are excellent choices for all dietary preferences.
Wonderful relaxing atmosphere where lovely service and good food abound. Presentation was great as well.
One of the best prepared beef tartar I have had in long time.
A friend and I went and were blown out by the place. I suspect he and his family will be returning this weekend.
We shared a brisket tartare which was outstanding, and I went out on a limb and ordered lamb collar. The flavor on this was incredible—it was similar to short rib, but even better.
Wonderful delicious food served expertly by people who also love food. Very close to Montclair University.
A fine restaurant that takes its cuisine very seriously. Very nice vibe inside with knowledgeable waitstaff.
Fantastic restaurant with superb professional staff. Utmost unpretentious quality. Have to order their special fried chicken dinner in advance. It is excellent but not quite at the leveling their regular menu. Highly recommend.
Amazing experience sitting at chef’s table. Fabulous food and perfect service. Vanessa was a terrific and knowledgeable server. The gnocchi melted in our mouths. The lamb and halibut were delectable. Can’t wait to return
Considering the chef is known for the pork, there was only two pork choices and the rest primarily seafood. We ordered 8 dishes including dessert between two people ( my husbands birthday) the mussels and octopus were terrible . Mussels bland undercooked and fishy. Octopus extremely fishy. I told our waiter we weren’t happy with the octopus although I wanted to send both back. He removed it from the table. Chilean sea bass was undercooked as well the center was raw. Pork cutlet was excellent. The bill, came and we were charged for the octopus tha5 the waiter took away without asking if we’d like another or something else. I’m never going back. If you go, stick with pork. Even the truffle grilled cheese was lacking.
I booked a table at the Turtle + the Wolf for my fiancé's birthday. We had several recommendations from friends, raving about the food, so we happily anticipated our dinner. I had mentioned that it was a birthday dinner when I booked and I was not disappointed. Our table came with a personalized menu which went a long way for a personal feel. We shared a variety of small plates and entrees, all of which were amazing. Highly recommend the tortelloni and braised lamb. Their specialty is pork, so we plan on being back to try their other offerings!
Food was very good, but in my opinion not worth the hefty price. Maybe for special occasions.
My husband and I recently visited Turtle + the Wolf for a date night, and we made the perfect choice. The food was delicious, with plenty of local seasonal options. We will be back again soon.
Order the fried chicken. You must order in advance! It’s well worth it. We had 2 tables bidding on our leftovers - no kidding. Portion is plenty.
The $36 halibut special was overcooked. So disappointing.
Overpriced for small quantity of food !!
Nothing is special to pay that amount of money
Food was good but although the restaurant was only half full the noise was terrible - we couldn't carry on a conversation
The chef previously worked at Craft and it showed. Season ingredients. Excellent service. Definitely a repeat visit in the near future.
The meals are normal portions so when you leave you are satisfied but not stuff (which is what I look for). The food is fresh and delicious! Great BYOB.
The only negative about this restaurant is that it is noisy.
Went there for the chicken which was highly recommended however I found it to be just better than average .
Honestly this was a huge disappointment. My boyfriend and I were excited to try someplace new for our anniversary and the service was not welcoming. We arrived on time for our reservations and the host sat us down right away. After we were seated we were greeted by a guy with glasses and asked what kind of water we wanted he went and got us our water and at that moment my boyfriend and I asked about one item on the menu and then made the decision to just order the chicken with potatoes. He then went to another girl told her the order and went on with his day. It was then I noticed that he wasn't our waiter and I think the other girl was. At this time my boyfriend and I were waiting for our food we were still never greeted by our waitress still no one came to see if we needed anything, which would've been nice since we were so hungry we would've added an appetizer but since we still weren't sure who our waiter was we just waited for our food, we noticed that the other four couples in the restuarant were being tended to with getting suggestions with what's on the menu and at one point one waitress a Asian female rolled her eyes at us and seemed frustrated. Overall we finally figured out who our waitress was the moment she put the plates on our table. At that point we just wanted to leave we took a few bites I got my food wrapped up and we left. The food was good but again the service and lack of attention was the worst. I would not reccomend to friends unfortunately.
I wanted to like this place so much but ultimately, I was disappointed. Turtle and The Wolf has all the elements of a great dining experience, great location, great ambience, great service and inventive dishes. Where they fall flat is on the food portions and the prices. I'd say fix the portions so you're prices reflect the that or vice versa, because to be completely honest, I felt cheated coming out of this place. It's like a wannabe hipster Brooklyn spot in Montclair with an expensive price tag. If I want hipster Brooklyn, I'll go to hipster Brooklyn.
Wonderful, inventive cuisine; attentive service but the noise level made conversation difficult
Not to be missed. Not sure how long it’s been open, however a must. Montclair is packed with tons of food choices, but this find is special. Looking forward to our next visit, very soon. Excellent service, nice relaxed atmosphere. I could here my wife speak. Delicious food. We had a wonderful salad and our main dishes were the chicken and the pork shoulder. Excellent. BYOB. The bill was fine. Worth every penny.
Just didn't particularly like the atmosphere . It doesn't warrant the prices though the chicken was very good. Don't feel it's nice enough for a get together unless it's your local restaurant. The waiters and waitresses were overly casual in dress which we thought was a bit odd at those prices.
Very good restaurant, but they absolutely must clean the terribly stained stainless steel backsplash in the kitchen. Open kitchens must be spotless if you want customers to view the activity. It took away from our experience. Thank you.
One of the best meals in a long time.
Being a restaurant operator for 20years I was really happy I picked your restaurant for dinner.
Friday night dinner with my hubby at Turtle and the Wolf is always delicious❤️
The apps were great, as always. The entrees were mostly good with the exception of the tortellini which was okay. The server, Ben, got "lost" a few times but his enthusiasm about and knowledge of the food made up for those lapses. We love this place overall!
Wow- I have said it a few times since leaving . I’ve been in the restaurant business my while life. These folks have got it together. Dialed in on both the hospitality and the food. It was exceptional on all fronts.
We drove 30 minutes to find it- not wAnting to eat in the city. Right from the start the service was on point. The server suggested a special- truffle grilled cheese, and when the Chef saw our reaction - he made it happen we were told- and then brought the oysters we ordered instead - on the house. Not necessary but appreciated. The locals here won’t want you to know about this gem, but I have to do my part and let you know just how great it is.
One note that you won’t know if Neil you get there - they serve what looks to be amazing fried chicken, but you won’t get it unless you order in advance, or make friends with a table that learned the secret the hard way !
You wont be disappointed.
Great food with multiple flavours real good service
