Turquoise Ratings and Reviews
We made a reservation, and we knew things would be busy as the restaurant had just been reviewed on Check, Please. When we arrived, no one was at the host's table at the front, and there was a small group of people already waiting. When someone did finally arrive, we gave her our name, she said something we couldn't understand, and then she disappeared. Some time later, a gentleman appeared and asked if we had a reservation. Then he said he couldn't find it - but since we told him that someone had already taken our name, he led us back to a table.
The table had clearly been hastily set up, and the chairs were ones that are normally used for outdoor dining - quite uncomfortable, and not at the right height for the table. The waitress assured us that we would be moved once another table became available. We ordered, and while waiting, we were brought bread and a dip that had yogurt and horse radish which were delicious. Meanwhile, as we were sitting in the direct path of the wait staff trying to get by, we kept having to dodge and weave to avoid trays and bodies, as the staff valiantly tried to serve the other tables around us. Our appetizers were brought - which were fine, nothing special - but we were beginning to tire of our seating arrangement. When we noticed the tables being cleared behind us, we signaled our waitress to ask if we could be moved. She said that they were going to provide us better chairs - would that be acceptable. We said no, we wanted another table, so we were moved. Sadly, it wasn't significantly better, as this table was also in the path of the wait staff. One waiter even tripped over the table leg as he sped by, and I had visions of his tray of food landing in my lap. Our entrees were pleasant to mediocre, but by this time, we decided we'd had enough, so we simply paid and left. It was all very chaotic; no one seemed to be in charge, and while the ambiance was lively, we left without any great desire to return.
I have eaten quite a few times at Turquoise. This time we brought a friend. It was a Saturday night, shortly after Check, please, on WTTW. We had a 15 minute wait with reservation, and the waitresses had little patience to explain menu items. We were discouraged from ordering dessert, being told it would take a long time to get it. We ordered it anyway, and it came out in a short time. Food was good, but felt pushed out. Hope this doesn't continue, as the food is good and reasonably priced.
I have eaten at Turquoise several times. This time, the service was absolutely terrible. I had to order wine and side dishes several times. Service was slow in general. The restaurant was busy, and the staff clearly challenged. My friend really disliked it because of the poor service. Just to prove my point, they didn't acknowledge my Open Table reservation...
We met friends for a Sunday night get together. We had a reservation, they were very busy, but they sat us right away and allowed us to order drinks even though the other couple had not arrived yet. Everyone was very happy with the dishes we ordered. I had the seafood risotto which was cooked to perfection, meaning the seafoood was perfectly tender and succulent and not over cooked. My hisband ordered the mixed grill and he didn't even off me a bite. He was so into it that he told me he was still thinking about it two days later. Warm home Made bread on the table was delicious too. Definitely recommend.
Hunkar Begendi and Adana Kebab were authentic. My American girl friend liked the food too. If you are from Turkey and missed Turkish food, best place stop by before heading back to O'Hare. Close to blue line California and Western stations.
Went on sep 22 for dinner with friends...my reservations were for 7:30...I requested patio dining, no tables were available, so we were asked to wait at the bar. Well, after 20 min at the empty bar, I asked for service come to find out, there's no bartender ! We waited another 10 min for a waitress to serve drinks. After another 15 min, I inquired about the table and was told, they do not take reservations for outdoor seating . Which is fine, but, I was never told that when I checked with the hostess. We were finally sat after waiting 1 hour. Turns out this is ran by family and the kids are clueless on service . Food was ok...octopus appetizers were rubbery...in terms of noise level, it's impossible to carry on a conversation inside. No acoustic panels. ..no noise abatement. ..manager never came to inquire. ..nobody cares.....will not be back...caveat emptor...
We met our friends for lunch at Turquoise and it was perfect. It was a lovely day and we ate outside. Each of us found perfect items on the menu. Food was delicious...the lamb wrap was excellent. We weren't pushed out as we reminisced and chatted. Next time we're in town and get together we'll do it at Turquoise!
Just an excellent eating experience from beginning to end. Got sat at a comfortable table as requested, water and bread were on the table in no time. The bread by the way is served warm -
almost piping - and is really scrumptious. To begin, we had two Turkish appetizers, muhjver , a zuccchini fritterwithc heese inside, and lahmacun, a thin round piece of dough topped with minced meat almost like a very minimalist, delicate pizza. Outstanding both. I had the Turquoise Mix Grill and the beef in it was the tenderest and best tasting I think I've ever had. All of the parts complemented the others. My companion had lamb shank which was good. We both had a French pinot noir which was excellent with each of our dishes. They brought us a special complimentary dessert of ice cream because two of our companions were having their anniversary soon. Our waitress was just superb in every way. It's not particularly cheap, but I'd go back in a heartbeat.
No formal bartender, our waiter made drinks. A dirty martini was more like olive juice with vodka. A melon margarita was .......dreadful, did not come close to a margarita. Another friend ordered a vodka on the rocks-smart!
The warm bread with the unknown dip/spread was good.
The food was marginal, salad was floating in dressing.
Seemed like they were just throwing food out to the masses to get em in and out.
I finally had enough, when ordering coffee and was brought something which tasted like it was made 12 hrs earlier & sat on a hot plate. We sent it back & asked if he could make fresh coffee-he did. Coffee was good. We hadn't been there In several yrs and it was good. Not sure if it was because it was the 4th of July and didn't have their regular crew or what.
Had the risotto with seafood and it was delicious!! Also, had the salmon pomodoro and that was excellent, as well. We had the scallop app and the scallops were cooked perfectly and the dish was yummy. The spread that they give you to go with the bread is so yummy, I would buy it and take it home. Would absolutely go back.
