Turquoise Ratings and Reviews
Good was average, at best. It felt like any common chain restaurant. The table next to us, who were seated at least five minutes before us, ordered salads. But, we had completed our dining when their food finally arrived. Management doesn't seem to care and offered nothing, she even smirked at them when they said something.
Turquoise was a terrific find. Read the menu carefully, look for items that seem interesting. Leave your comfort zone and enjoy amazing flavors in well-prepared food. The servers are experienced in menu navigation. The house bread is amazing as is the spread served with it.
BE CAREFUL...you could eat all the bread and miss the appetizers and main courses. My white fish was excellent and the accompanying bed of deliciousness the fish rested on would make me want to learn to cook. Dessert was a stretch but we made the sacrifice.
Get over there...avoid bread binging...and have a great meal in a lovely room.
Our server was great, very efficient. But the steak I ordered well done was really medium with lots of pink. I think they try to rush people in and out. My party of 5, which included 2 out of state friends, was asked to leave a little over a hour of being there. Apparently we didn't order enough drinks or spend enough money to warrant a little visit at our table after we were done eating. I won't return for this reason.
The food is excellent - make sure to get the hummus. Not too noisy - can definitely hear people in a group as long as you go early. The only issue is that it's a small space and very popular, so if you're sitting close to door, as we were with a group, you will be blasted with cold air during the winter. Our server was great.
The service was absolutely perfect. Our waiter helped us choose our meals then other waiters were happy to jump in. If there was an empty plate it quickly disappeared and if they spotted us looking at somebody else's meal and had a questioning look on her face they were there with an answer. They weren't overly attentive it was just really nice to see that they noticed and offered assistance. My boyfriend had the leg of lamb with risotto and it was fabulous. Our appetizer was the grilled calamari which we had never tried before and it was really good. More like a salad which our waiter had told us would be. In fact it was so good looking and tasty but the table next to us ordered the same thing based on our recommendation. That is actually one of the facets of this restaurant which is unique in that you're sitting close to the other tables so there is an interaction with the other guests. The desert was scrumptious too. If you are looking for a quiet private moment with someone this isn't the place this is more of a social experience which you're sharing with others in the restaurant. We loved it and will be back.
Great place, great food! We arrived there 30 minutes early, but they gave us a table right away. Service was very good, although we could use a bit more explanation. The food presentation is soo beautiful and artsy so it was hard to destroy it. Great atmosphere, not too loud so we were able to talk and enjoy our company. Definitely, we will repeat.
We made a reservation, and we knew things would be busy as the restaurant had just been reviewed on Check, Please. When we arrived, no one was at the host's table at the front, and there was a small group of people already waiting. When someone did finally arrive, we gave her our name, she said something we couldn't understand, and then she disappeared. Some time later, a gentleman appeared and asked if we had a reservation. Then he said he couldn't find it - but since we told him that someone had already taken our name, he led us back to a table.
The table had clearly been hastily set up, and the chairs were ones that are normally used for outdoor dining - quite uncomfortable, and not at the right height for the table. The waitress assured us that we would be moved once another table became available. We ordered, and while waiting, we were brought bread and a dip that had yogurt and horse radish which were delicious. Meanwhile, as we were sitting in the direct path of the wait staff trying to get by, we kept having to dodge and weave to avoid trays and bodies, as the staff valiantly tried to serve the other tables around us. Our appetizers were brought - which were fine, nothing special - but we were beginning to tire of our seating arrangement. When we noticed the tables being cleared behind us, we signaled our waitress to ask if we could be moved. She said that they were going to provide us better chairs - would that be acceptable. We said no, we wanted another table, so we were moved. Sadly, it wasn't significantly better, as this table was also in the path of the wait staff. One waiter even tripped over the table leg as he sped by, and I had visions of his tray of food landing in my lap. Our entrees were pleasant to mediocre, but by this time, we decided we'd had enough, so we simply paid and left. It was all very chaotic; no one seemed to be in charge, and while the ambiance was lively, we left without any great desire to return.
I have eaten quite a few times at Turquoise. This time we brought a friend. It was a Saturday night, shortly after Check, please, on WTTW. We had a 15 minute wait with reservation, and the waitresses had little patience to explain menu items. We were discouraged from ordering dessert, being told it would take a long time to get it. We ordered it anyway, and it came out in a short time. Food was good, but felt pushed out. Hope this doesn't continue, as the food is good and reasonably priced.
I have eaten at Turquoise several times. This time, the service was absolutely terrible. I had to order wine and side dishes several times. Service was slow in general. The restaurant was busy, and the staff clearly challenged. My friend really disliked it because of the poor service. Just to prove my point, they didn't acknowledge my Open Table reservation...
We met friends for a Sunday night get together. We had a reservation, they were very busy, but they sat us right away and allowed us to order drinks even though the other couple had not arrived yet. Everyone was very happy with the dishes we ordered. I had the seafood risotto which was cooked to perfection, meaning the seafoood was perfectly tender and succulent and not over cooked. My hisband ordered the mixed grill and he didn't even off me a bite. He was so into it that he told me he was still thinking about it two days later. Warm home Made bread on the table was delicious too. Definitely recommend.
Hunkar Begendi and Adana Kebab were authentic. My American girl friend liked the food too. If you are from Turkey and missed Turkish food, best place stop by before heading back to O'Hare. Close to blue line California and Western stations.
