Turner's Seafood - Salem Ratings and Reviews
This was our second time dining here on our annual Salem vacation, and it was just as amazing as our first experience. As with our first visit, we made a Saturday night reservation, which was honored in a timely fashion (it was for 8pm, we were seated by 8:05) with a cozy booth right next to the lovely roaring fireplace. Feels like a cozy lodge, even though the restaurant is large. The service and food were terrific despite it being crowded and busy. I highly recommend their specials--I had the grilled scallops and it was one of the best seafood meals I've had (and I live on the shore). All of the appetizers and desserts I have had there have been superb as well. I will look forward to returning a third time next year!
We love Turner Seafood and have been many times! Their fish is always fresh, and the chef is creative, mixing flavors and spices with new recipes. I started with the fish chowder which was loaded with fish, my husband had the tuna chili which was to die for! A friend had the lobster bisque which he loved. For my entree I had the haddock picatta, which was perfectly seasoned and lemony, and my husband had the hake marsala, and he finished every drop! The portions were generous, and my husband happily helped me finish my dinner! The wine and drinks were great, service was impeccable, ambiance was noisy but fun, and we sat in a booth near the window, which was much quieter. One drawback, the reservation is a semi-reservation, meaning they will take your name and seat you within fifteen minutes, but only if your entire party is here. If someone is parking, you'll have to wait until they return to be seated. Well worth the wait, though!
We went to Turner's for a ladies ' night out . We were seated promptly but there was some confusion as to who would take our order . We had 2 servers give us the specials and there seemed to be some confusion as to what those specials were because each person had different ingredients to tell us about . Our server took our drink orders and then came back quite quickly 3 times to get our order , felt a bit rushed . Our server also was not very knowledgeable about the menu. Food was good, not great but fresh and well prepared . I would go back but I will also try other places in the area .
We really enjoyed our meal, and the front of the house manager was a lovely man. Please note that while we made a reservation via Open Table, and therefore thought we had one, we had to wait, and when we inquired, were informed that it was call-ahead only, and they do not take reservations. That would be good to know!
Overall pretty good Restaurant, however our friends claimed the Clam Chowder here was the best they have ever had. We ordered a Clam Chowder and a Lobster Bisque. The Bisque was out of this world, the Chowder was run of the mill and very bland. The Haddock Picatta was truly wonderful, however the surf and turf was not worthy of the price. We probably will skip this place the next time we are in town.
At first we were given a small table in what you might call the annex. I was uncomfortable. So I asked for a booth in the main room and we were given one right away. We ordered our dinner. The food was average. The ambiance was okay, the noise level reasonable.
We went as a group of 14 on the Saturday before Halloween, probably their busiest night of the year. Kathy called us a couple of days before our reservation to make sure we were still showing up and made sure to go through all our plans for the night so we wouldn't be stuck for time. I wish every restaurant was run like this! We had Shirley as our waitress and she was awesome . She had a great attitude , funny and very accommodating . Even though the place was a zoo, she handled it as if we were the only patrons in the place. Definitely a must if you're in town visiting . Food was great , service was even better .
While I greatly enjoyed the food, my experience with my waiter left me hungry for a new server. I understand it’s a busy holiday weekend, and am more than willing to exercise extra patience because of it. However we sat for 10 minutes before he even said hello or took our drink order. We were seated for twenty minutes before we even got our drinks. And only one of us got one and we had a couple more minutes for the second.
Meanwhile I watched him chat with other staff and be there for every need of his other table. And while it was a larger one, and I understand that they’re more profitable, it wasn’t very encouraging. We nearly left. There was a small mixup with our food, but the manager corrected it and another staff member checked on us too. Before our waiter came back to make sure all was well. Lovely food, terrible waiter. If it wasn’t for how pleasant the manager was, I’d have left a worse rating.
Delicious! I ordered the Mac and cheese with lobster meat and also the pear salad. The food was amazing and the service was top notch. It was my first time dining here, and will definitely be coming back! The only “complaint” I have is that to add lobster meat to the Mac and cheese was a tad overpriced for what you get. The Mac and cheese dish was 8 or 9 bucks and to add lobster was 12! There was not that much lobster meat in the dish for 12 bucks. But overall it’s a great place to eat!
We came here for my birthday and it was such a treat! My main motivation was to eat at a highly haunted restaurant, and to also experience some amazing seafood. Considering the quality the prices were very reasonable and we were stuffed. Our server was an absolute sweetheart and provided amazing service. He even brought out a little dessert with a candle in it to celebrate. I'd highly recommend this place for special occasions!
Food is good, but the service was poor. Made a reservation a week in advance with open table, and when we arrived were told that our table wouldn’t be ready for another 30 minutes, after telling them we had plans post dinner, miraculously the 30 minute wait turned into a 2 minute wait. When we were seated it was evident that there were multiple open tables. So overall I would say poor management, but the food was delicious.
Turner’s is a great place for all occasions. The food was excellent (honestly the best mussels I’ve ever had) and the wait staff was very friendly. Food options are great for any age level. Restaurant was packed due to Salem MA in October level crowds but we were seated promptly at our reservation time.
