Tun Tavern Restaurant & Brewery - Steaks & Seafood Ratings and Reviews
We were in Atlantic City, reserved Tun Tavern last minute with the OpenTable app. We arrived a few minutes before our time and with a few people before us, we were all seated quickly. With making reservations it seems that you are seated in a different area than the walk-ins. Staff was very nice, and the food was fresh and good. We started with the chicken wings with BBQ sauce. These were big, crispy, meaty wings. My wife ordered the scallops which she liked, I ordered the filet mignon, cooked to my liking of black and blue... We have been to some steakhouses where wait staff had no idea what that meant, and here at a micro brewery they did it right. The portions were sized right for when we eat out we hardly ever have room for dessert, but here we had the cheese cake and the salty Carmel cake. Both of which were nicely presented and rich. All in all we would go back again, but after all it has been a long time since we were there last.
My wife and I were staying at the Sheraton and on our way to the Tanger Outlet stores, so we thought it might be convenient to eat at Tun Tavern since it sits adjacent to the hotel. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and the chicken was the driest piece of meat I had ever eaten. When I mentioned it to the waiter, he informed me that all the chicken breasts were precooked in the morning and then re-grilled upon order. He suggested that next time I should ask for a "freshly cooked" piece of chicken so it won't be so dried out. Next time? Really???
We had been here a year ago and remember the experience so different. We were staying at the hotel adjacent to the restaurant and where there for a dance competition. Originally our reservation was for 4 people and another dance family also had a reservation at the same time for 4 people so we went down to the restaurant a few minutes earlier to ask if we could combine the tables so we could all sit together. The restaurant was quite empty when we got there and they said they could accommodate the seats together, but that everyone in the party had to be there before we were able to sit down. Some of the dancers had gone back to the rooms to change and were on their way and yet we had to sit and watch others do the same. It was an odd thing to have us do. We would have started ordering drinks and appetizers had they allowed us to sit. It wasn't as if they were giving up our table so this made no sense. They lost the opportunity to make money on us cause we probably would have ended up ordering more food and drinks this way. When we finally sat we saw they had sangria on the menu. Four of us wanted some and we ordered a pitcher. The waiter came back and told us they don't do pitchers. Again a loss for them, cause we probably would have ordered at least two pitchers and instead we ended up ordering just one drink each. The food was your typical pub burger and wings kinda place. The burger was good. I made the mistake of ordering a chicken salad and requested they hold back the blue cheese which was on just about everything, yuck!!! The salad was delivered with the blue cheese on it. The waitress took it back and they simply just scraped off the top layer of the salad they prepared incorrectly leaving me with less lettuce and just a few pieces of chicken versus what was originally on the dish. The service was terrible and the food was way over priced for the type of service you get. I would not be going back again or recommending to others.
Our food was awesome and cooked to order. The handcrafted beer was excellent, the Devil Dog in particular. My wife actually met the owner while taking a picture of a Marine uniform hanging on the wall. Turns out, it was his brothers. The history of the place, as parents of a young Marine, is what initially triggered us to try it out, but the excellent service and food will keep us coming back!
I will start with positive. Wings and burger were excellent. Location was great for the convention center. The negative, it seemed as though they were trying to get you out the door as fast as possible. We received our main course less then 10 minutes after our appetizers. The table next to us hadn't even received all their appetizers when their main course arrived. Slow it down and allow your patrons to enjoy the food.
This place is great! I mean, they have it all! Great food, excellent staff, a working brewpub with fantastic stainless steel machinery and brewing equipment behind glass walls that catches your immediate attention. Then there's the fine collection of Marine Corps pictures, photos, and memorabilia. The name "Tun Tavern" is based on the birthplace of the Marine Corps that was in Philadelphia. It makes this formerly active Marine's heart beat just a little louder when I visit. The beer selection is broad spectrum with "Tun Light" at one end of the spectrum and their Stout anchoring the dark side. They always seem to have six or seven beers or ales on hand as well as a seasonal selection. (Currently that is pumpkin ale and octoberfest.). I go to Atlantic City just for the seafood, steak and burgers! Our waitress was a goddess named Tatiana and kept our table set up all night! Not to be missed!!!
8 of us went for my boyfriend's 50th. They had great sampler beers. Let us bring our own cake. There was a nor'easter so I don't know how outdoor dining would've been but I'd definitely go back! Food was good too along with really nice waitstaff. We had a ball!
We arrived late and we were looking for somewhere easy and quick to eat. We came across this place on open table and liked the menu so decided to try it out. We had the calamari to start which was good and then both ordered the shrimp scampi pasta (I think that's what it was called) which had a lemon butter sauce. The pasta was actually very good and tasted fresh and fragrant. The waitress was very sweet too, and filled up our drinks constantly and had a joke with us too. We had dessert which was ok- pretty standard chocolate cake and ricotta cheesecake but they were very filling! I would go back if I'm ever in Atlantic City again
The first night via our Open Table reservation was a poor experience. The restaurant was nearly empty on a Friday night, but the live music act they had was turned up so loud we couldn't have a conversation. That could have been forgivable considering the type of place Tun is, however the food and the service were both awful. I ordered the "chicken teriyaki" which said was served with mashed potatoes, I requested a rice substitute instead as they has many other dishes served with rice. The dinner I got was chicken on bone slathered in mediocre teriyaki sauce, with very dried, hard yellow rice which we were pretty sure was a popular box brand cooked poorly. The rice was actually not edible, as it was so hard, but not once did the waiter return to ask how our meal was or see if we needed water. Not once. We finished eating (what little I ate) and had to wait even longer for the waiter to finally come around. Remember, this kind of food and service happened on a night where the restaurant was mostly empty.
It's not fine dining by any means .. It took someone at least 10 minutes to come to the Hostess stand to seat my party.. The sandwich I ordered must have been pre made on the refrigerator as the whole thing including the bread was ice cold. There was hardly anyone there and the service was terrible .. Very disappointed! It used to be better,,,
My large group turned out to slim down before we even arrived. I had no problems changing the group size when I contacted the restaurant. That was just the start of a great night. I guess we arrived during a lull in the holiday/Saturday crowds. Which worked in our favor!
The waitress, Ashley, was on top of everything. She even joined in our conversations and fun times.
The beer sampler was a great introduction to the house brews. Which we were all able to select one or two that we preferred. The food was top notch! All of our guests were impressed and will definitely return for more fun times!
We have been to Tun Tavern many times. The food is always excellent! If you are looking for a good steak or burger, this is your place. I had the Filet Mignon and was cooked as I requested. Its a little noisy but not bad for an open space and lots of people. I will be back!
We ordered the hot wings and calamari appetizer both were over done and to crunchy--not good. My husband ordered the crab cakes which were also over done and dried out. I wanted the Tuna and they said they were all out. it was 5 on a Saturday how could they be out? So I ordered the shrimp and rice again it was over done and dry. I would not recommend this place at all!!!!
The food and ambiance provided for a great time and incredible meal. Executive Chef Jennifer Cimino is out doing herself with the great food and upcoming new menu. A definite restaurant stop in Atlantic City! They have earned a new customer! Keep up the great job!
Restaurant was uncomfortably hot, muggy . Two of salads were wilted and slimy..totally inedible. Shrimp was fishy. One order came out completely wrong. One order was not put in with the rest and didn't come out until the rest of us were halfway done. Two meals were sent back and the waitress took them off our bill. The manager never came out although the waitress said she would send him/her over. On top of everything, it was soooooo overpriced for what we got. OH... and the beer was a backyard keg...flat beer. Totally unimpressed. We left and went to Wing craft.
There was no one in the place and we were asked to move to a booth because there was a large party that had a reservation. We had a reservation. We did not really want to move. There were two other open tables behind this one that we could have been offered. In the end, our table was then removed from the group about 15 minutes later and remained open the entire time we dined.
The food was OK, typical bar food, but underseasoned. We ordered an appetizer, a burger and crabcakes. I ordered a beer that I returned because it was flat. The second beer was also flat but at least drinkable and did have a nice color and taste. With AC prices the bill was almost $60. No one from the staff was smiling, ever.
Overall NOT worth the time and money.
This restaurant caters towards private parties, however they don't have a private room to accommodate this. Our reservation was at 10:00pm and there was a "private function" along with a DJ; the music from the DJ was so loud it was unbearable, making conversation virtually impossible. The upside was that the food was really good. If there are private functions they should just close the entire restaurant or better yet build a private room.
Had dinner reservations for 5:30 on a Saturday night before a show. Probably should have just had burgers. My husband and I both had dinner - he had Chicken Parm and I had Salmon - both were just ok.
Also, the material on the table top (had a booth) was very sticky.
One bright spot was the Raspberry Sangria which was excellent.
This restaurant had such great potential... Booked a reservation for 6 people for a pre bachelorette party dinner. Checks could not be split, restaurant was out of 3 different menu items we tried to order and we got no help accommodating a wheelchair. One dish we ordered was amazing and the rest was nothing special. Waitress was impatient and forgetful and left us alone for long periods of time making it difficult to get drink refills or anything else. The restaurant was not busy whatsoever for a Saturday night. Live music was a nice plus.
Made a reservation & only waited 10 mins to be seated. Food was delicious & service was great, especially for how busy they were due to the Beer Fest. The only "complaint" we had was in order to accommodate such a large crowd, the pulled 4 tops apart to make 2- two tops, which works if the tables are in the middle of the floor, but the table next to us was up against the wall & the waitress had to lean over us to take their order & serve us & when the other couple was ready to leave, we had to stand up & move away from the table to let them out. This probably isn't typical, just a result of the Beer Fest going on next door, but definitely not an ideal set up. Otherwise, everything was good and we would definitely go back
