First time at Tuba to celebrate my wife's birthday, and we really enjoyed the meal. We were immediately welcomed and felt at home. The appetizers all looked great, so rather than making a decision we ordered the Tuba Meze Tabağı, which included all the cold appetizers. We enjoyed sampling everything, with our favorite being the Patlıcan Salatası (pureed eggplant, very much like Baba Ganoush with a smokey flavor). This was way too much for the two of us so about half of it ended up in a to-go box.
For the main course I ordered the Tavuk Şiş, a tender chicken skewered chicken. I'm always worried when I order a dish with small chunks of meat that are broiled that the meat will be dried out. That definitely wasn't the case here, with the chicken being juicy and flavorful.
My wife ordered the Karnıyarık, an eggplant stuffed with ground beef. It was also really tasty.
We ended up taking a lot of our food home to enjoy the next evening (between the huge appetizer plate and our generous portions).
We opted not to have dessert, but were happily surprised when the entire staff encircled our table and sang happy birthday to my wife, delivering a wonderful chocolate mouse surrounded by a hard chocolate shell (I don't know the name of the dish, I don't see it on their menu). See photo... really special.
Service was very good, but we had several people serving us, so a few times communications were crossed.
We'll definitely return. It was a very special night, made better by the great food and helpful staff.
I LOVE Tuba. VERY authentic Turkish food, best mezza platter and lamb chops - YUM. Great friendly service (lots of laughs) also love the silver coffee cups. We had such an enjoyable experience - we’ve gone 2 times this month!
Staff was very friendly. Food was great! Prices were reasonable.
Unusual, and I think authentic, Turkish quinine, updated somewhat to CA palates. A small, hip place in the Mission. Staff was very attentive and helpful.
As usual, the food is good, you can hear yourself talk and the service is fast, friendly and great. Many servers take part in it- working together. The tablecloth is cleaned off between courses- a detail I always appreciate in a restaurant. Portions are generous.
Everything was wonderful except the eggplant dish I had was undercooked. The eggplant was hard in the middle. But the rest of the food service and ambiance was delightful.
Turkish coffee is the bomb.
Fantastic appetizers. We have tried many, but they Tuba Sampler covers all the bases. Their lamb is out of this world! Their Turkish wines are limited, but I wouldn't know the difference to be able to judge.
Service was disappointing. Long wait time (>30 minutes) despite reservation. No attention paid to mitigate for the long delay-- eg. we were not offered water as we waited, or a glass of wine, or an appetizer on the house. In fact, when we were finally seated noone came to take our order or tell us the specials (I had to ask myself about the specials) and, during our meal, the waitress asked us to get up and push our tables to the side to seat another group next to us. Despite me expressing we were unhappy about the wait, the restaurant staff did nothing to make us feel better, except at the very end of the meal giving us a coupon for $20 off the next visit (I will not be returning there.) . While the food is quiet delicious, paying high prices and wasting time on such a sub-par experience does not make for a pleasant evening. I was so, so disappointed and do not recommend this place to other diners for a dine-in experience.
Have been dining at Tuba for quite a few years now and every time is a great experience. Great service, excellent Turkish food, and always leave very happy.
It was my wife’s birthday and she loves to have dinner at Tuba! The service is always exceptional from the entire staff! The food is excellent as well! They made it very special bringing out a beautiful decorated plate with a cake for her! Thank you as always for the great experience!
The food was good. Really good actually, but maybe not quite living up to the hype. Or maybe my table ordered the wrong things... we all felt the food was a bit heavy, but maybe that is typically Turkish? I'd definitely go back to try a few other options. The service was rushed and we were given the check the same time our dessert arrived and our servers inquired twice more if we needed anything else... clearly hurrying us along as they had a wait for tables.
This is one of my GO TO restaurants. I live in SF and am always drawn to it. The classic simple salad is, by far, the best in SF. the rest of the menu is standard....but quite good.
As always, the service was great, the meze tasty and the lamb divine! We shared a lovely bottle of wine with our food, the servings of which were ample for sharing.
Went for our anniversary and loved it. Have been wanting to go for a long time and glad we finally did. The cold sampler plate is awesome!
The hummus and phiilo dough stuffed with feta cheese appetizers were very tasty. Also recommend the shrimp, beef and lamb kebob and the beef and lamb kebob wrapped in lavash bread. Because it was a BD celebration they serve this yummy chocolate dessert and sing happy birthday to you! Very cozy dining.
The food is so good and tasty. I was amazed how nice and friendly the staff is there. They really try to please you. Overall, it was a great experience..
Very loud and noisy restaurant. Good food though!
Food was AMAZING. We came on Christmas Eve. Had a reservation for 12 people. Not one sad face. Food was fresh, delicious, and no one felt like they overpaid for anything. It’s a true gem!!
I chose this place without knowing much about it.
We needed a place with vegetarian options and it proved to be a real find! We loved the tasting plates, and the service was fantastic. I will definitely return and would have no qualms about recommending the place to friends.
Tuba gets even better with time. The staff is super-friendly and the traditio0nal menu is always yummy.
Very cozy place with caring staff and fantastic food. I just returned from Germany, and it has a touch of the German "Gemütlichkeit" that I always enjoy.
Staff was genuinely cordial, helpful, attentive, KIND. The full meze sampler plate was outstanding. I would return for that one anytime! Skewered lamb with vegetables was lovely with dipping sauce. Desserts were all fun for my guests - chocolate pyramid and shredded filo with cheese, so very tasty. Pomegranate juice was refreshing. Mint tea with fresh lemon on a beautiful small saucer was charming. Food presentation was festive, a treat for my guests.
The food is always delicious, and great service.
Food was amazing. We tried each of the two Turkish rosés and they were delicious. I had no idea that Turkey made good wines. The server was incredible. She was so friendly and engaging. She really made us feel welcome.
Outstanding food with unpretentious service. The lamb shank on Fridays and saturdays is the best dish ever.
I celebrated my birthday at Tuba with a group of friends. Sharing mezzes and entrées was great, the waitress suggested the right amount of food, and everyone was happy at the end. However, the restaurant was packed with groups and very loud, so this place is not great to have a deep conversation.
Excellent food and service!
Love this place. Most Best food and services in SF
Excellent service. Very good food. Nice ambiance.
I have been to Tuba many times. The food is consistently outstanding as is the service and presentation. The portions are large and healthy. I would like to try their unique desserts but I never have room!
Awesome food! Awesome place. Great service. Delious food and charming set up
It's The Best turkish restaurant ! Don't hesitate anymore!
Wonderful service with an attentive, friendly and knowledgeable waitress, delicious and authentic food, good wine, great location. Only problem was they were out of the chocolate dessert!
Authentic Turkish cuisine, wonderfully attentive and friendly waitstaff, attractive and comfortable space.
I've been to this restaurant several times and have never been disappointed. The service is always amazing and the food is second to none!
I loved our evening. I messed up the reservation, but Tuba was able and happy to accommodate our larger-than-expected group of 4. I had the kofte, which were awesome. I loved these when I toured Turkey, but I think these surpassed any I have ever had.
I'm always on the lookout for places with creative veggie entrees, so my partner and I decided to check out Tuba, and we were both delighted. We started with the ezme, which was awesome - huge portion, beautifully spiced, served with a generous helping of delicious bread, olives and dips. I could eat it every day. I don't even remember what my vegetarian companion had (some eggplant-based dish, which he said was delicious), I was so busy with my own entree - the lamb shank special. HUGE portion of succulent, falling-off-the-bone tender lamb, served simply with rice and piles of pickled vegetables. It was spectacularly good. They also have an interesting wine list, with lots of reasonably priced by-the-glass options featuring both Cal wines and a number of unusual European varietal blends.
The menu is a bit pricey compared to other Middle Eastern restaurants of similar type, but the level of food and service is completely worth it. As good as the food was, in fact, I'd rate the level of service even higher - much better trained and more sophisticated than I was expecting in such a casual place. The servers all worked together well as a team, and provided quick and intuitive refills on bread, water and wine in a very busy room. Well done by everyone. Next time I'll try to save room for dessert.
Adana and sampler cold mese plate was so wonderful and tasty. The Turkish coffee was such a great way to top off the night. We were so glad to be seated outside in the evening because it was very hot inside the restaurant. Service was wonderful and We will be back to try other dishes!
