It was Mother's Day and the restaurant was quite busy. Both the Salmon and the Bolagnese were very good. We ate at a high top in the bar area and enjoyed the ambiance. Service was lackluster but that may have been due to it being late in the day on Mother's Day.
We went to Tryst for the first time on Mothers Day and had a really nice time! Sampling lots of different small plates and great cocktails!
Went on Mother’s Day. Food was excellent, really was. Service is mediocre and ambiance was so so given how full the restaurant was and screaming babies
Nice restaurant, the food was very good and creative, the drinks were excellent and creative. The service was good and the atmosphere on an early Saturday night was bustling.
Tryst has consistently good food and good drinks. My only complaint is that there are tvs everywhere and it's hard to get away from them.
Not a lot of staff. Have to wait a little when busy.
Waited 20 minutes for the waitress who walked up and said “what’s your order?” Molten chocolate cake tasted weeks old and microwaved. Food otherwise nothing special. Been in the past and those experiences were much better. This one was highly disappointing.
Easter brunch was a great bargain along with fantastic service. A very relaxing environment.
The five of us had a wonderful time on Saturday night - the meals were excellent as were the cocktails! We have the best waiter who we've gotten to know over time, and it was a pleasure to bring two new people who hadn't been to Tryst before. They both loved it as well. The striped bass special was really delicious.
Staff was very accommodating, had class to get to and were very helpful. First clients of the day.
We have been coming to Tryst for many years - it used to be my daughter's favorite restaurant. She is 'grownup' now, but I recently went back for a small family dinner, and it was really excellent - menu was varied and imaginative, the quality of the ingredients was very high, and service was great too. We were there early on a Sunday and it was not very crowded - which is good for patrons but makes me feel like the restaurant is unappreciated. Maybe a small facelift would make the restaurant feel 'newer,' because the food was fresh and excellent.
For reference, I had the kale and brussel sprout salad and fresh figs in some kind of cheesey cream sauce. Both were excellent but the figs were memorable. thanks!
Tryst is one of my favorite restaurants in Arlington. A go to for a night out or special occasions!
food portions are perfect but pricey for the size. food is prepared and presented quite well. menu is small with limited options. i had the salmon. and the calamari appetizer. prepared well. my wife had the shrimp tacos. well done.
we shared the broccoli and garlic nashed. excellent
Great service. Great cocktails. Delicious appetizers. Loved the fish tacos. Perfect scallops super salmon.
Very loud and chaotic atmosphere. No certainty of when and who was waiting on us. Could barely hear each other talk
Always a favorite for food and staff.
Service was a bit slow but food was good.
Atmosphere was fairly bland.
It’s an OK place
Food was basic
Shrimp taco was good
Service was fine but not gracious or welcoming
Everyone loves Tryst!
It's time to bring back the duck tacos from so many years ago!
Food was fantastic. All plates fresh and flavorful. Its hard to get such quality food at other establishments. Although it was packed and therefore very noisy, the food will bring me back!
I found Tryst to be a good neighborhood restaurant - with an inviting environment and a welcoming vibe. While the food was overall very good, the scallops were very salty - which not only my experience, the gentleman the next table over also thought they were exceptionally salty. Otherwise, the food was very tasty. Unfortunately, the service was very slow, and the restaurant seemed to be significantly understaffed for the evening. Not sure I will be back, but I don't regret coming for this visit.
Our waiter was sullen and unresponsive and the restaurant was loud. Wouldn’t return
Always a great go-to for drinks and dinner.
Decided to try someplace new for my husband's birthday. Chose a table instead of a high top and was practically sitting upon the people on either side. Service started out ok, but then we felt forgotten. The food was the best part, very nice meal, we had salmon and scallops and the vegetables were great. Wouldn't go back because it was very loud and service was not great. The name doesn't suit the spot as it seemed like a family-friendly joint, not a place for a 'Tryst'.
I live near Tryst and have eaten there dozens of times. This time I tried a salmon burger which was on the special menu, and it was outstanding! Fresh, well-seasoned, perfectly cooked, with a delicious light sauce on a nice toasted bun. Best salmon burger I have ever had. Fingers crossed that it will be added to the regular menu!
Fun night out with friends. Seated right away even when we were early for our reservation. Giving the choice of tables which was great. Cocktails order taken right way and lemon martinis where delicious. Ordered apps first, cheese platter and Bavarian pretzels. Pretzels and dip super fresh and yummy. Cheese platter was delicious but very very small. Only a few pieces of cheese not enough for four people to share.
Meals where excellent salmon and steak tips was cooked to pefection. Our only complain was the Caesar had lots of veggies like beats which was not specified in menu.
We did not have dessert but did have coffee and the coffee was also delicious.
Our server was excellent and very personable and patient with our slow ordering.
This is my second time visiting Tryst since I adopted a plant based lifestyle. Unfortunately, not much had improved since the last time I visited. There were few plant based options (no meat, no dairy) on the menu. I was relegated to selecting among side dishes or a kale salad. That was very disappointing. My husband enjoyed his steak tips well enough, but if you have a party with mixed dietary requirements you should look elsewhere.
We also had a very inexperienced waiter who had no idea what a vegan or plant based diet was and kept offering me the vegetarian (cheese included) options on the menu. To his credit he asked his vegan co-worker for her recommendations from the menu (to which she recommended the kale salad). He also forgot multiple items and never seemed to get the order quite right for dinner or dessert. All in all, a very medicocre dining experience.
We ventured out for a Valentine's Day dinner, which we normally never do. Our meal was superb from beginning to end. There were some new menu items that were very good. We go to Tryst often for brunch, but this dinner made us realize that it's a good dinner option too!
Tryst is our favorite place to dine in Arlington. the food is delicious and very consistent and the service is fabulous. And their ice cream is absolutely the best in Boston hands down.
I have been a fan of Tryst for a long time and a frequent diner when I worked nearby in Lexington. I invited visiting friends to meet me at Tryst for dinner, and we all enjoyed our meals.
Totally disappointing brunch
Online menu had vegetarian options we specifically chose going here for - menu is NOT the online one which was very frustrating. Fairly empty dining room and we were seated next to the only other table in that area rather than any of the other 10 empty tables not immediately adjacent to the occupied table??? Coffee was brought out in Demi tasse cups and was Luke warm - waiter said all the regular sized cups were dirty? It’s brunch and the restaurant isn’t even 1/2 full? Each cup held 2 mouthfuls so waiter came back 8 times to refill our coffee!
The quality of the food was fine but it was overpriced for what it was. I don’t see any reason to go back unfortunately.
The special cod dish with pork was excellent - an unusual combination but it was delicious, so glad I chose it!
Good food, nice menu. Good bar. I wish that they would get rid of the TVs in the dining room.
We find ourselves at Tryst regularly in the winter as it is within walking distance. The good bartender was on duty this time as our drinks came out quickly and spot on. The food was good too but the selection of old favorites was a bit limited. We were pleasantly surprised by the chocolate Swiss roll dessert.
Good for casual dining. Food was very good, service was excellent - hostess and waitress were pleasant and attentive. Atmosphere is ok - nothing out of this world, but it's a good go-to place in the neighborhood.
Tryst could be so much more. The space is excellent although awkwardly used. Although the restaurant was far from full upon our arrival, we were placed at a table in the back surrounded by the only other occupied tables in the area. At the same time there was plenty of open seating in the front dining area.
The food that we had, excluding the desert, was excellent but it felt like we had to search for the good items rather than have to narrow things down like is normally done at other restaurants.
Finally, the desert menu is lacking and what we did order we returned, the temperature wasn’t right and it tasted old.
Very very noisy. Limited menu. Tasty but not exceptional food. Good cocktails though.
Tryst is our favorite restaurant. The staff and the manager are very friendly and accommodating. The food is fresh —we appreciate the local ingredients . Sometimes we come for cocktails and appetizers, other times for for a meal. The cocktails are very generous and delicious.
We love the famous shrimp
taco, the piggy pops, and the salads and are delighted when there are specials—tuna tartare, lobster sliders, spring rolls. The entrees are also delicious, but we would appreciate a little more change in the menu.
All in all, it’s truly a neighborhood gem!
the service was very good, but the food was not served all together and the salmon was cold
