Tryst Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I dined with a friend who's been quite a few times and likes it a lot. She was very pleased with her meal (kale and brussell sprout salad). I had the tagliatelle bolognese and it was mediocre. We went early to the restaurant, so maybe the time impacted the atmosphere or lack of it. I would try it again because the location is good, but I wasn't blown away by anything. I also thought their wines were all a bit expensive.
Not quite as good as I remembered it being when last there three years ago.
The ambience is lacking - the place was practically empty though admittedly it was a Monday night - two big TV's above the bar are distracting, creating a sort of 'sports bar vibe' where the restaurant used to have a higher end kind of vibe.
Delicious, comforting, and inventing food. We sat in the back, which was pleasantly quiet due to fabric or upholstery or something. The cocktails were fun and seasonally-inspired. The "hot dates," blue-cheese stuffed, bacon wrapped dates, were SO good. Great burgers too.
Back at Tryst after not being there in years. I like Tryst's menu in general and all dishes we (3 of us) had were super tasty and appealing (the shrimp tacos-- excellent! kale salad, faroe island salmon, scallops, burger ) ( we all felt a few items were heavy on salt-- the salmon and scallops and fries... but not so much that it ruined them). The bar area is great and lively but the rest of the dining room lacks any real distinct ambiance-- at least to me As an Arlington neighborhood restaurant, however, it fits the bill- upscale food, but still casual, generous portions. We overordered! Service was largely attentive (but not super friendly) and we were indecisive so give the wait staff credit. One critique was that it took a few asks to get our drinks served but that was a minor blip. I wouldn't travel miles to head to Tryst but for the local area, it's a good solid option.
We went here as a last minute "date" with friends. Food was quite good. They had three hard ciders on the drink menu - that's a big plus! Our waiter was somewhat disengaged - maybe having an off night, who knows - he was polite, but not attentive. I'd definitely go back.
Recommended, definitely a place to check out if you're in or close to Arlington. Tryst has a great bar area that is very lively and friendly. There is an ample selection of small plates/bar bites and the selection of wine, beer and cocktails is pleasing. For larger meals, special celebrations, or more privacy, the dining room is very comfortable although not particularly atmospheric and can be a little bit loud. The food is upscale, comfort food, featuring high quality seasonal and/or locally sourced ingredients and in general the price to quality ratio is very good. This is a great neighborhood spot , perfect for a friendly gathering, family-oriented special occasion, or low key couples night out.
We had not been to Tryst in over a year (it's not in our town), and it came to mind. It was as it always has been: good food well and interestingly prepared and well served, a good variety of items on the menu, truly excellent service, and it doesn't break the bank. My husband and I each had a drink on their special menu; each was tasty and interesting without being weird. I especially like the variety of appetizers and had trouble choosing. My husband had the flatbread, and I chose the shrimp taco. He liked the bourbon tips he chose for his entree, and I had the rib eye steak, We shared the scrumptious profiteroles. We must remember not to wait so long before going back.
The duck special was cooked perfectly, medium rare. The flavors complemented the rest of the dish's artistic delights which included chanterelles. I was fortunate to get a front window seat to observe all the action from this busy place. Definitely a place to go for fine food and a happening ambiance.
The waiter was even more awesome than the food. Our party of 4 is very diverse and included a gluten free dinner. I'm still talking about the fried green tomatoes and collared greens . The scallops were seared to perfection. This is a great choice for us when we want to get out of the city. We will be back.
We were there on a weekday night - I've been there before at that time. I appreciate the relative quietness that allows real conversation. I also appreciated the opportunity to taste a bit of the wine that I was thinking of ordering since it was one I didn't know about and I'm fussy about wine. I will definitely return again!
Clearly a neighborhood gem. Wonderful starters. Both the golden beet salad and the antipasto plate were excellent -- clearly enough for dinner for two, but then you were have to miss the fabulous pasta. Tagliatelle with mushrooms and the bolognese were very much enjoyed, as was the salmon dish. Yes, I'll be back, again....and again. It's a lovely, relaxed evening out, without the fuss of Boston.
We went to Tryst for a weeknight dinner on a very rainy Monday night - the restaurant was nearly empty so it was very quiet. We didn't find any entrée dishes (larger plates) that we were interested in trying but there were lots of appealing appetizer (starters) and side dishes (extras) so we ordered a bunch of them. All were excellent with interesting and tasty combinations of flavors. Loved the food.
