Overpriced, bad lighting, not trendy, rude waitress chewy meat
I can't really add much to the glowing reviews that others have left. Suffice it to say that Trust's reputation is well deserved. We shared six small plates, all of which were excellent. My favorites, perhaps surprisingly, were the "small gems," which turned out to be the best Romaine based green salad I've had in many years, and the Chicken Liver Toast on which the paté was overlain with thinly sliced radishes; I could've made a meal of it. For dessert, we shared the "Neopolitan Cheesecake," which was very creative -- and very delicious -- it probably sent my blood sugar through the roof, but it was worth it.
If I have any minor disappointments, it was the wine list. We were celebrating our anniversary, and it's our custom to start with a split (375 ml) of a premium champagne. Unfortunately, Trust only had full bottles of two different labels, so we ordered a bottle of the lesser priced ($80) which was still quite good.
Trust is a wonderful restaurant, and a valuable asset to San Diego.
Great service and awesome food! Highly recommend. Recommend making a reservation since they are pretty busy.
exelete comida y el lugar muy agradable, buen ambiente
Great food, VERY slow pace. Will definitely be back but will need to order more timely or ask the waiter to check in more frequently
It's not often that you go to a restaurant where the food is impeccable and the service is even better. We were so very pleased with our experience. Our waitress was so sweet and attentive and so many of the dishes we tried were to die for. Definitely will be spreading the word about this incredible restaurant!
One of my favorite restaurants in San Diego. Food is amazing. Service is always great. Would totally recommend.
Mother’s Day late celebration.
A very good and enjoyable restaurant on border between Hillcrest and North Park. The food which is mainly smaller plates is excellent. Everything I have tried was just really good. The menu is quite varied with many original dishes.
Had the cauliflower with mint and raisins,.the wood grilled octopus, blue nose bass, lamb meatballs and braised oxtail raviolini last night, all were terrific.
It's a very modern place with outdoor seating option too as well as a great bar not to mention excellent service. Overall a great place in good location.
We had a reservation for 6 of us outside for Mothers Day and my birthday (double whammy day!) and it turned out to be a rather chilly night. When I called to let them know that my elderly Mom wasn't feeling the best, they found a way to move us to an inside table AND to an earlier spot. I'm sure this wasn't the easiest to figure out since Mothers Day is the busiest restaurant day of the year, but they found a way to do it. The food and wine was excellent. I highly recommend the Branzino. It is a 10+++++. We had a wonderful night and would go back anytime. I'm excited to try their sister restaurant called Fort Oak. I've heard it is fabulous as well.
Best restaurant in San Diego. Consistently. Mother's Day brunch was a feast from start (cinnamon roll) to finish (side of fruit that I took home). Their cauliflower is often imitated but never duplicated. Excellent service. Love this place!
Trust is the best restaurant in San Diego. Phenomenal food, phenomenal service, phenomenal atmosphere!
This was our first visit to Trust. We went with another couple and shared 4 "small plates." All of them were outstanding with the Zucchini and Shrimp/Andouille Sausage being fantastic. Excellent and friendly service. We went when the restaurant opened during the week and the noise level was fine (we could carry on a conversation without the need to raise our voices or yell). We will definitely be back to try some of the other enticing dishes.
Portion size is very small and the restaurant is pricey having said that the food is outstanding
I was disappointed with the food, the plates we ordered were good but not that memorable. I thought the prices were high for what I thought was just “okay” food.
This restaurant continues to shine in a sea of choices in and around San Diego. The food here never disappoints and the service is knowledgeable and efficient without being intrusive. All our dishes were thoughtfully prepared with flavors you will not soon forget, I have but one criticism of a dish while still delicious was the Baby Gem Salad, it was a bit overdone with what I believe was Mayonnaise. As for a standout offering I would suggest the Carrot Cake which was extraordinary, it is a new twist on a dish that is both light and flavorful and not too filling. It was the perfect way to end the meal without filling stuffed.
Consistently outstanding food and service. Always take out of town guests here!
A grade B for cocktails - Cadillac margaritas - no salt, no separate shot glass of grand mariner.
A grade A for the food, including the grilled bread.
A grade F for dessert, a sorbet riddled with ice crystals and “freezer burn”. The choices of desserts are all too rich for the type of food they serve.
Trust is my favorite spot when you're willing to spend a little extra for a great meal. Service is always awesome, food is delicious, and I'm never disappointed in spending more for a meal at Trust.
Happy hour is a great deal on drinks as well!
Amazing Dinner. Shared plates made it easy to try a variety of dishes.
This was our first time here for brunch...it was hard to choose what to order, everything looked and sounded SO good and creative. Not your typical brunch menu for sure. Loved it!
Food and service were great overall. They charge $$ for bread, which we didn’t know. Bread should be included when you’re paying $20+ for one small plate. We went for a special birthday celebration and the hostess mentioned it, but there was no acknowledgement by our server, which was a bit of a bummer as we were hoping to sing happy birthday to our friend.
I will definitely be back to Trust. This was my first time visit and everything was impeccable. The only two things on my wish list for this place are a dark-chocolate based dessert or biscotti with Vin Santo.
Very good food, however it seems the same (very good) base sauce is used in multiple dishes. We plan to return.
Way too noisy
First time at Trust Restaurant and we'll be back. Wonderful!
We had a group of women celebrating several birthdays, and primarily stuck with the small plates in the appetizer category, which were all outstanding. I very much want to go back to try the entrées. It did seem like the service was pretty slow in the beginning, but took early since we were just waiting for appetizers. We also had a party of seven and had brought our own wine and were told they had a limit on corkage to three bottles, which was a policy I had never seen in a restaurant. Several people have been on trips and brought wine they wanted the group to try, so that was a disappointment. And it seemed kind of silly. The food there is very expensive, particularly considering the gritty neighborhood you have to park in, so they are really limiting their potential guests with that sort of policy.
It was a 'different' menu for me, but it turned out the food was excellent and we mostly just had what the waiter suggested.
My sister and brother in law from Chicago were visiting and just had their 50th Wedding Anniversary.
The Food was Sooo Good! Check the Pics! Words cannot describe The Great Taste!
Brunch was great- get the sticky bun !
Good food, young crowd, but way too loud. Outside patio is good.
This was our first time and we loved Trust. The outdoor seating area is great. The sticky bun is a must have! Our service was perfect.
Honestly one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Our waiter, Caesar had the best recommendations from the menu and they were all amazing. The best service, thank you Caesar!
Trust was very good and the menu was unique. The menu was a bit difficult because it was hard to subtract things from selections because they were already made up. That was difficult for me because I have food restrictions. That said, the only thing that I personally could eat was the Gem Salad. I'm afraid that I left hungry. The three others in the group enjoyed their meals. The noise level was really high.
Loved this restaurant. Every dish was a thoughtful, layered explosion of flavor. We couldn't get enough. Had to ask the waiter for bread so we could sop up every last drop of the sauces from each dish. Chef is not afraid of bringing a little heat to the food. Doesn't blow your head off, but makes each dish more alive and memorable. Will definitely recommend and return!
Not good food, way too loud! Have to yell across the table to have a conversation. Food was just ok. Only good thing I enjoyed was the salad. I would not go back or recommend.
Food and cocktails were quite good, wish we hadn’t listened to our waiter for some of his suggestions. We, unfortunately, waited for 30 minutes before our drink order was taken, and it was almost 45 minutes when we received our first cocktail from when we first sat down. There was no apology, no attempt to even recognize that there was an issue. Not a great way to start our evening. All of the other servers seemed very attentive to their tables, and another waiter asked us twice if our waiter had been to see us yet, since he saw the menus on our table for 30 minutes. He kindly said he would find our waiter. It’s amazing how an inattentive waiter can affect the whole dining experience. We had just eaten at Fort Oak, had a fabulous waiter who made great recommendations, fabulous food, and this is what brought us to Trust.
The cauliflower was our favorite dish, (one our waiter tried to steer us away from): it was excellent. Burrata very good, octopus a little tough but great flavors. Pork Sugo good, just less interesting than the other dishes, one highly recommended by our waiter. Ah well. We know that everyone has their off nights, wait staff should just know to apologize, and try to make it right. We will give Trust another try sometime, and we just hope we have better service.
