Great brunch. Interesting menu items. Had a savory crepe it was delicious, husband had a savory benedict waffle that he enjoyed. They have gluten free options too.
Arrived to be told that the Christmas Buffet that we signed up for was not happening. We did not receive a phone call or anything. Did not stay.
The service was great, and the food was better than average hotel food, but priced 4 times as much would be fair even taking into consideration quality. The ambiance was lousy: loud, screaming conversations - hotel conference room style set up.
If I'd have to make a suggestion - if you're on the company dime and are billing the meal to your room, you'll be thrilled. In every other scenario - If you are paying out of pocket in a city like Portland - there are a dozen better options which would cost you far far less.
The biggest thing to note, is that is wasn't obvious from the description that Truss is a restaurant inside the Marriott hotel. We went for Mother's Day brunch with 3 tween/teen kids. It's nothing fancy, and people staying at the hotel in various very casual clothes came there for a special occasion brunch.
Still, the kids found lots to eat and enjoyed the variety. That made the parents happy. The food was good, but not spectacular. The mimosas were very good, though, which also made the parents happy. The service was above average, and about what you'd expect for a hotel restaurant.
It was also nice to have the hotel valet parking available, which was validated in the restaurant.
Was surprisingly able to conduct a business meeting even after a big family group was seated next to us. The service was first class.
Waiter suggested the Scallop special for my entree & wasn't kidding that it was delicious, served with whipped potatoes, caramelized cauliflower, and a harissa oil. Also had local oysters as an appetizer which were delightful.
We were dissappointed in the change in menu which limited the vegetarian options. The server was extremely helpful and made the experience. The trout was excellent. The bread served with the salad was stale - and not up to par with Portland breads. Very close to the Keller and a good option for a quick meal but little ambiance- what happened to the view of the river?
Great ambiance and wonderful overall experience. Very courteous service, and quality food. The only negative was the somewhat limited menu, but we all found choices we were happy with.
as a portland native, this restaurant, while attractive with good food and service would not draw me back unless i needed a good restaurant close to the Keller Auditorium. Given all the charming and unique restaurants in town, this one suffers from being inside a hotel..altho the dining room was recently remodeled, you must pass through a lobby to get there and our seats had a view of rather raucous groups celebrating in an adjacent "private" party room..
Just OK. I brought my two year old so they put us at a table in a wired corner away from other diners. It felt like we were being punished. Our waitress was adorable and very efficient so that made up for the table but the food was mediocre at best. I don't need to go back.
Superior in-hotel restaurant in my experience.
I had the $25 "June special", consisting of a large bowl of corn chowder, a good-sized portion of asparagus risotto, and a "truss sundae". The chowder was delicious, with a mildly smoky taste and robust flavor and smooth but not too smooth texture. The risotto was tasty, but I did not taste much of the asparagus that gave it its name, because of the bacon that was infused into it. It was good, but not what I was expecting. The sundae was a bit of a surprise - it was a single scoop of vanilla ice cream on a brownie bed, topped with whip cream, rainbow sprinkles, and Pop Rocks, served in a bale glass jar. Yes I know you stopped at Pop Rocks, but it actually seemed to work, giving the first couple of bites a bit of "zing".
Service was pretty good and food was average.
I had a business meeting at Truss with four other participants. The location in the Downtown Marriott Waterfront was perfect. It was not on a busy floor, but in a location that was ideal. The entire staff was lovely. The Ambience was perfect except for the young toddler screaming, but that happens. The service was very timely and everything, from entrees to dessert, was was delicious. I would certainly recommend Truss to anyone.
I was disappointed in Truss. There is construction going on adding noise as well as the loud noise from the bar below. The waiters had to come and take our order twice and the wine I ordered at first was not available. The food was average. My bibb salad that was supposed to have blue cheese had no cheese. My dining partners asked for no dairy but I did not. I would not eat here again.
First off, let me say that our group of four enjoyed our food. Unfortunately, the lights were operating room bright and detracted from the whole evening. Definitely not the ambiance of a destination trendy restaurant, but of a simple hotel breakfast spot.
Chicken & Waffles is amazing...!
