Truluck's Seafood, Steak and Crab House - La Jolla Ratings and Reviews
Live entertainment (Archie Thompson) was fantastic - he sang, played piano, and also played saxophone! But, it wasn't too loud or intrusive on our dinner...perfect in the background. Although we dined inside, there were tables with fire pits and a lovely atmosphere outside as well.
All-you-can-eat Florida crab was AMAZING, but it was cold and we were expecting it to be served warm/hot. So be forewarned. Still, the taste and quality and preparation were fantastic, and after a few bites, my hubby didn't mind it being cold at all!
Calamari appetizer and lobster bisque were delicious! Filet mignon (7 oz) was wonderful, as were the parmesan mashed potatoes. Corn chowder was scrumptious as well.
Very classy with linens and wine glasses, a selection of things to put in your water (cucumber, orange, lime, lemon, etc.) and an amazing dessert selection. We got carrot cake and chocolate cake and the portions were so huge, we were still eating them (take home) the next day. They were very rich, but I have to say that's the best carrot cake we've ever had!
Service was also impeccable. Waiter (Stuart) was very personable and attentive but not on top of us during the meal. We didn't have to ask for additional crab...when he saw my husband was getting toward the end of one plate, he'd bring and offer another.
Overall, I would recommend for any special occasion where you want to get dressed up and enjoy a romantic evening or a business function. (Sorry my photos aren't better!)
Wonderful restaurant, great ambiance, awesome food. Stone crabs were outstanding. The entire organization is top notch. Two weeks prior I got a call letting us know they were out of stone crabs on a particular Monday due to inclimate weather in Florida and I was extremely appreciative of the fact that they called to let me know so that we could reschedule. Now that's superior customer service !!
I usually dine at Truluck's 3-4 times a year when ever I come to town for business or pleasure.
Our server Chic / Charles was excellent. I had taken my 87 year old mother out, and there was an issue where the kitchen failed to cook her steak as ordered. She wasn't pleased, Chic agreed with her, and quickly addressed the situation. Thank you
Truluck's Seafood Steak & Crab House rarely disappoints. This is the fourth location we've dined at and so far has never been a disappointment. Good food, well prepared. Well stocked bar and of course always a great 'Happy Hour' altho I did notice at La Jolla location the Happy Hour food menu didn't have a lot of choices. That being said, food, service, live entertainment, cocktails were excellent. Certainly will return when in the area.
I had heard about this restaurant many times and was excited to celebrate a family birthday there. We had lovely time, it made a strong impression with our party.
From the greeting by to host and receiving the bill, the service was that of true hospitality. We were not only welcomed to be there but our server nailed it.
We had the crab claws, scallops, sea bass and stuffed lobster. The family from Rhode Island were particularly dazzled.
I highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion or a nice lunch or dinner. The food and the hospitality stand out.
The only con: dining room was a bit chilly, a sweater or sport coat may be a good accompaniment.
See my yelp review explains my disappointment
Low rating due to service - I blame this On Management - spending $540.00 and poor Sevice is unacceptable with a restaurant of this caliber .
It very well could have been avoided . Having a waiter serve a party of 18 and poor service to a table of 4 is a problem ! Shame on Trulucks !
My wife and I have heard good things about the various Trulucks restaurants around the country. We finally decided to give the one in our backyard a try. We were not disappointed. The food is exceptional. We are seafood buffs and Trulucks is obviously a place to go for that cuisine. The cocktails were also delicious. Our waiter was also noteworthy in his friendliness and helpfulness without being overbearing. The ambiance of the restaurant is also noteworthy in a positive way with quality live music to boot. We will be going back!
Had a great meal as we always do at Truluck’a when our brother in law was in town for a quick visit. Was able to get last minute reservations the day before and was able to change to an earlier time when he arrived earlier than expected. Loved the live music, both singers were very talented. Service great as well.
My overall experience at Trulucks was ok. Kind of disappointed with our server as well as my fiancé. There was just a lot of excessive compliments that he was saying to my fiancé and unnecessary touching which made her uncomfortable as well as myself, and sort of creeped out.
The table was in a premier spot in the restaurant and was decorated nicely for my wife's birthday celebration. There was a piano player and the volume was perfect; loud enough to hear, but not overpowering. The service was impeccable, as always. When we asked for a suggestion on a wine selection, the waiter went to the bar and brought back 2 samples of Chardonnay for us to try. The stone crab claws were an excellent appetizer (the mustard sauce is addictive!) and the stuffed lobster tail that my wife had was incredible. They even brought a complimentary dessert for her! If I had one complaint, it would be the quality of the yellowtail that I had for my entree. It wasn't terrible, but it was a bit more 'fishy' than I would have expected from a prime seafood house.
