Truluck's Seafood, Steak and Crab House - La Jolla Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I have heard good things about the various Trulucks restaurants around the country. We finally decided to give the one in our backyard a try. We were not disappointed. The food is exceptional. We are seafood buffs and Trulucks is obviously a place to go for that cuisine. The cocktails were also delicious. Our waiter was also noteworthy in his friendliness and helpfulness without being overbearing. The ambiance of the restaurant is also noteworthy in a positive way with quality live music to boot. We will be going back!
Had a great meal as we always do at Truluck’a when our brother in law was in town for a quick visit. Was able to get last minute reservations the day before and was able to change to an earlier time when he arrived earlier than expected. Loved the live music, both singers were very talented. Service great as well.
My overall experience at Trulucks was ok. Kind of disappointed with our server as well as my fiancé. There was just a lot of excessive compliments that he was saying to my fiancé and unnecessary touching which made her uncomfortable as well as myself, and sort of creeped out.
The table was in a premier spot in the restaurant and was decorated nicely for my wife's birthday celebration. There was a piano player and the volume was perfect; loud enough to hear, but not overpowering. The service was impeccable, as always. When we asked for a suggestion on a wine selection, the waiter went to the bar and brought back 2 samples of Chardonnay for us to try. The stone crab claws were an excellent appetizer (the mustard sauce is addictive!) and the stuffed lobster tail that my wife had was incredible. They even brought a complimentary dessert for her! If I had one complaint, it would be the quality of the yellowtail that I had for my entree. It wasn't terrible, but it was a bit more 'fishy' than I would have expected from a prime seafood house.
Trulucks is one of the best restaurants in San Diego. The food options are always creative, they are always open to making modifications if needed and the food has always been perfect. The staff is also incredible, they are friendly, helpful and laid back. They allow you to sit back, relax, and enjoy the evening. The wine list is extensive, and they also have a fair amount of beer options. We truly love going here for dinner with friends and family.
Service and food could have been better for the price.
They called the day after and I expressed my displeasure, the gal that called was not trained for that response. I would have expected, “please come back, we will ....., but nothing”. We all make mistakes, the crime is not doing something to fix the mistake. There are quite a few good steak houses in San Diego, I would suggest trying another.
Had Crab cake appetizer that was pretty good. Heavily dressed could have had less dressing on. Had the tuna for dinner.
The the star of the evening was the amazing carrot cake. Best $11 ever spent. The slice was so big you can share for two three people. We brought at least half of it home
Started off a little rocky with the service with our table not being ready and then the server coming over to talk to us through the menu and then abruptly walked off. We were starving and wanted to put in some apps so I had to hail someone over who happily put them them in. After that all was smooth sailing and the food was mind blowing good! They even brought out a really special birthday desert that was amazing! One of my new fave places!
This was our second time dining at Truluck's. I don't know how they did it, but our second visit was even more amazing than the first time. This is by far the most elegant, romantic and satisfying dining experience I've had from any upscale restaurant! We were treated like we were the only patrons in the restaurant the whole evening, and the place was full. Amazing cocktails and food! It was by far the highlight of a great and busy anniversary weekend. We plan to go back more often for Happy hour and the live music. I almost forgot. The following day I received a call from one of the managers, asking about or dining experience. How classy is that? This place is the best!!!!
Uh maze ing. Food was fantastic! I had the steak (delish). My husband had the lobster with a side of king crab legs. Best he’s ever had. Wine was great. Dessert was delish. We had the chocolate “bag”. Really good.
The service was impeccable. PJ is probably the best waiter we’ve ever had in our lives. I can’t say enough about him.
Will definitely return!!
Dinner was excellent. Our waiter, PJ, was very engaging and spent time discussing the menu and options for special request. This is my second time to this location and as before was not disappointed. I plan on returning for Happy Hour with friends. I totally recommend this restaurant - excellent food and desserts!!
Matt was an amazing server. Our first time at Truluck’s. I look forward to returning for our 10th anniversary. Not sure if I can wait that long. Sea Bass paired with a Pino Noir was delicious. Jodi had the 7oz sirloin cooked perfect.
An excellent fine dinning experience.
As usual Trulucks doesn’t disappoint! We usually start with happy hour at the bar and then have dinner. Our server, Justin, was very friendly and attentive. The food-5 Star! Thank you or helping us celebrate our son’s 12th birthday. The twin lobster tails were amazing!!!! Thank you again.
This may have been the best restaurant I’ve ever eaten at. The seafood sampler appetizer and steaks were all delicious and prepared perfectly, the service was amazing and felt very personal. This is the restaurant experience everybody wants. If I’m ever back in San Diego, I will eat here again.
High-end restaurant with exceptional food and staff. They try very hard to make sure that you're more than happy with your dining experience. Expensive, but still a great value because of their effort and top-notch food. One of our new San Diego go-to spots.
Food was very good. I had king crab. It was cut to break apart easily, but still quite messy to have to use your hands to break apart. Got quite greasy fingers, which I would not want to deal with again in a nice restaurant. Husband had ribeye. He said it was good, but not as good as a steakhouse. We also felt a little rushed. We had appetizer of seafood, which was delicious, then our entree and dessert. We were done in an hour and 15 min. Too fast for a very expensive dinner.
