Truluck's Seafood, Steak and Crab House - La Jolla Ratings and Reviews
Best Fine Dining in San Diego.
Truluck's has truly exceptional seafood and steaks, and a wine list to match. Whether the stone crab is your appetizer or on one of the prime steaks, it's fantastic. The wait staff was attentive, and our server, Brian, was clairvoyant in making the evening outstanding for us.
I tried to change my open table Rez from four to six people and it never confirmed so I called the restaurant and they did it we had to change the time. I specifically asked to make sure it was still open tablethey said yes and today I get email from open table that I didn’t show up
We had PJ as a waiter and spent over $500
Bad open table communication
This is a regular special occasion spot. As usual the service and ambiance was impeccable. The menu can use some updating, since we have tried almost everything on it. The lounge singer was an unneeded distraction. Soft background music would have been preferred. Be prepared to spend serious cash, since the food and drinks are a little pricey.
We had a very poor experience-and will not be returning. This was a client dinner and it was-shockingly bad and I dine out frequently. Felt the waiter was mediocre and someone failed to put our order in. We-waited for over an hour with picked over appetizers until someone finally told us they messed up and did not put our order in. We then had to wait another 30 minutes minimum to get our dinner which it was now 9pm and our reservation was at 530pm. I would have-walked out if it were not for having clients with me. Upon returning from the restroommy client was appalled at the state of the restroom which the manager was aware that some unruly and unsupervised children had destroyed. Well the restaurant made no attempt to remedy it until we complained. They removed the dinner expense but kept the other $200 on the bill. We were not looking for a comped dinner but rather a good dining experience. This it was not!
We happened upon this place in search for a restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. It far exceeded our expectations in every way. Truluck runs there reservations through opentable. We got a time, date ,and were able to state if there were any special occasions online. Upon arrival they greeted us and immediately congratulated us on our anniversary. We were seated at a beautiful booth with rose petals strewn across the table. Our waiter Derek was amazing ( there were times when our drinks were refilled without us even realizing ) and by far the best waiter I have ever had. The food was amazing they explained what everything on the menu was of whenever we had any questions. All in all it was amazing and by far the best dining experience I have ever had.
Absolutely terrific! We fought our way out of an under prepared Del Mar after the Classic and arrived not in the best frame of mind. That changed immediately when we checked in with a gentleman in a suit and the perfect demeanor who seated us quickly. Derrick was the consummate professional waiter who guided us through the evening and found a great wine well below what I told him our limit was. The desserts are made on premises (a rarity) and were over the top excellent. A great restaurant!
I'm tired of getting Luke warm food I asked Chick our server please I have eaten here a lot over last six months but am tired of food not hot. He said I guarantee it will be appetizers not hot mashed potatoes again sent back time replacement came dinner over. Management should try Eddie Vs they may learn something , won't be going back.
We were greeted warmly and courteously. The bar service was quick and the happy hour cocktails were delicious - no watering down here. When we walked to our table it was decorated to show it was a special occasion. That was truly appreciated and the baked Alaska dessert was amazing to say the least. The service was spot on without being overbearing.
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to celebrate over a good meal of seafood.
What was especially nice and noted is the call I received the day after checking to be sure we had a good time.
We have been many times to the Truluck's in Dallas but this is the first time we had gone to the La Jolla restaurant. We LOVE stone crab claws and could not resist the temptation to indulge ourselves in the Monday night, all you can eat, special. It was outstanding! Sweet crab claws that were well cracked and easy to pry the meat out of. The service was especially good - one of our party has a shellfish allergy and the staff went out of their way to make sure there was no contamination. The service was impeccable and attentive without being cloying. It made for an outstanding evening which we thoroughly enjoyed. We were pleasantly surprised by the follow-up phone call that was made to make sure that we had a great evening. We will definitely be back!
I told a friend that I have had a great meal at Trulocks a couple of times and we should go. He agreed, so I set up a diner reservation. We were running late called and they were fine with our delay. I told them of my friend's birthday and set us at special elevated table which was great for dining. The waiter was excellent informed us of the special whole fish which we both partook of, whole flounder. It was delicious option. We started with stone crab claws, fresh and delicious. We each had a salad, which we both loved. The flounder was amazing, opted for Crab Fried rice, a bit extra but well worth it. We added friend Brussel Sprouts another great option. Neither of is much of drinker, I had a Stella my friend water so no opinion on the wine or specialty drinks. Our water was always refilled, loved the multiple options of fruit slices for our water. Our waiter and kitchen staff kept the pace of the meal just about perfect. The meal finished with a lovely Birthday dessert platter for my friend which heartily helped him with.
It was a great birthday for my friend.
We were celebrating a couple of birthdays and had a great time. The menu is one of the best for quality seafood. The overall experience was great but unfortunately the bar service was less than spectacular. I think it was just a bit of miscommunication within the staff. The food choices were great and the cocktails were great as well.
Enjoyed the happy hour menu offered between 4:30 and 7:00 pm with half-price wine and appetizers as well as live music. Really enjoyed the escargot. Hostess was flexible with our 6:45 pm dinner reservations since we arrived at 6:15 pm. Open Table reservation request for intimate table since we were celebrating our 36th wedding anniversary. Restaurant went above and beyond by not only seating us at an out-of-the-way table, but table was decorated with rose petals. Since we were somewhat full from the appetizers we ordered prior, we simply ordered two sea bass entrees served on beds of crab fried rice. The sea bass was by far the best we had ever tasted — tender, buttery, cooked to perfection!!! And, the crab fried rice was excellent!!! At the end of our meal, our server surprised us with a baked Alaskan dessert which our server lit on fire momentarily to char the meringue. Absolutely delicious, especially with the addition of 151 Rum drizzled over it. To add even a nicer touch, I received a voicemail on my phone the next day again wishing us a happy anniversary and thanking us for our business by an Truluck employee.
This is a tradition that in special ocassions nothing can compare to Trulucks! The service is amazing, very kind since your entrance. Seafood dishes are our favorite, deliciously and promptly prepared. I would just adjust a tiny bit the volume of live music, but the singer and selection of songs is just amazing!
Truluck's is absolutely our favorite restaurant. We use it for special occasions and just plain old "date night" which is interesting since we are in our 70s. We always ask for PJ as our waiter. Few waiters in San Diego are as professional. He remembers us, keeps track of what we eat right up to the little things like how many stone crabs we can eat. His wine recommendations have led us to several wines that we now order in quantity for home consumption. When a restaurant can do that they are hitting on all cylinders. Need less to say, the food is wonderful. We may not be experts but we can tell if a place blows the doors off when compared to the rest of the city. You can easily pay more and get less.
Stone crab claws are back!!! Monday night is all you can eat stone crab claws which are amazing at Trulucks! As always the meal was awesome, great wine and accompaniments. Our favorite seafood restaurant in all of San Diego and our waiter, Sam, took great care of us.
